How many guitarists (is that a word).. do we have on this board? I know Joe/gixxer is one and kevin/santa sorta is. ;) Any more? :jammin:

Jana 05-21-2004 10:00 PM

Mike is (1Vicious) and I know the other Mike (Raptor) used to be, not sure if he still is.

Halon 05-21-2004 11:04 PM

i played back in high school a little, still just play every now and then. I wouldn't say im good enough to be called a "guitarest" though. My buddy Austin on this board (IndiEP) is really damn good. We both started playin together, but he stuck with it more than I, and he has the perfect long skinny fingers for it.

jd1828 05-21-2004 11:43 PM

i use to play in a band in highschool. thats what i would dump all my money on before my dsm. i had lots of nice stuff but ive since sold all but one guitar.

glempo 05-22-2004 02:35 AM

I sorta dink around with guitars. I got a classic style fender electric and a fender acoustic

Jacek 05-22-2004 02:39 AM

fievel 05-22-2004 06:02 AM

I can talk guitar gear all day long, so give me a holla.

As far as guitars go, I currently own the following, :jammin:

Hamer Californian Elite USA (4 of them, I'm playing one of them in the above pic. I had an endorsement with Hamer.)
PRS Custom 24 Vintage Yellow quilt w/birds '95 (one of the last hand made)
PRS Custom 24 Amber Burst flame w/birds '92
Gibson Les Paul Gothic w/EMG Zakk Wylde pu's.
Gibson Les Paul Gary Moore
Gibson Les Paul Special (made in 1957, my dad bought it new, rarely take it out of it's case)
Ibanez RG7620VK 7-string
Ibanez RG1527CB Prestige 7-string
Jackson Randy Rhodes USA Edition
Heritage VIP1 (2 of them, they don't make them anymore)
Alvarez acoustic

I also currently own the following guitar amps, (I also had an endorsement with Mesa Engineering and D'Addario)

Fender Deluxe (1957 Tweed, my dad bought it new with the Les Paul)
Soldano SLO 100 (Rare Chrome Crocodile Tolex, 1 of 3 ever produced & one of the 3 is still at the factory)
Mesa Trem-O-Verb 2x12 combo
Mesa Dual Recto head (early edition, those in the know will understand)
Mesa Simul 395 power amp
Marshall 2550 Jubilee head
Marshall 9100 power amp
Randall RG80 head

My other gear is installed in my stage rig.

Currently looking into getting a Mesa Road King head.

Below is my current stage set-up. Mesa Engineering 20 space shock mount rack.

http://209.173.220.82/Vicious/rack.JPG

The only thing that has changed since this pic was taken is I replaced the Rocktron Piranha pre-amp with a Mesa Tri-Axis pre-amp (it kills), removed the MIDI switcher and installed a Rocktron 4 channel gate.

I have a pair of these Mesa Recto 4x12's, they rock. :jammin:

I've been busy in the studio lately doing some new recording, so hopefully I'll have some new stuff for you to hear in a couple of weeks.

Jana 05-22-2004 12:56 PM

Mike's awesome!! Can't wait to hear your new stuff! :D

Kougar 05-22-2004 01:40 PM

The skin flute is considered a musical instrument?

Blade 05-22-2004 02:01 PM

I just fuck around with my dads acoustic. I can only lay 3 Libras by A Perfect circle, and the beginning to Mothing Else Matters by Metallica. I know everybody can play those, but I pride myself in my ability! :liar: OKAY OKAY, I suck..........

SlimStyleDSM 05-22-2004 02:25 PM

Yeah I play too. I have 3...a fender strat, a fender acoustic, and a segal acoustic. Oh and a fender chorus amp with a few different pedals. All good times, if ya don't play you should pick one up, you could learn most mraz in about 10minutes and then hope you have that same kickass voice and all the ladies will be yours ;) .

The correct term would be "Bone-O-Phone"

SuperSleeper 05-22-2004 11:27 PM

I never specified musical instruments, now did I? :jammin:
But honestly, I also play the set and piano. :)

DSMGirl 05-27-2004 06:25 PM

I have a guiter and started to learn how to play last year but got too busy with my art this year to continue. When I finish college, I'm going to learn and then learn the violin :)

LOL, I actually just put the guitar down. All of my gear is broken too. My Les Paul is in 2 pieces...and I haven't fixed it yet so I play on an "axcalibur", it's pretty much a strat knock off and it friggin' sucks. My amp kinda blew up too, so I use a bass amp w/a peavey EQ through a monitor wedge. I really wanna get a peavey 5150 combo amp, its an awsome high gain amp and I can also rent it out for studio use and make some $$.

