New Beginnings: 1994 Eagle Talon TSi

As many of you know I bought Goodhart's 1994 Talon shell. In hopes of being able to enjoy this car this year I have diligently worked to finish this thing ASAP.

What I thought would take 6 months to do I think I will manage to have this up and running next month. I know this thread is pretty worthless without pictures but there really isn't much to see at this point. I'll start posting pictures worth looking at once I start putting her back together.

But I CAN tell you what I am going to be running.

Motor:
2.0L
Wiseco pistons .020 over
Eagle rods
ACL race bearings
ARP main studs
L19 head studs
Crower 280's
Crower valve springs/retainers
(Unsure of what I'm going to do to the rest of the valvetrain)
Poly engine mounts
PTE 6776
FIC 1600cc injectors
Walboro 255 (Working on figuring out my pump needs. The wally is already in the tank)
SMIM (Still deciding on this as well, maybe JM Fab Drag w/Q45 or Accufab 75mm TB)
El cheapo FMIC
TiAL noise maker
COP w/ MSD DSI-2 Ignition Amplifiers <---Only if I have spark issues up top
E85

Drivetrain:
Rebuild and reshim by blackrosenova (Chad)
Jack's Transmission EVO III conversion
Some sort of quality clutch (Unsure of what I'm going to do as of now [PTT or Exedy twin disk???])

Brakes:
I feel like I should upgrade some of the braking components to handle the extra power, but I have yet to really think about it yet.

Suspension:
Still looking in to this, If anyone has any good used 1g AWD suspension for sale, let me know!

Ayy-OOo Technology:
ECMLink V?
AEM UEGO wideband
Auto Meter gauges

Interior, crocodile, alligator I drive a Chevrolet movie theater:
I'm probably gonna need a cage for the track
Either a nice pair of Recaro's or Bride's

Unsure of how much power I'm gonna make, not really gonna set any solid goals yet. Like I said, I'll post up pictures once I get some progress done!

Decently clean underneath:

Remember that there is already a single Walbro in the car already too :D No idea if it is an HP though, been to long haha

Thanks guys! Scheides, I hope I can make you proud! lol
I ordered my EVO III conversion, and AEM wideband today. Jack, from Jack's Transmisson's called me again after I placed my order to let me know that a few parts are at the machine shop and should be back ready for shipping on Monday....At least I'll have my wideband to look at until I get the EVO III parts.

I also pulled the rest of the power steering, and degreased the engine bay and subframe. All I have to do is sand some of the rust off and rattle can parts of the subframe black again.

Plans for the first week of the month will be to order the rest of my valvetrain parts and get the short block put together. I also have to pull the motor out of my '95 so I can figure out what the fuck I'm going to do with that thing.

I was going to wire tuck it before I threw the motor in, but for the sake of getting it tuned and ready for at least dyno day and/or proving grounds I figured I can stand looking at it like this until next winter. Well, until I get some yummy fun parts to take pictures of I'll spare you guys the pain of reading.

It'd be fun to be in the 10's. But we'll see what happens this year! :P

Well, finally have some updates. I just got my EVO III conversion from Jack's. I also received my AEM wideband a while back too. http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/a...Conversion.jpg

Tomorrow I'm picking up my SMIM and FPR. I'll also be selling a few parts to fund the rest of the stuff I need (Which always seems to get longer the more I think about it.). More pictures coming tomorrow!

Well, I got hung up tonight due to my VS compressor being a piece of shit. So I ordered this one tonight http://www.euroexportinc.com/store/m..._store=default . Definitely not as far as I'd like to have gotten, since I know I could have had it done tonight....Oh well. Some pictures coming in a bit.

Thanks Brad! Thanks for the custom work you did on that JM Fab. manifold . Pat and I stopped by DB and I picked Shane's brain for a minute. Well in the end I found out that the power I was originally thinking my setup was good for was WAY low. I'll have to rev higher than I was planning to, but I think I'll be pleasantly surprised with my final numbers. (Fingers crossed)

Good luck man! Looks like a fun build. I can't wait to maybe actually start another project. Can't seem to find me a shell and everything I want, is on backordered:(

Dooo eet! Finding a clean shell is hard these days. Especially 1g's. It should be a fun car once I'm tuned!

Re: New Beginnings: 1994 Eagle Talon TSi

Got a call from Chad today because he found a tiny chip on a corner of my 4th gear. Thankfully he caught it before he pressed it on to the input shaft so I was able to return it.

I really can't say enough great things about Jack's. Both times that I have called them I have gotten a call back within 15 minutes and have spoken to Jack himself. He didn't hit me with a bunch of question to figure out if I was trying to screw him or not. All he said was, I'm really sorry about that. I'll ship one out to you today and you should see it in a few days. This is by far the best customer service I have ever received.

That's great to hear. I've always liked their website when it comes to info on the X drivetrain. If I need a rebuild then they'd be my first choice.

Good luck with the build, sounds like it'll be a beast.

I can tell you already that you won't be dissapointed with their products and/or customer service. Also, from what I can tell their prices are VERY fair, and are a great value.

Thanks! I'm hoping so. Not gonna throw up any power goals yet in fear of being a douche and jinxing myself. I'll just let the dyno graph do the talking.

Hey you never mentioned anything about my customer service.....:rock2:

Have you figured out what clutch your using? I do have a starter ring gear if you need it.

Oh and FYI, that gear does not get pressed onto the shaft :)

Thanks Aaron. Yeah, I've been scraping by since I bought it so I can get this thing running. I know it'll be worth it though!

Oh yes! I would definitely recommend Chad to anyone that needs transmission work done. He does excellent work and provides VERY fair pricing. Plus he knows what he's talking about.

As far as as clutch goes I have been looking in to it but I can't decide what I should go with. What do you think would be a good fit? Again, I'm not putting up any power goals or estimates but I'm pretty confident that if I make as much power as this set up is built for I'll burn through a 6 puck pretty quick. Maybe a sprung 4-puck?

If ANYONE has any advice as to what direction I should consider please feel free to chime in.

I'm thinking I might need a twin disc to reliably handle the power. I asked Goodhart about his Exedy twin disc and he said it drives surprising nice for such an aggressive clutch. I don't care about the chatter associated with these. I just want the power to go to the ground.

For those who are running a twin disc setup, how's the pedal feel?

Yeah, most people don't. lol Fortunately I've met a few guys down here that are familiar with DSM's that I can call if I ever need an immediate hand. I sure do miss living in the cities though.

Re: New Beginnings: 1994 Eagle Talon TSi

Whatever disk swifty used to use seemed to handle some pretty damn good power. It was a southbend something or another, You'd have to ask him what it was, but it was a full face disk and handled the power he made last year. Not sure how long it would last though, we all know his car never seen a ton of miles either.

LingLing 04-09-2011 09:23 AM

Re: New Beginnings: 1994 Eagle Talon TSi

Yeah, he was running a Southbend single full face disc. He did make over 700awhp on that clutch. That might be something I should at least look in to.

I've been looking at all the twin disc setups available and I keep coming back to this one.

After reading more on these it does seem like this is the way to go to ensure the power gets to ground.

SPEC seems to have a pretty good lineup of twin disc kits for about the same amount of money as the PTT twin disc kit.
