Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Good or bad, post it up. We are looking to improve this event every year. So help us out, we want to know.
Tell us what the best part was, and what the worst part was. |
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Bad: Not in TX :D

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
The only complaint I have is the announcer that Bir has. he seems to know nothing at all about the cars that were there and can't pronounce the word mitsubishi to save his life. I remember a a few years back at the muscle car shootout he was talking about Brent Rau's car and kept insisting it was a twin turbo lol. It would be cool if you could get someone to announce that had a clue what in the world he was talking about. If its not possible its not really to big of a deal just saying.

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
A centralized info center that is easily located and seen from a distance. In this info center, you will find info for ALL events taking place this weekend. Also you can buy your ticket to whatever event it is you want to do (i.e: AutoX, Drifting, road course, drags, ect…)

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Gonna have us a really simple contest.
We would love to get some solid feedback from those who attended Proving Grounds this year. The best and most helpful, constructive criticism posted will receive 1 of 10 free t-shirts. We want to make PG 2012 the best event possible, and we need your help to do it! Simply follow the link to our facebook page, post your feedback in the proper status update, and we'll select winners from there. To answer a question I know will be posted, the reason we are using facebook to host this is so we have 1 location to collect info from vs going through countless forums. Thanks for taking the time to help us out! http://www.facebook.com/modernautomotiveperformance |

I did hear through the grape vine that the car show portion was a mess again this year. A Stealth won "Best Domestic" WTF? |
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Payouts for drag, autox, road race, 1st - 3rd places. Actually keep track of places. Pair cars up better based on times in the classes. Post somewhat live results on Facebook and/or on a paper sheet somewhere. Have drag tech not take 2 hours, it should take 30 seconds to figure out what class a car goes in and check a few things over. Real awards ceremony, might be hard with some many things going on at such different times. Maybe do the drag eliminations in a way that all the finals are last, instead of just random based on number of cars in the field.

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
I agree with Shane on the tech. more inspectors are needed or something because that was crazy.
I also think the Map event and diesel event are both getting to big to share a day. everytime I went up to make a pass it was at least a 1/2 to 1 hr wait. Other then that a great event at a great track I'll definitly be back. |
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Bracket racing not heads up.
|
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
I think they used to have a bracket racing class. You can bracket race at any track any day though, no fast imports are going to want to bracket race.
|
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
It seemed like the trucks were always getting passes while the imports were waiting in the staging lanes. I would much rather see some sort of import vs domestic class or event instead of the trucks. I know the trucks are cool, just not "that" cool.

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Maybe the guy announcing just didn't like mitsu's, why not have someone from this site MC that cares and knows what he's talking about? Video of all of the head to head races in a bracket style setup to post on the internets so everyone can watch, I.E. members in texas.

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
I would of announced the event for you!!
I heard tech inspection sucked and I agree on some kind of map when you enter or some kind of signage and such. |
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
For whatever reason wherever I camped again this year it was nearly impossible to hear the announcer. This is somewhat a good thing but only b/c of the mitsubitchy shit, it would have been really really nice to actually be able to hear what class was being called instead of seeing them go rolling up there then go run for the car.
I couldn't give a shit about the power cruise or other upcoming events but I felt like those were kinda getting shoved down my throat all weekend. Tech inspection, like others said speed it up somehow--I went to get inspected for drag while I was in between autoX heats--I ended up being late getting back for my second heat b/c of the wait, and we had a 30 minute break. I know its the nature of the event being small but the diesel trucks really were a damper on saturday, but that almost made sunday that much more awesome! +1 on centralizing info and registration Biggest and most important? Unified classes between some or ALL events. AutoX track was fucking EPIC, have the track be somewhat like that again next year and the organizers were fucking awesome. Tech took 30 seconds, driver's meeting took 3 minutes, we were racing before I knew what was happening. That's how it should be :D I know there were issues with some individuals, but security was acting like mean big brothers/disgruntled cops/a-holes, not like shepherds of an awesome race track like last year. With all that, just do it again next year and hope for the best! This year was better than last year, I know it is crazy organizing an event this big--overall I had a blast! Oh, and don't ask me to post comments on facebook--I don't have an account and I don't want one ;) |
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Require mufflers on Starlets.
|
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
I agree with what scheides, and Halon said :)
|
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Is that the douche announcer who says "Mitsubitchy"? I hate that guy. The only reason to continuously do something like that, especially at an event where mitsu owners are paying you, is if he's honestly retarded, or has a deep hatred for anything not from the 70s and V8 powered.

