The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
I picked up a new 24' all aluminum enclosed trailer today, I'm going to make it awesome. This may not be the best place to discuss the build, is anyone interested to see what I'm going to do to it?
My wife's TBSS pulled it like a diesel! It's super light, weighing in at 2850 unloaded with a GVW of 10800! http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...8-03091125.jpg |
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Definitely want to see the evolution. Congrats!

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Heck yea we wana see what you're gonna do. I'd like an enclosed for track day's with the bikes
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Wow, that's a nice one. It is really nice being able to lock up all your stuff in an enclosed trailer. So is this one going to get a disco ball and kegerator? :D

Definitely interested! Subscribed!

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Damn Mark just got the pimp set up! That fucker is big enough for a golf cart instead of a pit bike! Don't want you starting your own team 8 finger racing :spin: just want to see 8.xx ET!
Are you leaving the trailer white or getting graphics to match the motor home! |
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
I went with the ‘24 so I had options down the road with pit vehicles, yes a golf cart would be awesome! No way will I be 8 fingered racing either.
The plan is to finish the floors and walls. Add a permanent tool box and aluminum side cabinets. I want this level completed before PG2. Then I will add electrical and lighting down the road. When I was shopping for trailers the finishing components were huge adders to the overall cost. My trailer was just under $9K. The adder for finished floors, walls, electrical and front only cabinets brought the total to $15K! I think I can accomplish the look and function for about 1500 dollars. I already picked up wall and floor materials and a 41” tool box from Menards this weekend. Well here is a before picture: http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...8-03121925.jpg We are working on the flooring first. It’s ¾ inch wood. We started by sealing up the screw heads with epoxy. Then sanded them flat. The plan is to have it all glossy and finished looking by the end of the week. I’m using the Rustoleum floor epoxy concrete kits. I had an extra epoxy concrete floor paint kit that I used as a base coat. Other people have tried it and it holds up awesome on wood floors too. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...804_114905.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...804_145022.jpg |

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Sweet trailer! That should be a killer setup and you can camp in it too with some planning.
I would be scared of pulling that thing with the TB though. I had a trailer start swaying on me once and it scared the shit out of me. It started swaying coming down a hill and into a corner. The only way to stop it is to accelerate, so I did and at the worst point it was pulling the back of the truck 2 feet side to side. Thank god there was a hill on the other side and once I hit that it pulled the trailer back enough to straighten it out. Never again will I pull with a marginal vehicle. With the tools and car in there it will drastically outweigh the TB. The short wheelbase is the biggest issue. My instance was in a V8 explorer, so same sized vehicle and the whole thing weighed less than your setup. |
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
I am sure he will use his rv to pull the trailer.
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Jet, good warning. I saw black marks on the freeway on 35e south of forest lake that were more than likely due to a trailers lack of stability, it's no joke. It looked like it would have been a nasty ride/ accident. The only reason I used the tb was to go pick it up. The rv will be the full time puller!

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Will there be a trophy shelf in there, or do we have to build you one at the next cookout?!
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Gawt Dayum.

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
The trailer is as much as people spend on dsm's haha.
Looks sweet and will be way nicer to have that than your previous trailer! Good luck with the build! |

Little update: I put one more coat of epoxy paint on it and the little flake stuff. Next is the clear and the floor work is done! http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...8-05180557.jpg |
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Looks good with the flake in there! Hopefully I can make it to PG2 and watch you make that 8 second pass!
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
That's going to be quite the setup! Looks great!
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Beautious! I love that you are finishing it yourself--definitely the way to go.

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Well the storm hit my house with some serious force. My wife’s TBSS, my Evo (The silver SE) & RV took some damage. The most serious is the uninsured trailer, the passenger side is almost as bad as the roof.... Not a good day.

|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
f*** that.
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Bad day indeed, really sucks.
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Should have automatic coverage since you had a trailer before. But that depends on who it was insured through.
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Ouch is right :( how bad are tbss and evo?
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Since you just got it you normally have 7 days to get it on your insurance. Check it out! That seriously sucks man, sorry to hear it!

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
So what are your options? Is it even repairable? Or just kinda stuck with it as it is now? Man what a shit situation.
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Ugh that sucks! I'm surprised the Evo only got $5400 worth of damage!
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Fuck, gorgeous inside though.
|
Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Put the walls up this weekend and installed the tool chest. It turned out awesome. I'm almost ready for the maiden voyage!

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Nice and clean! Any idea if that hail damage can be removed at a reasonable cost, at least on one side? Who cares about the roof haha.

Re: The DSM/Evo Trailer Build...WTF
Hey Mark, just spoke with my mother in law who is a commercial catastrophe adjuster for Farmers. She has a lot of experience dealing with residential claims and said there's a good possibility the damage to the trailer may be covered under your homeowners insurance. If it was parked in your driveway and was purchased in the past 30 days (which you obviously did), a non motorized vehicle aka your trailer could be covered. Definitely worth talking to your agent if you haven't already. Who is your homeowners insurance provider?
