New guy here - no DSM though...

Hey fellas,

Not sure what I'm doing here yet, but Knoxville's been trying to recruit me for awhile so here I am. Name's John. My toy's not a DSM, but a C5 Z06. I know I know. A ton of my friends have or had an EVO so I'm fairly familiar with them, and I know a few others on here from meets/other forums/college, etc.

Enough about me, you don't care.

Let's see...about the car. It's an '02 C5Z with a few things done to it. Nothing too crazy but a plenty fun all-around car.

What I've done:
- Cammed
- Full exhaust
- E85 - 422whp/405wtq.
- Lowered a bit
- Tint
- CCW SP500 - 18x10/19x11.5
- Corbeau A4 seats
- Mantic ER2 clutch
- C6Z shifter
- Few things I probably forgot...

I still have to throw on a new ported intake mani/tb, retune, get a new lip kit painted/installed and throw on some T1 sway bars.

So yeah, here she is and glad to be here!

First off, here's the dyno vid:

Nice looking Z06, welcome!
Did Carl street tune it or on MAP's dyno in the pic?

Yeah, Carl street tuned it. I just dyno'd at MAP. I was wondering how you knew he tuned it in the first place, but I'm guessing my sig gave it away?

Yea, your sig. He tuned my old vette on e85 too.

Very sharp! C5s look so much better with the door bump strip removed. I was pretty set on getting a c5z about 2 years ago, but i bought a bike and a benz instead.

Anyway, cool car!

Thanks! Yeah they were off before I bought the car otherwise they would've been stripped the second I got it home. Nice choices - toys are good haha.

Welcome, and nice Vette. Always had a soft spot for those cars, definitely sounds like a fun setup you got.

Thanks! Yeah, a C5Z has been my 'realistic' dream car since market prices really came down a few years ago. It's pretty tough to beat for value/dollar - 405hp, cheap insurance, 30+mpg on the highway, proven and pretty reliable, great handling and it's fairly reasonable to mod/maintain. Interior's nothing to write home about but HUD is nice and I can read and clear DTC codes from the dash.

Since everyone likes video, here's one of the car when I just got it back from the cam install. Just a quick idle/rev vid but people were bugging me for one when I got it back:

Skip to about 50 seconds in....

Thanks, Dave. I'm going to probably in a week or so. Looking like I should be able to make it.

Very nice car. Hopefully I find one this spring. How does this compare to the new z06?

Welcome to forum!

Thank you. I'm still not big on the C6 styling yet (yes, even the Z). It's starting to grow on me but that could be because the C7 looks like poop.

Dooo eeeet! Mine was $22k when I bought it 3 years ago with 28k miles on it. Prices are in the valley but seem to be holding around there these days. Definitely deals to be had out there.

Well, in what categories? I probably can't compare any better than what's listed on a spec sheet (never driven any C6). The C6Z is just a whole different animal though - massive brakes, aluminum frame, 325mm rear wheels STOCK, dry sump, 427 vs. 346, better interior (though I'd argue that one), plenty more capable power and handling, and the list goes on.

How does my car compare? In a straight line I'd really like to find out. I'm guessing it'd be VERY close. I should have the edge on the top end and I am a little lighter but probably nothing to give an advantage. I'd sure like to find out though...

Re: New guy here - no DSM though...

I was thinking straight line race and in the corners. I was thinking mainly a drag race as your pretty close with the z06 in power numbers. I really want a z06 but they hard to find a decent one that's close by.
You planning on doing anymore power mods?

Ehh, I'd like to get into a house and more financially ready before I jump into that kind of debt again. Ideally, I would wait until I could either put down a huge chunk, or buy one outright. Maybe once the C7 is out for a year or two they will drop into the teens. I fell in love ever since riding in a few friends Vette's.

Yeah they're pretty tough to find locally, especially at reasonable prices. Seems like everyone's asking a good $8-10k more than national listings. Mine was local, but I found it on the national forum so he knew what the real market value was.

As for power, I still have a ported intake mani/throttle body to throw on and that should hopefully put me at 440whp/420wtq. My next step would be ported heads but I'm not in much rush to get that done. I still want to get coilovers and start working on other areas of the car - it's getting close though.

Yeah I totally hear you. I got mine right after buying a house and wouldn't have done it any other way. Yeah hopefully the market comes down a bit after the C7 release. I'll be keeping an eye on that for sure.
