Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
That's right, picked up this gem within a couple of weeks of getting home in may.
153k miles. 2.3 4 cyl, 8 spark plugs, 2wd. After tune up 25-26 mpg with tonneau cover. That's right its gold and a '89 - gotta love the 80s: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._2281493_n.jpg I don't know if it does 85mph. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._7809469_n.jpg Shits clean, and gets approved by the other B-man. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1781259_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1978818_n.jpg That's it for now. I'll snap a pic with the tonneau cover i got, and I'm gonna see if these extra set of DSM wheels will fit. The bolt pattern is the same I just have to see if the center bore is. |

Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
lol, very nice.
So, these rangers come with a sweet trans that tends to leak, in my attempt to fix the leak I have ended day 1 with a ranger in pieces, O'reillys had a rear output shaft seal, but the shaft diameter was way bigger than stock and even the guy at the counter said he thought it would leak, napa didn't list a part, north country ford said one didn't exist anymore, the first person i called and talked to at Apple Valley Ford said it would be tuesday, I called them back a few hours later and they will get me one tomorrow for under $20. I grabbed some small metal freeze plugs to put in the trans, there are 3 rubber plugs on teh top of the trans right below the shifter that tend to leak, if they are the right size, i'll punch in the new plugs, if they aren't I'll probably RTV the old ones as I have been told that works well, but the metal plugs are the end all fix. Pics maybe tomorrow, its getting cold out time to fire up whats left of my little torpedo heater. I talked to the local harley store and they have some 4'x6' boxes about 1" thick they will let me have to lay on my garage floor, guy said it was a neat idea and just said let them know when I get there and I can have what I want. |

Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
I think this ranger will be for sale in the next year or so, I'm just gonna keep it clean.
I figured by the time I did all this swap crap to it I could probably finish my DSM and get a nice death trap/econo box to daily. Plan: drive ranger for 1-2 yrs, hopefully have money, but death trap & full size pickup for when I need to do work, live happily ever after and buy more crap. |
Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
SO its looks like I will be selling the danger ranger and getting a civic of some kind because I will be travelling a lot more for work and I'll need something better on gas (35-40 mpg range) compared to the 25-26mpg, plus I dont do too much in the winter.
|
Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
how much are you selling it for?
Just to share danger ranger Here is mine 1981 ford F350 with 400 engine http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...1009101627.jpg http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...1009101654.jpg http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...1009101625.jpg And yes, it actually says ranger on the side with the F350 |

Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
So..... a little update.
Tried to find a nice little civic, got 2 lemons so I said screw that headache. Did the good ol' cardboard/winter mod to the ranger and it's doing a lot better, my financial plans will have me owning the ranger for about 2-3 more years at least so as with all my cars I will do a little something to it. The list is: -Tint (walmart +me = hopefully a win) - right now its like being in a fish tank its weird. -Get rid of clutch fan and get an electric fan, not only will this help with MPG, but also heating up faster and maintaining a constant running temp. -Intake, this is just something to make since i do have a welder. -Seats, the seats in that thing are pretty worn out and if you are a hunchback they would be awesome, right now I have some $15 walmart lumbar support thing that seems to do the trick, but if a cheap option presents itself I will snatch it up. -Get rid of the cat, this helps with the low end torque (owner feedback). I'm not sure about this one depends how much of a pain it will be. -stereo, one of the speakers are blown, it doesn't have any rear speakers or speaker covers right now. I think I will just get some for the doors and leave the rears out, I think after I get the tint done I might consider a HU upgrade (one out of the talon) Oh, and I guess I will be back with pics of the interior because I didnt get a good pic of the woodgrain!! |

Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
my 2c:
get a really nice set of electric fans. I cheaped out at first on my jeep when I eliminated the Stock clutch fan, and the cheapies couldn't keep the car cool enough in stop/go traffic or at a dead stop. Get a quality adjustable thermostat fan controller. |
Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
^Thanks for that.
I already put on the electric fan and adjustable setup and the truck will run a lot hotter on longer drives, 45min+. The truck feels a lot better, it doesn't feel heavy and lazy like it used to. But I will need to get a better fan for it I think. I also got the windows tinted 35% all around, I forgot it was a truck and I could of done darker in the back, but for $100 oh well. I also put in some nice, well they were nice polk audio speakers. I put a hole in each of them, which hasn't harmed the sound quality that I can hear, but well they will be forever beater car speakers. |
Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
mind posting some pics or some info on the setup? What fan controller did you use?

Re: Project: DANGER Ranger!!!
