Tuning advice for my new GSX...

Hey all,

I'm picking the following car up tomorrow evening:

1998 Mitubishi Eclipse GSX

Engine:
DSMlink version 3
2.4L (Eagle rods, Wiseco pistons, 8.8:1)
1G head (ported, polished and gasket matched)
Forced Performance FP HTA GT3582R
Forced Performance dual valve springs
Forced Performance FP3X cams with adjustable cam gears
Tial 44mm external wastegate
SFP exhaust manifold
Polyeutrethane engine mounts
ARP head studs
Felpro headgasket
Magnus intake manifold
RRE 3" downpipe
Apexi 3" catback
Setrab oil cooler
Apexi Skyline FMIC

Fuel:
E85
Walbro 255LPH in-tank
Bosch 044 in-line
-8AN feed and return
Aeromotive FPR
Aeromotive stainless fuel filter
FIC fuel rails
FIC 1250CC injectors

Drivetrain:
Shep Stage 4 transmission
Shep 4 spider differential
Limited slip rear end
PPT twin disk with Isuzu slave

Suspension:
Tein Flex with EDFC
RM front sway bar
RRE custom rear sway bar
Suspension Techniques bushings
13" Baer Claw brakes
Stainless steel brake lines
Rear strut tower brace
17" Motegi Tracklite (flat black)
Goodyear Eagle F1 225/45/17

We have it idling, but that's about it right now. The car has been sitting and the ECU used for another car since then, so no tune currently exists for the car.

I'm wondering where you would go to have it tuned down in the cities. Everyone has their opinions but I'd like to hear yours. I know the basics of tuning (I am proficient with HPTuners) but I don't feel like learning on this car.

And I'd like this to happen ASAP, of course (this weekend?)

DB in Rogers is the main place where most of us go, MAP is also another possibility. Nice shop, I just haven't used them personally.

Swing by DB Performance. Shane will hook you up for sure. Other shops would be Modern Performance and RS Motors.

Get tuned ASAP!

Are you picking up that silver one up there?

That is a badass fucking car. Also hi again, you must really like me.

Make an appointment, there's usually a wait.

They say the 23rd is the soonest I can get in. I don't think that will work, unfortunately but I'm guessing it's the same everywhere else because of the time of year...

Anyway, yeah I am buying "GSXTacy". I'm going to daily drive it.

Thanks Chris, looks like you have something next week. Now to figure out if I can leave work for a day...

It'll be worth the wait for Shane! Why do you think there is such a line? ;)

Also, where'd you find the car and what'd you pick it up for? Seems like an awesome car

I bought it locally (well, in Superior, Wisconsin actually). It has been built for years and is a bit of a legend around these parts (I remember hearing about it years ago) and really done correctly. Bryan Nelson is the prior owner of the car. It was tuned before he stored it but then lent his ECU to a friend (Alexey) and we lost the tune in the process :(

Bryan owned the car for 12 years since 2000. It's only seen 1 winter.

Re: Tuning advice for my new GSX...

Where'd he get it tuned? Maybe the previous tuner still has the tune for it? He doesn't have any old logs or posted logs anywhere?

I bet if you went with Shane he'd give you a solid base tune to drive around on. Then you could get a tank or two of new gas through it and not have to worry about any old gas still being in the tank.

Perfect setup though. You don't need to touch a thing besides getting it tuned! You're a lucky sob. haha

I was just going to ask Bryan if he'd sold that car yet. I built the engine for it years ago, it's identical to the one in my car. He's got a TON of money in that car and he has always been extremely meticulous in it's care, nothing but the best. You will be very happy with it, I'd thought about buying it more than once, it's a very fast car.

I think I might, but they're for the old version of DSM Link (they're DAT files if that helps - I think they were used with DSM Link V2). We might have a current tune but it's on a machine with a bad HD, so we'll see. Another very good local guy tuned the car but he's up to his eyeballs with work, house stuff, etc. and has no time to tune it.

Yeah, I am actually picking it up tonight but I've been over there the last few nights changing the oil, draining fuel, installing injectors, etc. The car needs a few very small things to be perfect in my eyes but it will be awesome. He did a very good job with it.

I should probably post a welcome thread or something but this is the project car I'm currently finishing up:

They'll do fine :) It has an 8.8" torque arm solid axle with Strange coilovers and a Powerglide

Holy crap, I need a ride in that thing. I've been seriously contemplating an LSx swap into my DSM for some time.

It should scoot. I'm aiming for 650-700RWHP on that setup. It will be interesting having both of these cars lol.

Even though they make similar power they're still TOTALLY different animals.

I figured the drivetrain would be sorted, you still aren't putting 700whp down through those tires though! :seeya:

I agree, I want a ride too!

I'm optimistic, but we will see lol. They're 275 NT05R drag radials

You are a slut.

That DSM is amazing, you will have quite the fleet. Good luck man, let me know when you are in the cities.

Thanks dudes. I finally have the car in my possession! It needs a tune badly but is plenty fine out of boost.

Here's some pictures after a quick wash and vacuum. I will be going much more into detail when I have more time (especially in the engine bay):

Yeah, I remember going out to the shootout one year in that car, having the air on the whole time was nice considering my car never had it. Those in-car adjustable Teins got to be pretty sweet as well.

Yes the suspension is amazing in this car. I'm definitely going to road course it (and drag the RX-7 - I prob won't drag this as I don't want to break shit).

I got my appointment scheduled for DB on the 23rd! I'm excite!

I love them. I don't normally like 5 spoke wheels but these look good. I didn't realize it but another local car guy and friend with an Evo has the same wheels... oops.

Anyway, my limiting factor is going to be my injectors, and that's fine by me. No idea what 1250s are good for on E. Bryan said they were at 100% IDC at 30PSI. From what I'm reading online (so we know it's factual :loser:) 25PSI on this setup is typically 500-550AWHP.

I'd say that's a pretty accurate number, and that's probably DD numbers, DJ would probably be in the 6xx range. With the same engine, slightly smaller turbo, I made 520awhp at 31psi at Shane's on 1600cc injectors and twin Walbros.
