Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Or, instead of starting a new thread you could actually update your project thread with STATUS OF THE PROJECT. All you ever seem to post is a parts list? Over and over? Are you just slowly but surely buying parts? Is the car under the knife and being built now? What are you actually doing?
I understand the obsession that can go with these projects, but you sir are doing it wrong. |

Oh shit haha my bad! Engine blew up last August, 3 holes in the block :-/ Very sad moment, But watching it getting hauled away told myself major upgrades are coming! Not much I can do at the moment since I don't have any parts yet..
Everything is bought just waiting on the engine to get done being built, Then I'm gonna head to map and pick it up and everything else. Slowly working on it now, Going to take out the a/c system soon. Really want to paint the engine bay but $$$$$ Is an issue at the moment. |
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
You can rattle can the bay and make it look good! Plus it fits into anyone budget.
What turbo you plan on running? |
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
If you rattle can it. Put a lot of clear coats on it. It will helps it stay nice and shiny

What's wrong with Holset?
|
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
You could of saved a lot of money not even cutting corners, then you would of been able to buy turbo and injectors. But, yeah your build your money. I'm sure it will still be fun to drive on a 16G.

Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Was going on a little 'night cruise' Hit like 125mph.. coasting for awhile.. down shifted went to go accel again and I knocked, let off right away.. Thought I'd try it again and then boom!!! going like 60 maybe and only at like 10-15psi Remember hearing metal flying everywhere, seeing fire coming from under my hood and under my car, Shit flying behind me.. Pulled over and flames were shooting out the side of my hood, smoke just pouring out. Popped open the hood and everything was covered in oil and burnt. Smoked finally cleared.. and ohhhh helllooo that hole shouldn't be there... lol
|
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Yeah, high load 5th gear pulls will toss rods a lot easier than a 2-3-4 pull will.
|
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
I believe I was in 4th at the time, At like 5k rpms.. It's been a while, I don't remember exactly... Just bad news all around lol

Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Heard back from map!
The head should be done within the next week or 2, as well as the shortblock I'm hoping! And got everything to assemble it now. New oem tensioner adjuster, Idler pulley, tensioner pulley, oem water pump assembly, Went with a Gates Racing timing belt, fel-pro PermaTorque MLS Headgaset, and MAP Ultimate Duty H11 head studs. So now just gotta clean up the engine bay and get rid of anything that I don't need anymore and where to start on that I'm not even sure haha... Hopefully I'll get some new pics posted up soon! Just waiting on parts still!! |

Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Nice!!!
|
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Nice indeed!
|
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Trying really hard to get it done! And do the break-in procedure. Recommend 500miles on it before the tune.. I dunno if I'll get that far but we'll see. Really hoping nothing breaks during installation.. *knocks on wood* I still gotta pick up a 1g harness to use the 1g head, And figure out what to do with my power steering since it won't bolt up to a 6bolt.
|
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build

You won't need a 6 bolt harness, You will use all your 2G sensors and the bracket from the 7 bolt will bolt to the 6 bolt block very easy for power steering. Here ya go http://magnusmotorsports.com/wp-cont...02/1gina2g.pdf |
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
You need to use a 1g cas still and use the 1g in a 2g magnus harness.
|
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Thanks guys! There is couple more parts that I forgot.. This deadline is looking more n more far fetched by the looks of it lol But we'll see!
|
Re: Update on my 98 GSX build
Gotta love shiny new parts! Got a lot of work to do but it's possible if you have everything you need and get moving on it quickly

Since then I've updated to a fp green turbo! 63mm TB(Done by throttlebodys.com) Got a few parts powder coated as well loved the way they turned out! And hopefully the rest of the parts show up middle of next week and get the engine in the car and hopefully get er running within 2weeks! Had to reschedule my tune date twice already >.<
