Edit: after reviewing the site somemore I realized the "Auto" mentioned was just the ending of the Company name "Tapp Auto" - Sorry. But still impressive for a full interior Daily Driver.
This was posted on the DSMLINK forums: Local talon runs 10.3@144 Yep, a local 96AWD full interior daily street driven talon ran a 10.3@144 this weekend on street radials. Amazing to see it in person! __________________ Car dyno'd 690whp. http://www.tappauto.com/page.cfm?id=1 |
There's hope for me after all!

Well a few of us locals plan to add to that "Rare" comment this year.
We'll see what Shane, Iceman, Myself, and the 2-3 other 2G's that are being built have to say to all you 1G guys. I say bring on the CrankWalking, Bubble Cars! Cause we ain't bowing down to you 1G's with out a fight. :razz2: |

2G and fast.....thats something ive only see on rare occasions AKA shootout |
Ladies and Gentlemen ,welcome to the Lawrence Welk Show. Turn on the bubble machines please. :3gears:

What if you have 6bolt 1g engine and big turbo in 2g car. I wonder how many 400 + whp 2g 7bolts are out there. Over 600whp stock 7bolt is hard to believe. Race built 7bolt, yes, I just wonder how many are still running or are out there. :3gears:
|
That car is a 6 bolt. I don't know of anyone making serious HP on a 7 bolt (500hp+).

Brian's topic title says "auto", am I too much of an idiot that I'm think this is an automatic car???
If that's true, that what are you manuals try to compete with???? You should be able to wax that time ;) |
It is a 5 spd Jana.
As for Chris Carey, us haters will see what? ;) |
Iceman's car is a 1g, not a 2g. His old car was a 2g. He saw the light and is building a 1g now. Seems like his car keeps getting slower and slower right now....
I think Chris means that we will see a nice view of the headlights fading away in our rear view mirrors. As far as stock 2g block goes, you pretty much max out ~400 whp and then shit starts to break on ya. Another 7 bolt block failed this weekend. |
You haters will see some mad 7 bolt powa! She's close guys, give me a few weeks then I can walk the walk AND talk the talk...Well at least I will try, never launched an AWD as of yet ;)

All in fun, you know. |
Comon guys give him some slack.... this is goint to be a well built engine, he tought of everything and unlike some people i know cheap asses, he isn't cutting corners. He is getting quality stuff and done properly.
DSM guys = Cheap asses, want things for free but when it comes to giving they are no where to be found!! -E Sorry to be off topic.. |

Don't try launching at 3200rpms and drop the clutch. It nicknamed me "SlowWhite" Try Stutterbox it at about 5500-5700 (make sure your quick with the shift/gas pedal) cause you'll run throught the gear real quick. |
I want to build my 7 bolt motor at least put Rods and pistons in it. But I don't like to have to rebuild twice
Also like to add my motor is completely rebuilt and now has 50k miles on it. No problems yet. (95%% of the time It's been beat on) And on the whole Crank Walk thing. Personally as far as MN members go. From what I've read/heard from people More 1G's have CrankWalked then 2G's. I'll be looking for Daily Driven 410-430whp once I'm done. And I might just for fun put in Rods and Piston's next year if I can find them cheap enough. |
You guys can put all the money into a 7-bolt you want. It's not the rods and pistons that fail, it's usually crankwalk, which the fixing of hasn't really been solved yet. The 2.4 7-bolt hasn't proved to be a boat anchor yet, but the 2.0 liter 7-bolt has. With all the blocks in the boneyard, it's hard to justify building a 7-bolt.
|
Yeah, hopefully the 2.4 7 bolt proves to be a different story. Haven't heard of many crankwalked 4G64's as of yet. Only one and that was due to build error...
We did however come across a few problems with my setup in this process. The main problem was with the main girdle, Mike would be able to explain it better, but it was actually out of factory spec as it sat. It was twisted in effect. That has been fixed and a CRCO dowel kit has been added, so that thrust bearing isn't going anywhere! I have done everything I can to keep this thing from walking, so if it does, well I don't know what I'll do, but it won't be pretty ;) As far as things look right now, there is no reason this motor should walk, and I am confident in the builder and the machine work. Over all I feel pretty good about this build. If I were to do it again though I would go 6 bolt. It would have been cheaper. Plus all of my reasoning for staying 7 bolt has since been thrown out the window! Chris |
Then it looks like the only thing left to worry about is that leg and crank killing 2900 and 6 puck. :)

I wonder what turbo he has on that thing.