Get the 5150 or 5150II head instead of the combo and get a 2x12 or 4x12 cabinet. The high gain those amps have will cause microphonic feedback with the speakers in the same housing. Especially if you have a weak pre-amp tube. Also have it set up for an "adjustable bias". Any reputable tube amp shop can do it for you. Those amps have a fixed bias from the factory which runs the power tubes on the"cold" side which degrades the tone of the amp, especially at higher volumes. This was done to prevent the power tubes from wearing out while still under warranty :-( . Do not go messin' around in an amp if you don't know what you are doing. There are lethal voltages in there (250-500+ volts, even when unplugged from the 110vlts). Swapping tubes is easy and safe, as long as the glass housing is not cracked or broken. Have it set-up with a new set of Svetlana/SED 6L6GC tubes biased for what sounds the best (ussually 80-85% full power). You would not believe the difference it makes in those amps. Full and thick tone, not wimpy. Eddie (VH) doesn't run his stock either ;-). Get the tubes from somebody like NBS Electronics. They test and match all their power tubes, so once your amp is properly set-up, you can order replacement tubes later. You will get tubes matched the same and you won't have to re-bias your amp, just stick the new tubes in. I buy all my tubes from them too.

Ah, I never though about that. Which tubes are you talking about, the preamp or power amp?

Yea I play guitar also. I have been in various bands for the last 4 years. The band I was just in was getting real good but now our drummer quit. So im now looking for a new drummer. Anybody know any drummers?? Yea in this band we play all originals, and i write most of them and i also sing all of them.
For guitars i have: Gibson Les Paul, Fender Strat, Gibson Explorer, Ephiphone SG, Ephiphone acoustic, and an ibanzez semi hollow body guitar.
For amps i have a Marshall JCM 900 half stack, and a Marshall VS100 half stack.
No two better hobbies then playing guitar, and owning a DSM.

howslowcanyougo 06-05-2004 09:16 PM

Been playing on and off since I was 8, <about 35 years ago now> Playing with a 3 peice now, recording mostly original hard rock. I have a 98 Tele USA, 82 HAMER STD Explorer USA <I LOVE Old Hamers, great sustain and necks>, a Alverez Acoustic Eletric, and my favorite right now a black and silver Les Paul USA with Kammer hot rails pickups. Running a 100 Watt 6l6 Carvin Tube head, on a Jackson 4X12 bottom with a ZOOM 707exspresion-effect pedal. Also playing alot Bass for my Church now with a Kr Hamer STD bass and peavy 700 watt head and 4X10 bottom. Favorite guitarest: Micheal Schenker, Uli Roth, Robin Trower, Jimmey Page, Eddie Van Halen, Vivian Cambell, Alex Lifeson, Slash, Gary Richrath, Toni Iomi, George Lynch, Richie Backmore, and many many more.

I'll never be as good as I want to be, but playing guitar has given me many years of excitment, challanges, enjoyment and even relaxation.

For me its now just a fun hobby, lucky now to be able to keep our 3 peice going as life is busy and spare time is very short.

ROCK ON!

Howie :jammin:

1ViciousGSX 07-15-2004 10:02 PM

For those of us who think we can play, check this guy out.

I don't know what's more impressive, his ability or his ability to do that on an acoustic.

Kougar 07-15-2004 11:36 PM

Oh, i'd like to add that along with my bass, i also play a schecter 006 elite....HAHA THANKS CHER! :bounce:

SlowWhite 07-16-2004 08:57 AM

Used to play back in Highschool.

But sold my Les Paul Studio to Howie, and My Fender Accoustic Electric to Jenny's mother.

Goat Blower 07-16-2004 01:33 PM

4-string bass here. I've got an electric and an acoustic guitars but haven't sat down and learned much for chords yet.

That guy in the acoustic video does all the same right hand tricks as Victor Wooten on bass and his brother on electric guitar. Cool stuff.

If anybody's interested in trading a small bass practice amp for my 15" Peavey keyboard amp, let me know. It just doesn't have the low end punch I need, but is great for most other instruments and is loud as hell.

Knoc 07-16-2004 05:29 PM

Ive played guitar since I was 4. I have a 69' Fender Telecaster (All original) a Hardtop Acoustic Fender, a electric Acoustic also fender, and a 68' Gibson SG (All original) and a Solid Ivory Les paul looking electric guitar. Its really old and were unsure of the name. My dad learned on that guitar also.

My dad has a Telecaster also, a SRV Stratocaster, a regular Stratocaster, a Mustang and a couple Acoustics. All Fender. Were kinda a fender family..lol... Pus SHIT loads of P.A.'s, lights amps, stacks Etc.. My dad used to be in numerous bands so we have shit loads of equipment.

1ViciousGSX 07-16-2004 05:31 PM

I'm surpirsed to see so many guitarist here, but it's a good thing :jammin: :grouphug: :jammin:
