Just realized I have a few more things to buy before I can finish my car.
and Slim line FAns are one of them I'm wondering: -which ones to use -how much CFM should I go with -where should I buy them from -Which Style (push or Pull?) FYI - I don't have my A/C decrompressor anymore so I have a space between my FMIC and Radiator. I've been battling a high temp problem for some time now. So I also need to get a lower thermostat. Any idea's there as well? |
If you look on ebay you can get 2 10" fans for $75. Ryan has them on his galant and there really nice fans, and a good price. As for the thermostat try just about any dsm vendor, dsm motorsports I think sells lower temp ones. Also you are going to want to try just water with ither dish soap or water weter.

I'm in that boat as well, i need a slim line fan, my turbo is getting in the way... damn turbos...
i took out the ac so there is plenty of room for a fan in the front of the radiator, should i just go with the push one? -E |
just about any aftermarket fan can be switched to push or blow, so putting them infront of the radiator is a really good idea, saves room for massive turbos.

Thing is i should have the car running tonight, so i need something localy... any local shop that caries them in stock...

checker, $80 for 1 10" fan.

You recommend 10" over 12" - also what CFM are they putting out?
I don't have access to Ebay, nor do I have a credit card. So I'll have to buy them from a local shop. I'd like to put the Fan in Front of the Radiator so that when I have to work on my car, I'll have more room. But what I'm also wondering would it be better to do 2 fans one in front and one behind that way the Motor/turbo itself get's air over it to help cool? |
probably better off with 2 in front of the radiator...
i'll look at a local checkers or something.. hopefully they are like dual speed or something... -E |
You don't need any fans in your car unless you plan on sitting at idle for a while. I haven't had fans for a couple months now and have never overheated. Just keep moving ;) . Don't beat the shit out of the car and pull over and talk to your friends. Just keep driving down the freeway. BTW, I am going to be getting some.
|
so basicly what you are saying is you need one ;)
|
No, I dont NEED one, but I am going to get one anyhow. I have never overheated my car. All you have to do is use common sense.
|
Well My car runs 216 degree's just by driving it. (cruising)
so it's hot enough as it is. By August I plan on getting a Fluidyne to go with the Fans. And maybe carbon Fiber hood with some sort of Vent system designed in it. I just want more airflow in the engine bay, which I'm hoping in return with help several things. Intake Temps, coolant Temps, overall put a higher rate of Air flow over all engine parts, as well as possibly increase Air flow over the K&N |
Without reading at all about fans but using what I learned this past semester about hog confinement ventilation, for fans you need to look overall at two things: efficiency and deliverable CFMs. Brand may or may not mean shit depending on the two factors I just listed. I would sure hope that somewhere along the line someone has done testing on automotive fans similar to what Bell Labs does for the agricultural industry.

Hense why I asked about CFM.
I don't necessarly want cheap - I want quality/a lot of CFM, and good price, and somewhat easy install. |

how does that look, 12² Fan Specs CFM Pull 1200-1450 CFM Push 1350-1550 Dimensions 11-3/4² x 12-1/2² x 2-1/2² Amps (push or pull) 5.5 +-0.5 AMP Volts 12 Manufacturer Generic Country of Origin Unknown (suspect Asia) i could buy two and sell you the other one? -E |

if you want to keep your shit cool, first choice are the stock fans with full shrouding. they cool better than 95% of aftermarket setups.
if you cant fit them, get a SPAL 12" high performance for the passenger side, and a SPAL 10" regular for the A/C side. The high performance models are 3.7" deep, the regular ones are 2.05" deep. Generally on the A/C side you'll need the extra clearance for turbo/manifold/piping/etc. The 12" high performance comes in both straight and curved blade styles, the straight blade is much higher flowing, but a lot more current draw. The curved is a good in-between, and will flow around 1400cfm. The 10" regular flows around 650cfm. Visit http://www.jaycorptech.com to see detailed specs and sizing for all SPAL models. I'm sure elite can get them for you. Make sure they are flush up with the radiator, and try not to bend up the fins too much on install, though if you don't have the fluidyne yet your fins probably aren't that flimsy :) |
if you are overheating/have high temps crusing down the highway, you have other problems.
My car did this and had a bad headgasket. kevin ran around for a very long time without a fan, even in the summer i think, without any problems, but would start to get hot if idled at a standstill for too long. try a thermostat first, or take it out. After i fixed my HG, temps never rose over like 150 (without a thermostat) unless it would idle forever... Adam |
The ones Enes liked to in his second post are the ones I have. Same person and everything. My temp is ALMOST ALWAYS 197*F. Except at the end of a long pull (It's still 197/198 at the end of a 1/4 mile run), then they might be higher. I can't give fans the credit for that really though, most of it is just having a good cooling system, with a no problems.
|
do you have it as pull or push right now?
_E |
My car isn't overheating, or have a blown head gasket - no coolant bubbling, etc
it just runs hot. the thermostat is a checker thermostat. I have no idea what temp rating it's at but it's annoying, I know I'm loosing HP due to the temp issues. Average Cruise Temp is 216 after a hard pull it's up to 223. during the winter it might get down to 206 every once and a while. I'm going to buy a Thermostat - once I get back from my Vacation, and will be looking for Fans at the same time. I checked checker last night - and for 1 Flex a Lite Fan they wanted $159 I'll probably end up going Spal or something. Enes if you end up getting the fans off Ebay let me know how they work. |
i ordered them yesterday, they shiped the same day. i will be getting them on friday. installing on saturday.. Need to pick up some 14 gauge aluminum and a press today to bend some brackets for them... ;)
-E |
let me know where you get that alluminum. I want to start to fab up a bunch of stuff for my car.
|
dood, next time you are at elite... turn around. look at the building across the street!!!
and you will be set! -e |
I didn't know if that was a shop or not. Looked like just a place where they make the metal (a lot of those type places don't allow you to buy anything unless you have an invoice from one of there vendors)
|
they opened up to public a few years ago, a great source for bulk metal. nice for brackets etc etc. i will be doing my own, and hopefully today picking up a big press and i'll be able to use it for many nice things down the road with proper directions from Raptor....
-E |
Good luck!
I just want to make some aluminum brackets and what not so that I can make the engine bay more bling bling!, (to hopefully blind everyone so they don't notice all the rust.) |
Until the head gasket took a crap, SidewaysMotorsports rally car worked awesome with twin 12" pushers in the front of a PWR. We have one wired to a manuel switch and the other to the stock fan switch in the corner of the radiator. On the other note, I have a really good deal on a 1/8"x4'x8' piece of tread plate aluminum (ie "diamound plate")
Later, John |
I am running them as pushers.
|
Enes - I know you had the fans installed.
But can you give me a description of your install what it took, how long, which Fans you went with, what the total cost was for each piece, and what you'd change if you could do it over again. Also which company you bought from. (I don't want to be scammed) Come friday I'm looking to buy the fans. so if anyone is willing to help me out with paypal or what ever I can give you the cash Friday. |
