New Corvette, mkay?

C7 'launched' today...looks pretty legit. Camaro tails, hood vent (finally), cool rev-matching downshifts. Direct injection, variable cam timing, and cylinder shut-off technology for meaty v4 fun while cruising.

I will LOVE to see how the aftermarket gets 1000hp out of one of these new LT1 motors reliably...with direct injection, running ethanol is gonna be pretty tough, going to need some mega fuel pumps!

I am going to have choices now! Still leaning towards something AWD but that this is sexy and they made some huge improvements to it.

Re: New Corvette, mkay?

I am very curious so see what weight it comes in at. It is obvious they really tried to cut as much as possible. They dropped 97 lbs from the frame, use CF in the roof and hood (not part of the 97 lbs) and magnesium frames in the seats. The 2013 weighed 3208, do you think it could possibly come in under 3000 lbs? That would be a hell of a feat in this day and age. I can't wait to see some reviews!

Zero chance.

Re: New Corvette, mkay?

My one complaint, like the rest of America, is the rearend/taillights, but even still, it's a very good looking car. Is this the full production model or late prototype? If late prototype, hopefully they de-Camaro the back a bit. I bet it looks much better in person though. The interior sure is improved too! It's nice to see some bolstered seats finally and a dash not lifted straight from an econobox.

JET 01-14-2013 09:40 AM

Re: New Corvette, mkay?

This is the final prototype, so it should be 99% production. I wish they would have kept the round taillights, but I am alright with what they did. They need a little more body color down in the splitter area in the back.

Hopefully this will drive the price of the C5's down to the C4 levels...upgrade coming soon for this guy then!

I wonder how much effect these will have on C6Z's they are already one of the best bangs for the buck out there.

I am loving the new vette, looks great.

Would be a tough call between a c6 z and this. Can't wait to see one in person.

Pretty sure its still pushrod. There was a big article on the motor itself somewhere, had a full breakdown, seemed pretty cool.

Push rod, direct injection, 11.5:1, variable cam timing and cylinder deactivation. They are saying 28mpg and 450/450.

Chassis pic, all aluminum.

In the immortal words of Jeremy Clarkson, "Leaf Springs!"

That being said, I'd take this over the fat-ass GT-R.

Yea, first thing I thought was that it looked kind of Camaro-ish. I haven't seen pics of the interior at all, hopefully it's better than the older ones and has a higher build quality on the interior. Any exterior pics of any in white?

Not too shabby, has some good lines, dont like the rear end much though. Steering wheel looks gross. haha

Re: New Corvette, mkay?

I wonder how one of these would be a for a DD? 450/450 makes it more powerful than my car, most likely with a fatter powerband, and at a lower weight.

Re: New Corvette, mkay?

Looks pretty awesome to me!

What is base price for a base vette, like 55ish usually? Going to need to wait ~2years before I would consider buying one. Which works as by then you will have good aftermarket support and know if its a turd or not.

Kracka 01-14-2013 12:48 PM

Re: New Corvette, mkay?

Right now rumors are saying ~$54k base price for the Stingray (which will be the base model).

I'd have a hard time not having a RWD car in Texas. Especially if I could start over with no giant investment in the evo.

Kracka 01-14-2013 12:52 PM

Re: New Corvette, mkay?

RWD V8 does make sense down here; long fast highways with minimal inclement weather. When we do get it, everything shuts down anyway. I wish I could find my pics of the Z06 driving through the snow though.

And get better MPG to boot :)

I wonder what the numbers to the wheels will be once we start seeing dynos...

Haha those pics of the C5Z in snow were funny.
54k is a price jump, the C6 base 1LT was 46k or something. I think my 3LT had a 53k sticker price. Maybe they are including more standard features on the base model.

True on both counts; what really matters is what it'll put to the wheels.

I'd have to imagine anywhere from 380 to a hair over 400whp. Depending on what day of the week the car was made.

2013 C6 base price is $49k. More standard performance features on the base model now, CF roof and hood, aluminum frame, etc. An extra 20 hp too.

Ah yea I was thinking of the early LS2 models, I think they were a bit cheaper. I wonder if they will offer a clear roof option again.

3 options for the roof, painted CF, bare CF or clear.

Thats about what the 430hp LS3 C6s made to the tires stock.

I dig it. Finally a stingray that does not make me puke. IMO if they would have gone with a diff rear end design it would be that much better.
