Sports car for around 10k

My friend is looking for a fun/fast sports car for around $10k cash. He is not a mechanic, so modding is not an option. Also, he has never had a sports car so no need for 600hp, something "Quick" would suffice. Just something that looks cool and is fun to drive.

Suggestions??

My suggestions were WRX, 350z, s2000, mr2 and rsx.

Is it a daily driver or just an extra fun car?

Mostly a fun car. He lives and works downtown, so no need to commute and he has not owned a car for 4 years. He lives with his GF who has a daily they tend to share.

LOL, why no 350z out of curiosity?

If its just a fun car a 350Z is a good option, they can be had for ~$12k. The 89-99 MR2's are great looking but harder to find for cheap. I've always been a fan of the Scion tC, or possible find a good deal on an older boxster?

I'm going to play Devil's advocate and suggest a Toyota MR-S. You can find them very clean for 10k has an unbreakable 1zz engine, fantastic brakes and very fun to drive around at 2200 lbs. Did I mention 35 MPG HWY?

S2000. Once you drive one, you understand why people love them. Then you add a turbo and they are even better :p

350z is OK. But I'd much rather have an s2k.

I've got a E36 M3 Convertible that I'd sell for less than that.

I've been looking at s2k's lately and they are hard to find with lower miles for 10k. But they seem like the most fun car for the money if 10k is the limit.

S2K with Vortech SQ setup

Or if he's 35 or older he could get a c4 vette

Haha I was just going to say a higher mileage c5 or a c4, but joking. I assume your friend will probably want something a bit newer.

I also vote S2000, I have never driven one but had some rides and they seem like fun cars for the money.

What about a Mazdaspeed Miata? They're fun little cars, hard to find though.

350z's/G35's drive like shit. That's my opinion after driving one.

S2000's are ok but good luck finding a "good" one (02+) in MN for $10k. Screw the WRX.

I guess he could look into Mazdaspeed Miatas?

All cars suck though.

Re: Sports car for around 10k

Why do you say a good one is '02+? Because of the glass back window?

Re: Sports car for around 10k

The 350Z isn't bad, it would be decently fun car. I wouldn't mind one for a track car, even though I don't like the looks of a lot of them. I like how the 370Z looks much much more. The newer MR2 would be fun, they have a couple problems depending on the year that you would want to make sure they are already fixed or take care of. Older MR2 requires a mechanic to own it. The WRX is not a sports car and they have all kinds of problems with some miles on them. RSX, boring. S2000s are fairly solid in near stock form. Miatas are awesome if he isn't turned off by it being a Miata.

The mx-5 miata's are pretty fun, 6-spd, decent power and mpg. Its kinda a girls car... But so is a 2g :p

My buddy had an FD, and as awsome is that car is it's a headache to own. You have to know damn near everything about them or they don't seem to last. They are pretty tempermental machines, easily blown up by the uninformed, and may be to much of a chore to have for a fun car depending on how much you know about them, what kind of condition it's in, and how you mod it.

Has a nice catback, and I have a carbon fiber intake that's not installed, otherwise all stock. It's triple black, it's even got factory nav which apparently is rarer than rare according to the techs at BMW of Minnetonka, they've never seen one. I'd sell it for $7500, it'll be $9500 this spring.