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
A centralized information nexus would be key. This would facilitate solutions to several issues:
1. With the wind, it is very very hard to hear the announcer call your class to staging lanes -even harder if you are over watching an event such as drift. 2. An updated schedule should be maintained via a simple web page and also displayed at the aforementioned information booth. I saw a whole mess of cars leaving for breakfast not 5 minutes before the announcement that the drag time table had been moved up. This could cause issues. 3. Sinage. A few signs to point towards tech, autoX and info booth would be of great benefit. Plus they can be reused for years to come. 4. Suggested addition: mobile dyno. Just a thought... 5. Obviously faster tech. Sitting in like for a few hours was confusing at best. 6. The guys that ran autoX were amazing. I've never seen an event go off so efficiently. Please invite them back next year. 7. I really enjoyed racing heads up VS bracket. However, there might be a need for a bracket field as well. 8. I actually don't mind the drag announcer... I enjoy the old school folksy of it all. I think that with the plethora of top fuel cars that see that track, he's just keeping it real. Anyway, that's all I got. |

Also to note, that white one ran no better than 10s from what I saw all day on Saturday, then bust an 8.9 out of nowhere on Sunday. Who sandbags at an event like this? lol |

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Either no announcer or a half-decent one. He's annoying at every event, not just the MAP one. On the plus side, this time I managed to tune him out and didn't even notice him most of the time.
Figure out how to get some really fast cars there. Some signs to know where to go and what is where. More loud awesome rotarys and less loud irritating Honduhs. For whatever reason, it seemed like there was a lot of down time even with tons of cars waiting to get on the track. |

As well as explain, not make excuses, but let you know we've got some of these covered already. Upcoming events like the Powercruise, our sponsors, and everyone that is at BIR during an event like this is a necessity to the event, and well as to BIR. Powercruise gave us prizes to giveaway, you may not care about that personally, but others do. BIR sees every event they have up there as an opportunity to promote another. Without this marketing, the track would lose money, and then where would we race? Learn to appreciate these guys, without them, there is no track, or event to go to. Tech is something that shouldn't have been an issue. BIR had scheduling issues with tech personnel. I know, it sucked, but next year we'll be good. Security was stressed, we had a few too many issues sat night. We have a plan for that already in the works! This year our attendance was enough that we will look to have the track just to ourselves! Hope that answers a few things for you guys. We really do appreciate all the feedback, keep it coming! |

Less loud, obnoxious rotaries and less Honduhs. I mean really!! Do they think they own this event or what? My God! lol
That's really all I have.. |

the white car ran two 9.0 runs and a 9.10 on friday and ran a 8.90 and 9.0 on saturday. Please explain how that is sandbagging? His times have been getting better and better. last year I think his best time was a 9.40 on the setup ... and the white one has no muffler... basically straight 5" dump off the turbo hoping next yr I have time to join them |
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Quote:
And the turbo is effectively a muffler, which explains why that one makes at least tolerable noise levels. I guess I misread one of the times (probably the 9.10) as a 10.x, my bad. I was doing my best to ignore their cars. In the end, I'd have zero issues with that group if they'd leave the brown car and the noisy pit bikes/atvs/etc at home and make normal amounts of noise like everyone else. And that's coming from the loudest person on MitsuStyle. |
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Quote:
the brown car is loud, but not 'that' loud. If your car can't stay running because of the noise, I would say that is more your problem than theirs. Sure it isn't the fastest thing out there, but for the money into it, they have fun with it and it runs decent times. And good for you, you have a fast DD. MY evo is probably faster than it was well <- just don't see how that matters much. They go to the track for a good time. I say lighten up a bit and have a good time too |
Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
Goto a domestic day with fast cars, there are much louder cars...

K, just needed some clarification :)

Re: Proving Grounds 2011 feedback?
I personally didn't hear a car that was loud all weekend. But then I go to track days all the time. This weekend was tame, and quiet compared to nationals, or even the show and shine.
Cars are supposed to be loud imo lol. |
