I *heart* snow
NOT...
When there is too much not to go anywhere, it isn't fun. The Galant was actually out for the first time last night and today. It wasn't even supposed to be out today but it was the only car that could make it out of the drive way. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6994059_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3520345_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3623796_n.jpg You can see the WG actuator and the o2 sensor wire here. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5790301_n.jpg notice the truck here? http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._2658201_n.jpg now here? Yeah...it got stuck....FUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuu http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...5_887062_n.jpg Anyways, how is your snow day going? |
Re: I *heart* snow
I was up at 8 or so, started clearing the driveway around 9:30, went to Caribou for some coffee at 10:30. The pile of snow at the end of the driveway easily doubled, it's now at my shoulder and was below my waist before today. The roommate's girlfriend just left for work and it looked like I hadn't even touched the driveway because of the drifting. Oh well, do it all again tomorrow.

Re: I *heart* snow
I'm going to shovel in a bit, seems like I'm the only person on my block that doesn't have a snowblower.
|
Re: I *heart* snow
im going to avoid it all by playing gran turismo all day, then worry about it tonight
|
Re: I *heart* snow
My brother used his ATV to clear the driveway earlier this morning, and it now looks like he never touched it. I'll spend my day playing games on ps3 and watching movies I think.

Been out blasting around in the snow in the new IX today;
Snow + EVO with some Good Winter Tires = Pure Joy! |
Re: I *heart* snow
We went to cub and walmart, went to visit my cousin and there street wasn't plowed almost came to a stop but made it.
Came home and took 10 mins to get up my driveway. We left the civic outside and there is a 1FT radius around of it with no snow and there is no snow buildup on it. I want to see the fight later and I have nothing to do all day because the only video game I have is GH world tour |

This is the best idea I had in a long time (f the scarf and hat). I was enjoying it this morning, but then the damn snow blower broke. Lost a part that connect the trigger up top to turn the auger on somewhere in the snow.... So now I'm trying to find a plow service to clear the driveway at some point tomorrow afternoon. Anyone know if Enes does this type of stuff anymore and is still around with a working number? |
Re: I *heart* snow
About to make the trek across town in a bit. Roads look to be decent from the bedroom window at least
|
Re: I *heart* snow
Roads are okay, I actually had more traction in the work truck this morning than the last delivery before I left.
I miss my car already. |
Re: I *heart* snow
Definitely came close to getting stuck twice in DT St Paul. One foot drifts and 5" ground clearance is okay if you never stop but those pesky stop lights. Grr.
I need beer. Fuck the no-Sunday sales shit in this state. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a.../liquorRun.jpg |
Re: I *heart* snow
Around here TRUCKS are getting stuck, there's noway I would trust my Evo with snow tires in this right now, but I made the trek fine this morning around 8AM in the Suby. The intersections this morning were so bad cars were stuck from plows creating huge piles in the middle of the road, the key was to hit it with ramming speed. Then I got to my GF's and had to shovel a fucking spot because there was like 14" of drift snow everywhere.
Also via startribune there's FIVE plows on the road until 2AM in the metro area... FIVE. Buses are pulled off the road, there was a lady stranded at radio shack when I was there getting something because her bus just stopped. It's fucking insane, there's snow which is fun and then there's this... this is just bullshit. |

Man you guys are getting dumped on. We were supposed to get some snow, but barely got shit. Not that i am complaining. The tech service for our install bay is based out of MN and they closed early due the conditions.

Re: I *heart* snow
ive got a pretty good snowblower and the standing snow in my driveway was deep enough to roll over the top by 2-3 inches, it has a 21 inch intake. and its still coming down.

http://cdn1.knowyourmeme.com/i/000/0...gif?1285817725 I dug my car and driveway out this morning, drove to work, had fun passing people today in the big ass truck I was driving, worked outside for 7 hours straight and drove back, dug my car out again and drove home and I never got stuck once. People are idiots. It's all about momentum and knowing where the road is, even if it's under three feet of snow. |
Re: I *heart* snow
I left about 1:20pm to hang out with a couple people in Burnsville, got there just over an hour later. Took just under an hour to get home. Roads are fine if you aren't an idiot and have a capable car. Lots of people stuck on exit/entrance ramps that weren't plowed, even trucks. Plenty of people that were stuck on 35E that appeared to have inexplicably driven off the road into the deep snow.
The only time I almost got stuck was on a street with snow well above the bottom of my car. I had to get out, clear the snow I was pushing in front of my car then I could get momentum to keep going. |

Re: I *heart* snow
Drove to Princeton today, played/drove around for a good hour or two and never even got close to getting stuck. Most roads in Princeton weren't plowed at all as of about 5:00, and I would say there was right around a foot of snow. Watched a couple clowns struggle for a good half hour to get a 90's jetta about a block down the road just to say screw it and go back home lol.
Vikings game was officially moved to Monday night because of the snow, the giants plane couldn't land and they are staying the night in Kansas city. I haven't seen this much snow since I was a kid, this is crazy. |
Re: I *heart* snow
Talon gets around with ease but the belt squeals a lot in the stuff thats higher than my ground clearance.

Re: I *heart* snow
Woooo love this crazy ass snow! This is how I remember the 90s up at the cabin. Epic snow storm!
Woke up this morning and was going to take ninas car to get remote start install in burnsville, yea cancelled that. haha Had to go to my rents for my neice birthday party but we also had to move ninas car downtown because of the snow emergency... Pain in the assss. So we decided to just take that to my rents. How I found it.. Dug the front out a little and the sides, then peeled out to the left and just kept going down the street, blew a stop sign drifted it to hennepin and on to the next pic. haha. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...7_282412_n.jpg Bombin around dtown after getting it free from my side road. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...58_45100_n.jpg After prolly the scariest ride ever in a car, we made it to my rents in bloomington. 35w wasnt too bad but the wipers were icing up badly and no one had their lights on, idiots. The exit ramps were all not plowed, and we got off on our exit at about 50-60 because I had to make it up the hill, that I couldnt even see. Drifted that intersection and plowed a foot of snow all the way to my rents. Woo FWD owns! NOT. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1578241_n.jpg Plowed my rents driveway then went to my grandparents via volvo suv with snow tires. Dont go in alleys that arent plowed, my dad didnt go fast enough and we bottomed out on a slight incline to the alley. Good times! http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/5...1012111527.jpg http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/9...1012111527.jpg Finally done digging out the grandparents driveway. Heres nina almost covered with a wall of snow. haha http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/8...1012111546.jpg Woo snow! |

Re: I *heart* snow
Got up at 7am and went to work. Came home at 5pm to 3 feet of snow in my driveway.
One of my neighbors was nice enough to snowblow half my driveway so my ol' lady could get her car off the street. I really wish I knew who it was. 2 more hours of shoveling and it was done Quote:

Re: I *heart* snow
My brother used his ATV to clear out the driveway at about noon yesterday and we spent another hour and a half clearing out the rest of the snow once it stopped and they plowed the street. It's hard to say exactly how much we got here because of the wind, but some drifts in my yard are over 3 feet deep.

Re: I *heart* snow
I had a good time pulling a magnum out of a snow drift in front of my house yesterday. My Cherokee with 4.5" of lift does pretty well for having nearly completely worn all terrain tires.
I wanted to go to the grocery store, didn't even shovel the end of my driveway, just got some speed going down my driveway and rammed through the snow. That was fun. My hitch was completely packed solid with snow, pretty funny. http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/7509/jeepsnow.jpg http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/3374/sdc10967u.jpg |

Re: I *heart* snow
the explorer never gets stuck. i love it. we left at 3:00 to go to a wedding at 5pm in st paul. My parents came down from big fork early saturday morning. When we left for the wedding we just took our time a bit, and saw lots of people stuck. Took 94 through Minneapolis, then to st paul, the 10th street exit looked as if it were competely missing, basically just ran through a bunch of snowbanks on the exit, made it no problem, none of the streets in St Paul were plowed, but that didnt stop the exploder. On cedar st someone got out and pushed them out. then made it to the wedding. In front of the building there was a Semi truck stuck that was hauling gas, as well as a bus. hahah. They had to come plow them out. On the way out of there i had to get out and push 3 people out. (one guy i pushed 3 times and he kept getting stuck, i was going to push him a forth time but decided to take another street instead, haha. poor guy.

Re: I *heart* snow
For you guys who were smart enough to stay indoors:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ya1HsNGdvU Except for getting stuck right off the bat, the Talon did pretty well considering it was plowing in many spots. Worst snow storm I've ever driven in. |

Preferrably though, I'd like a subaru or something that is real AWD, but jacked up with a skid plate along the entire underside. So if you hit a big pile of snow, you just slide right over it. |
Re: I *heart* snow
I didnt have any trouble at all in my dodge with 33"x12.50 tires 2wd is a no go with big tires, but 4x4 is a whole different animal. I let my gf drive this for safety reasons lol. My jimmy on the other hand, while i didnt get stuck my 4x4 isnt working the greatest as it seems the previous owner put a few different size tires on the front so the transfer case binds on it self :KANE: :guns:

Re: I *heart* snow
I think its funny that everyone with evos or subis with snow tires thinks they cant get stuck. Sure if you stay on the beaten trail you wont get stuck but venture into some deeper chunkier packed 15"+ stuff and you will get stuck. :) And you will probably rip off your under trays doing so.
A 4x4 truck with good tires is the best bet due to its lift. Anything that drags in the snow or gets its underbody on top of the snow is going to get stuck. |
Re: I *heart* snow
My 2005 Tahoe with Goodyear Ultra Grip SUV tires would be hard to get stuck, I agree on the clearance part, the AWD DSM's tear through snow until they get hung up. Plus you constantly have to clean the front or you will over heat.
Having a Posi Rear end and a good LSD in the front helps a ton in that crap, no two wheel peel in 4wd for me. I was plowing snow up to the grill and it didn't even spin a tire. My in-laws Suburban was the same way. Good tires + 4wd + Ground Clearance = Get around good. You take any one of those away and your are going to have some trouble. |
