Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
5 Attachment(s)
Long Time Since Ive Been Around.
Anyways, Here is my RB S14. The guy before me drifted it pretty hard :/. and left me to clean it up. Which is 100% cool with me because i got it for a decent deal. It is pretty sketchy in the engine bay, Needs a lot of body work, and just needs some tlc. Im going to paint it flat white with black wheels, and im cleaning it up overall more and more everyday. |
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
oh wow. very interesting. looks good. how's it running?
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
ack! those wheels! kill them with fire! lol
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
Nice looking car.
Put a bigger motor in it, lol. |
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
It's running good. But I have to finish the exhaust from the downpipe. And the rear differential bushings were out. But I replaced them already. And yeah. Those rims ARE getting switched/painted
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
I heard you dorifto guys like holsets, I know someone that has a mint HX35
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
How much for that 35?
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
Can you tell us more about it? What motor is that, what mods are all on it?
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
frront end conversion soon so it's not that Camry front end? :)
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
RB25?
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
Yeah it is an rb25det (94 r33? skyline motor + R34 rwd skyline transmission). lot of work to do before spring!
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
front mount nismo intercooler w/ hard piping. tial bov. greddy cast intake manifold (freshly ported and polished). VQ35 throttle body. solid motor and transmission mounts. stock turbo running 11 pounds. manual boost controller. 3" downpipe. posi rear end. tanabe strut tower bars. thats what i know for now.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)

Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
well i believe this motor powered poth rwd and awd. just different transmissions. and this transmission is actually from an r34 rwd skyline. thought that was pretty awesome.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
You have All Pro do that powder coating? I like it much more now.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
I don't know if they did Awd rb25's, they were in most gts-t's, but believe in the r34, they started using the rb26 neo for rwd applications. Even 1989 R32's came with the rb26dett.
Looks like a fun project, how is driving a car with 2 more cylinders hanging off the front? I've always heard rb swaps make steering a little goofy, if the motor is not as far back in the car as possible. I'll be looking for an s13 coupe over this winter myself :) |
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
yeah the r34 did use the neo rb 26. but they made it work fot the 25. i donno ill have to dig for some numbers or codes on the transmission to be sure. but yeah a rwd project is fun in its own way from awd projects :). and yeah i got the parts powder coated at all pro. a little spendy. but worth it considereing those parts are gonna the most banged up on. and i like it 100% more now with that/those colors. and i kind of like that front end.... after looking at prices to convert it to a kouki front end :)

Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
FWIW, there a ton of good vinyl wraps available which could save mega time and money versus painting, especially if you're going to do a flat finish.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
FWIW? and i work at a body shop and i get it pretty good here. and ive never worked with vinyls. another question what does everyone think about flat paints? ive never worked with them or had them. i heard they are a bitch to keep clean.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
FWIW = for what it's worth, google is your friend :)
I say meh on the flat paint. |
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
haha yeah i suppose i coulda googled. but i donno i thought it would be really awesome and unique to do a flat/matte white on a 240sx.

i did my last 2g flat black (using spray cans WOOT), it came out ok, but i never cleaned it because i was scared of how it would turn out. Once oil gets on there its a bitch to clean.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
yeah that looks pretty good i guess! i donno if im gonna go flat anymore just by the info i have been getting.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
Please dont go flat.. ack.
Cool project though! |
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
If you are having it professionally done, I think satin panda cars look sexy as hell: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/a...ite-viper.html
I think you would just use regular white paint with a satin/low gloss clear coat, correct? I wouldn't just use flat white paint without clear. |
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
correct. that wrap looks awesome i should have considered that. but i am going with painting it. and i would spray the car with a flat white then use a flat, or like you said, low gloss clear coat for sure. the problem is cleaning it. once you rub/ wax/buff it. it leaves scratches or shiny spots no matter what. correct me if im wrong.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
Nothing is unique with 240s. May as well paint it a nice color, like black.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
Maybe I am getting old but I think the flats look too cheap on eclipses, 240s, rx7, the old 1990 gens. Too rat rodish. I don't think you are going for a rat rod look. It works on expensive cars because... well they are expensive no matter what you do to them.
I think if you put your time in with a good paint job it will look 100% clean especially if you are going for white. Edit: you will have to paint the engine bay as well |
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
Flat black on a 240 is so 2002-2003. The Twin Cities was crawling with them back then and every one of those guys thought the were the only ones with a flat black 240. Tintmasters has a flat black RX7 that looks cool, but flat paint jobs are a nightmare to try to keep looking decent. I would do it a on a track only car.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
I would never do a flat white. That shit is sooo hard to keep clean. A car wash would never take all the dirt off so it would need to be hand washed every time
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
Flat done by anyone but the pros suck ass. They only seem to look good on exotics these days.
|
Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
right thats exactly what i was thinking. yeah fuck going flat. i think ill just go with white. i donno something about white that just makes the car pop. especially if the cars body is straight.

here is a little update, body work is nearly done. interior is completely cleaned up. engine bay needed a lot of tlc so i cleaned up everything that was there for no particular reason. did some re wiring, re routing, and re "vacumming". shaved valve cover(s), spark plug cover, shaved, ported and polished intake manifold, de ziptied everything, re fabricated the front bumper, and a bunch of other odds and ends.

Re: Picked Up Another Project (RB S14)
