Snowmobiles

Lets get a Style riding group together.

I usually head up north to ride but with so much snow this year in the metro, I'm looking for some new places to ride.

Jim

Polaris Edge XCSP 800 VES
Skidoo MXZ Renegade 800r Power T.E.K

Peter, Tom, Trevor, Kody, Kevin J, who else is up for some riding?

Re: Snowmobiles

I almost bought one at the auction last week, but it didn't include a trailer, and I'm not sure I can get on a riding trail directly from my house, so I didn't buy it. I wonder if it's safe to ride across the river, in which case we'd only be about a half mile away from each other. If I can get my hands on one, I'll let you know.

Nice, I just sold mine:(. Bought a 01 sentra for a daily, so now Im looking for a sled again but it may be a few weeks. Also Im off off 22 in linwood. Your more than welcome to unload at my house and hit the trails. LMk

Side note- January is pretty slow so if ya wanna get your flooring done.

Re: Snowmobiles

I posted over on evomn, Id go riding with you, I just need a trailer cause the one I have is buried in snow. I usually ride out of my folks house in the south metro, the trail system along the mississippi bluff (redwing, hay creek area) is just stellar if you dont mind coming this way. Otherwise, anyone have a way of getting me to the north metro, id be in for this.

Re: Snowmobiles

I can't ride out of Coon Rapids and honestly HWY65, Andover/Ham Lake area is just beat to piss from the enormous amount of traffic.

I have access to a trailer, its a 2 place and it's sitting in my driveway. :D

t-revzr 12-24-2010 10:59 AM

Re: Snowmobiles

I also have a 2 place trailer and now have 2 sleds :)

Re: Snowmobiles

I have a ride planned for Sunday, You are all welcome to come along for the ride.

The plan is to depart from Hastings going to Redwing then Haycreek and finally Cannon Falls. Around a 100 mile ride. Probably eat at Kings bar in Miesville for lunch. Have 3 guys already coming, all friends of mine. If you would like to go, text me or call 651-207-9861. The more that come along, the more fun these rides tend to be.

Hastings is about a hour trip from the farthest Northwest corner of the cities, but the trails are less beat then what you may expect on the north side. Trail consist of bluff riding with a combination of farm fields, tight tree groves paths, deep snow areas, and steep hill climbs. The snow depth varies right now from 30 to 15 inches of snow in most areas of the trails.

Shawn, I'm game! I'll talk to my brother in law tonight and see if he is up for a ride but I'll go for sure.

Trevor, will you be back in time for a ride Sunday? Shawn what time?

I might be down. Need to ask my buddy if he wants to go cause he has the trailer.

Re: Snowmobiles

Excellent Jim this should be a good time. Peter I hope ya can make it.

The plan is to meet @ 10:00 AM at my folks house @ 10800 180th ST. Hastings, MN 55033. The group will be leaving shortly after that. We will make one gas stop at about 5 miles into the ride so dont worry about topping off your tank.

Re: Snowmobiles

Is there an gas sations after that one?

simulatedwood 12-24-2010 07:34 PM

Re: Snowmobiles

Plenty of gas stations along the way if needed; no worries. :)

Re: Snowmobiles

is there a gas station every 20 miles or so cause I only have a 4 gallon tank?

simulatedwood 12-24-2010 10:22 PM

Re: Snowmobiles

Possibly, but I think you may need a backup plan just in case. 4 gallon would be ok for the trip to Red Wing/ Haycreek but you maybe stretching it for the trek from there to Cannon Falls. I know there are a couple gas stations along the way. See the trail map here: http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/maps/snowmobiling/map9.pdf to get an idea.

Yeah it runs on 93 and the timing turned down to -3 for riding on ditches.

Re: Snowmobiles

I live in Zimmerman and the state trail goes right over my driveway. They seem to groom it at minimum every 3 days and there are trails all over up here. Good amounts of snow here and I have 1 02 edge 600 with a 600ho motor, team clutch setup, 136" extension and am willing to have people park and go for a good days ride from here if wanted. Anyone interested for the Friday Saturday, or Sunday around new years?

95talonracer 12-25-2010 08:42 PM

Re: Snowmobiles

And Nate get a large tank for that thing. They sell ones that bolt on and extend under the seat or something and hold like 9 gallons or something. http://www.jspowersports.com/polaris_iq.htm

URV8SUX 12-25-2010 10:09 PM

Re: Snowmobiles

Yeah nathan over at jspowersports sold me a large tank that I had on my 2009 iqr but I will only ride off the track a few times so the little tank will work.

Here is this years sled.

Nice sled Nate!

