Finally got my Evo

Well, some of you already know, some don't, but yesterday afternoon I picked up a 2006 Evolution IX MR with 44k miles on it.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...788f5c3d_b.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...64e648db_b.jpg

The car got tuned on Friday from Ron @ RS. It made 317 HP and 336 TQ on his mustang dyno, I figure that should be right around the 300-310 mark at DB. I'm not gonna get into any bench racing though...

Mods When I got it:

-Intake (Injen tube/Amsoil filter)
-Injen hard intercooler pipes
-Invidia 3" Turboback exhaust w/ test pipe
-Exedy HD Twin Disk clutch
-Blitz Electronic boost controller (this will eventually be going away in place of a DB MBC)
-Swift spec-R springs on stock Bilsteins (perfect combo OMG)
-Solid shifter bushings
-GReddy Turbo Timer
-Good old 92 octane pump gas
-It also has this GFB "Deceptor pro" box, I looked it up and it was for a Go-Fast Bits electronically controlled BOV. This car has a IX BOV right now, so it must be leftover from a previous owner.

Mods as of 1/17/11:

-Injen intake
-Injen upper intercooler pipe
-Injen lower intercooler pipe
-Invidia 3" Turboback exhaust w/ test pipe
-Exedy HD Twin Disk clutch
-Blitz Electronic boost controller (this will eventually be going away in place of a DB MBC)
-Walbro 255HP
-Swift spec-R springs on stock Bilsteins (perfect combo OMG)
-Shifter base bushings
-GReddy Turbo Timer
-Good old 92 octane pump gas
-AEM analog wideband gauge
-AEM analog 35psi boost gauge
-MAPerformance mini battery

Next:
OBX FMIC
Megan Racing O2 housing
FIC BluMax 1350cc injectors

Also, Brembo's aren't faded and neither is the CF portion of the wing. :D

I do have a short list of things I would like to do sooner rather than later.

1) The shifter feels kind of spongy at times in 1st gear, I talked to Ron at RS about this since he just tuned the car on friday, and he adjusted the shifter cables, but thinks they may need replacing. From what I found in a quick search, they only cost like $90, but sounds like they may be kind of a PITA to install. I already knew about this, and Ron has worked on the car before (he installed clutch) and he said 100% this is what it is. I'm really not worried at all.

2) De-wing/de-badge the trunk. I want to do this right, so I will either buy a already de-winged apex silver trunk, buy a silver lancer trunk (If the colors match up, I haven't looked into that yet) or get a spare trunk to use while mine gets the holes filled

3) The onwer previous to the guy I bought it from also had a big system in the car and he decided to leave all his wiring behind. That shouldn't be too hard to get it all back out, at least he this way I know the job will be done the right way.

4) Drive this sucker and enjoy it!!! This car is an absolute hoot to drive coming from the Auto WRX. I love being back in a manual transmission car, that WRX was the first Auto I had ever owned and I kind of hated it after about the first year or so of owning it. Reverse may take a while to get used to with the 6 speed, but that's no biggie. Other than that, I just plan on enjoying this car!!

NOOOOOOOOO! I just can't get into the wingless look for either these or the WRX's. I should buy all these wings and sell them back to you fools in a couple of years at 5x the price.

Very nice car, great choice!

hehe. I've seen too many videos of what happens with aggressive driving in the triple-digits. Most of the wingless crowd doesn't road course so it probably won't matter.

For a little while at least. Like I was telling John last night, I want to 1) get some decent dyno numbers, 2) take it to the track for a time slip 3) take down a few particular St. Cloud cars, then it's getting a for sale sign. That way I can put that money towards the loan, and re-finance for more mod money for the Evo :D

^^exactly. The wings add 200/lbs of downforce at 100mph, but How often will I be going over 100mph? Not much in reality, and if anything it will be auto-x'ed a little bit, probably not road course for a while. Plus, if I find a Lancer trunk or something, I can keep this one around till I feel like having a wing.

Looks great, but keep the wing! A wing is what truly makes an Evo IMO.

Re: Finally got my Evo

I'm not sure if you remember but I have a set of six speed cables if you wanna try that them out. Trans shifted really smooth on the bench. On the car, I had a bit of trouble adjusting the cables so it would shift to all the gears.

Kracka 09-26-2010 07:01 PM

Re: Finally got my Evo

Are the metal underhood shifter bushings binding? Might want to remove them and lube them up. This seems to be pretty common, especially with the aluminum bushings (AMS, Buschur, etc.).

Ooh. Yes. I believe you and Jim have a set of cables. Whomever can get them to me soonest wins, cause the binding is getting worse :(

I'll just replace them and lube the crap out of the bushings at the same time then.

Also, the little "MR" thing or whatever it is is missing off the top of the shift knob, Going to mitsu tomorrow to get a new one.

Nice car dude, and +1 on keeping the wing, sure it looks sleeper like but it also looks like a base model lancer. To each his own, your going to drive it in the winter? Donuts..;)

You know it!!

Funny you mention that, I was just talking to Kerry (95talonracer) today about the car and he asked if I was going to try to keep the miles off of this thing. I told him as much as I would like to, this thing is waaay too much fun to let sit and collect dust!! It's a car, and it's meant to drive! I still can't believe how much fun this car is!

Picked up some known good 6 speed shift cables from Ron yesterday after the car left me stranded and stuck in...I think 3rd gear?...Either way, it was too high of a gear to get home in where I was at, so I already got my first tow

So I put the new cables in, which was pretty straight forward, take out the center console, take out battery and tray, then unhook cables and tug. What a PITA it was though, Ron told me it would take ~3 hours or so, I think it took me 3.5 hours with some help. Car now gets into all the gears, but 1st and 2nd are still a bit notchy, I'll need to adjust it some more. So thanks Ron for the cables and thanks Dave for helping me finish things up.

Re: Finally got my Evo

Well, I had some fun with the car this weekend. Saturday I dyno'ed at the dyno day and made 334/342 then did some good testing and comparing :D
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1286218248

Today (Sunday) I crushed the BOV just for something to do, de-badged the car, and took off the wing to see how I like it. So far...not bad. I just used some white vinyl I had to cover the holes for now. Tomorrow I will be installing some Kracka Vents, and looking for a cheap dual chamber catch can for the setup I have planned out.

Here are a couple crappy ass pics:

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00240.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00241.jpg

Still to do for visual mods:

Tint front windows to match rear (They look like 50%)
Tint tail lights
Eventually get BBS's powder coated semi gloss black.

I am still up in the air whether or not to put on the RPF1's from the Talon on once they get some good tires....I'm sure I'll try it out in the spring and see how they look.
