MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
PG2013 Part1 will be here before we know it. Pre-Registration will be up shortly, but I wanted to get some feedback/thoughts/ideas/questions first so I can improve the Registration site with any missing info.
Here is what PG2013 Part1 will all have to offer: Saturday: Full day of HPDE (Lapping Day). 1 Hour,40 minutes of track time. Non-timed, open lapping for several 20 minute sessions throughout the day. You will be on track with several other cars and can ONLY pass in the designated passing zones. COST: $160 Don’t want a full day, sign up for the 2-Session Special: 2-Session Saturday Special (40 minutes of track time) - Simply 2 sessions of HPDE(Open lapping) for those not wanting the full amount of track time. COST: $80 Sunday: HPDE 9am-1pm (Lapping Day) -1 Hour of track time Non-timed, open lapping for several 20 minute sessions throughout the day. You will be on track with several other cars and can ONLY pass in the designated passing zones. COST: $125 Standing Start Shootout Competition - 2pm - 6pm You are at the starting line at a standstill, the starter starts the countdown, your heart and launch control are both bouncing of the limiter. GO! You have one lap and an open track all to yourself, no traffic, nothing holding you back except your own driving skills. You will be given several chances to achieve your fastest lap, with only a few minutes between each lap so cold tires won’t be an issue. This event will take place on Sunday afternoon only. COST: $50 ------------------ And back again for 2013 will be the TTS (Triple Track Shootout) This is a combination of Drag Racing, Parking lot AutoX, and Road Course. Prove that you have the skill and car that can do it all. A combined score from all three events will determine the winner of each class (Street or Unlimited class). DRAG- Spend Saturday morning trying to get your best quarter mile time. Each driver will be given 3 drag passes. AUTOX- AutoX is a timed competition where the driver will navigate through a course designated by traffic cones. Each driver will race against the clock (not wheel-to-wheel) for the quickest time. This requires quick thinking and fast action driving. Essentially it's a miniature road course outlined with cones. This takes place Saturday at 3pm on the AutoX Course. ROAD COURSE- This is the real deal, high speed, road course driving. Similar to the Auto-X, this is a race against the clock (not wheel-to-wheel). You will be given one 20minute practice session to learn the track along with two attempts at the Standing-Start Shootout. There will be a mandatory drivers meeting before you are allowed on track. 2 Classes- Street: Street Tire Class (140+ treadwear DOT tires only) Car must have headlight/taillights, and interior (OEM Dash, carpet, 2-front seats, and heater) aka a real street car. Unlimited: Must be a production based car. Unlimited modifications, any tire. COST OF TTS: $180 ------------------------------------------------ One questions I know I'll be asked: Q: Why no flying timed laps (Time Attack Style) like last year? A: The first reason we decided to not do this is for safety. This event brings in mostly rookie-beginner drivers (not that it’s a bad thing). The second reason is cost. Most don’t have an AMD transponder so we'd have to rent them out. at $70-80 rental fee's plus the track cost to do timing would add a significant amount for only a few people that would want times. Our Solution is the Standing Start Shootout. It’s MUCH safer as there is no traffic to deal with during your timed runs. ----------------------------------------------- Other questions, comments, concerns. Please let me know. |

Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
NICE! I'm looking forward to the TTS again!
I really like the format of the standing start for the time attack - I think having the track to one's self for that (even just 2 laps) is much preferred to worrying about slower (and faster) cars when setting a time. I guess my only gripe would be that the Time Attack would overlap the Drag shootout on Sunday. I really want to defend my SA/U title :) |
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
I am looking forward to this again as well, and the possible rallyx :)

Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
Decisions, decisions... I really want to do a full day of HPDE on Saturday and the Standing Start competition, wish they were on the same day. Definitely want to beat my prior time in the vette from two years ago.
|
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
There is HPDE on Sunday, just has to end earlier for the competition. The track is wider now, so it will be hard to compare exactly to your old car.
|
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
Yea, I wanted to do a full day, but three sessions plus 3-5 timed laps on Sunday might be alright. I guess that would free up my time to do autox on Saturday as well.
That's cool about the track being wider, I'm still just hoping for a better time haha. I don't think it should be a problem as the power to weight ratio will be about the same, plus the star specs are quite a bit better than the Invos on the last car. I think this car will require more skill to drive though. |

Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
I kind of want to enter the TTS now, I haven't done drag racing in forever and I sort of want to see what the car does just for fun. Maybe an extra two sessions Saturday for good measure.

Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
^I bet the car flies!!!
Hmmm, so I could do auto-x 2 days and something else. But what? Any recommendations for a noob with a stock street car that I don't want to damage in any way. |

Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
Andrew, sign up for the TTS, it's a really good way to benchmark against other cars. I did it last year and it was a hoot. I'll be signing up again this year in just a bit and it would be fun to see more 'Style members out there!
|
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
Registered for TTS and confirmed. Time to commit guys! Andrew and Aaron sign up for TTS, it will be a hoot!

Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
Looks like my car is stuck in unlimited class because no heater, I might as well bring the A048's.
Edit: I will talk to Andy, maybe I can still get into street class, it looks like there were no real participants in unlimited last year. |
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
We just don't want to see a full out race car try to compete in the "Street" class.
We need to full up this event! Sign up and your wildest dreams may come true.... |
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
Just ordered my new rims and tires today, I'll have to look at what events to sign up for when I get back. Probably road course both days. I gotta try and remember how to turn the steering wheel, it's been a long time.
|
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
I will definitely be doing the road course both days.
|
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
I'm leaning toward the TTS

Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
I was thinking about signing up for the TTS. This would be my first year in my first dsm. I just got it running for the first time, so I have a total of 10 miles 1g dsm driving experience.
The trans need new synchro rings, and I was thinking about welding the center diff while I was in there. But, I imagine it would make for shitty driving on the road course and autox on the tight turns. Anyone have experience with this? |
Re: MAP Proving Grounds 2013 Part1 ROAD COURSE TALK
What time does the HPDE go on for?
I'd like to do HPDE saturday, then auto-x in the afternoon. Will that work? |

Plan is to do drag racing early Saturday, then early afternoon do my two 20 minute sessions of HPDE, then 4pm is autox. Then Sunday one HPDE session and timed laps. Should be an awesome weekend. |
