Chaos! Project phoenix

Been running same setup basically since 08 so i decided to make a few changes. I had bad machine work on the head so I had to change all the valves and seals and the head work had to be redone. At the point I said might as well go balls out lol.

Sold my FP4r and went with FFWD KING KAMS and FFWD Bee-Mads

Cams Specs are level of a GSC3 or Kelford 280 but more duration and just better all around specs period. I have the last of these cams.

I decided to go all out with the block. Setup is is hush hush.
Block is half filled though

Sounds like fun! Did you do any figuring of the helmholtz resonance when you extended the plenum on the Forrester?

Actually there was a phenolic plenum spacer that Forrester made for the manifold a few years ago. He did all the testing. Think it made like 35whp more at same boost on a 35r with almost no low end loss etc. Mine just had the spacer cnc'd to exact same specs and welded on.

Re: Chaos! Project phoenix

Thanks. I can't wait to see how she is with the new setup. On street tires and no 2step car ran 10.5 135mph on old setup @ 31psi.

Here's Old setup at 38psi. 70mph pull in Mexico. not the best vid but you get the idea.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rtIgLdhmjw

I got a hookup on that motor in 08. May sound crazy but but I was never really happy with it. So i said fuck it and decided to do a rebuild the exact way i've always wanted to. I drove 135 miles (One Way) a few times a week to sit with the machine shop to ask questions, listen, take in info, and learn to figure out a great street setup. I didn't go with the direction anyone I knew wanted me to. This is not the typical build.

Here is my crank.

“Hush Hush” setups suck balls. Care to elaborate why, some new found tech in the land of 20 year old DSM's? Enough with the hate on my part, just a pet peeve of mine.

Nice crank & turbine, what have people made on that 6767 and what are your goals, with car and power level? Looks good!

Thanks. no 4cl I know of personally has ran this 67mm. but i know of v8's that have had great results switching to other ett comp turbos. Goal is to run 9's on street tires at or near the boost the car ran mid 10's on 31psi. They said turbo flows a lil over 100lbs/min. Once its dyno'd i'll know off wastegate spring where i'm at.

Setup looks sick. Agreed that hush hush on a Dsm is dumb. Either way good luck with it, should be sweet once its done.

Re: Chaos! Project phoenix

So a "great street setup" consists of a cement filled block and 6000 RPM of lag?

Good thing you still have the balance shafts to reduce that cabin vibration!

Just giving you shit; I'm sure you'll have fun killing turbo Busa's :D

Thanks. This is just the beginning. Wait till I post the turbo setup and first start lol.

When it comes to the car I built it for one reason. For me. Some go down the road of building/racing their car for recognition and end up never being happy. So if you really want to build the car first make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. Then do your research and take your time.

Alternator is relocated and to me the car has a better feeling and is more responsive without power steering. So I had it taken off.

Mitsubishi found it helpful to put a bracket there stock. It connects the DP to the block. Its completely unnecessary though, your exhaust studs and the aluminum they thread into wont be experiencing any extra stress or weight with your setup. Forget I said anything. Helicoiling with a hand drill is fun!

My turbo isn't the smallest but only weighs like 10lbs with the billet CHRA. These pics are only the mockup. this is Not the final setup. Its gone look WAY DIFFERENT lol.

Thanks. Ran into fitment issues with the ETC core. It was way to short on both sides (1.5"). Now all that's left on the turbo setup is one dumptube. Then downpipe, turbine housing, and both dumptubes go to ceramic coater. But not just any ceramic coating. These guys coating rated at 2200*. It's a dual stage process.... on the outside as well as on the inside.

Ha, yeah, I doubt there are any hush hush secrets anymore. Anytime I see that on a national board, I see a post from Marco 30 seconds later saying he did that in 2004, which he did.

Those lightened cranks always scare me a bit unless mallory metal is added to offset the piston/rod weight accordingly. Although on a racecar, who cares, nobody is driving them 100k miles.

I like the custom exhaust. I'm getting tired of piecing together mine to get it the way I like, I'm thinking about just starting from scratch and making it completely. My goal is to have it hug the undercarriage tighter than the ones I see on the market right now.

The guy who does the crank puts alot of time into doing it right. A single crank has been proven for years thru a few shops on different fast cars. I mean alot of years lol

Ran into a few issues. It seems the 4" ETS intercooler core is to short ( over 1" on both sides) and doesn't clear the radiator. Devo wanted a new Core but was advised by ETS to cut down the radiator and fab it to work smh. So not wanting to go back and forth or take forever waiting for a new core from ETS they did the fab. But, that now caused the 3" IC piping to have to be routed in a way that now it won't clear the trans mount etc. Devo then mentioned a bar to fix the issue. I didn't even give them a chance to tell me what it was called. I had an idea what they were talking about so I made a call and a few hours later.

Finally it's done. Dual stage coating on both inside and out. Turbine housing was sanded down then coated. I look forward to see how low the temps drop in the bay after this.