Shawn, my brother in law and my cousin and I will meet up.with you at 10am. Ill text you on the morning. Should be a good time. 08 renegade 800r, 07 blizzard 800, and 06 f7 snopro.

Re: Snowmobiles

Race sleds are very nice but to high in maintenance. Was going to buy one till I found out there's a lot more then just turning the timing down and switching the heads for a real trail worthy sled. They talk about cutting the front suspension down, making grease points etc.. I wasn't going to do that this year maybe next year tho.. Any who sled looks awesome!

Re: Snowmobiles

Dang just saw this thread today! Went for a 60 miles 4 hour ride on Friday around somerset WI, decent trails there but I really hate city style driving, where you cross lots of roads and deal with towns.

Best riding so far ive ever done us up north past duluth and also around hayward Wi, all forest. Ill have to check out hastings and cannon falls. Maybe next weekend.

Its supposed to warm up next weekend, which would suck.

I plan to take 2 big trips this year, Hayward and Lutsen.

simulatedwood 12-27-2010 09:22 AM

Re: Snowmobiles

Thanks Jim, Matt D., Matt, Dan and Brandon for coming out on Sunday,

Trails were so-so, good in the morning, but lots of traffic hit us in the afternoon and made for a rough ride back. I think everyone had a good time. I know I did!

Only one sled died during the ride, luckly it happened right at the beginning, RIP ole 1989 El tigre' siezed engine.

So who wants to plan the next ride? I found someone who will loan me a trailer so I am game for some more rides for sure!

Shawn

P.s. Bummer you couldnt come along Peter, I agree the best riding is north past duluth and hayward Wi as well, some of the best riding I have ever done has been in those areas as well.

goodhart 12-27-2010 09:32 AM

Re: Snowmobiles

I want to get a decent sled for next year. Hopefully after I graduate in May I can find a decent job and get a newer Yamaha. Get a single trailer and pull that sucker behind the Evo!!! lol

Best riding I have ever done was in the UP of Michigan, after that it was all just MN riding, but there are some nice wide open trails up by Two Harbors, or if you are looking for something closer to the metro, Moose Lake area was fun also. This was all years ago when I had my sled though, it could have changed by now I suppose. I just hate the kidney busting ditch riding, I'll leave that to the 18 year old kids and the guys that think they are snocross racers lol

Re: Snowmobiles

Sorry i missed this, I was up north. We went riding on saturday on the Swampsiders trails in big fork/Cocheran trail for about 2.5 hours. and then on sunday ran the Taconite. One of our sleds the gas gauge wasnt reading right and i filled it up a bit before we left, it looked pretty full, but boy was i wrong. after doing about 45 minutes on the taconite we decided to turn around and head back to my parents, about 15 minutes on the ride back my sled ran out of gas. hahaha. So i had to take our other sled back to the gas station and pick up some gas and can. We were out for about 3.5-4 hours. hahah.
I really want to get a new sled soon, Really want a polaris Rush. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/da...123182337.html Talk about losing value fast, last year new these sleds were over 10k.

Re: Snowmobiles

Haha running out of gas on a long woods trail would suck!

Im down for the next run around the cities here, that would be a good time!

Im guessing this weekend the trails will be in crap shape, its supposed to rain thursday and friday. I might go fishing instead but well see, if it change to all snow, im game.

A pic from last friday:

Im going to bigfork this weekend.. How was the riding up there? I hear they are getting around 24 inches this weekend.. Ill prob hit the tacontie as well. Tom let me know when you go up next time so we can plan something!

Thanks Shawn for the invite! Just a great day of riding.

Trails were fast and smooth for half the day, the way back was a mix of smooth sections and bumpy sections but still didn't have a problem opening it up on the way back ;)

No bare areas, all snow so that was awesome! Would ride down there again in a heart beat.

The trails were awesome. Taconite was nice, not too busy, only saw maybe 4 groups. There was a section before 65 that was pretty much all ice, but other than that it was smooth sailing. Looks like they had been doing some logging around there but all in all good ride.
we are planning on going up the 2nd or third week in january.

You must be referring to the "beastly" 600 XC that MattD was taming. He got that big-block to fly through the air near the end of the ride!

Dont have a cabin I graduated in Grand Rapids. My whole dad's side lives up there. I usually stay with my dad, friends or at the girlfirends mom's house. But I know where scenic 7 is and have been down it but only on 4 wheelers. It's prob 10 to 15 mins away from my dads...

We should have a mitsustyle sled drag. Find some lake and have a path made and race like a dyno day. I will try to go next time. I need to find a truck and trailer.

Depends on what kind of sled your talking about but to just trail ride a race sled is not whether IMO!
