I tell you what, girls ask you questions about cars and force you to explain them to you. But if you dont know the answer they get all mad, let alone whats worse is that they beg you to keep telling them, its like please just STFU so i can tell you. I mean when someone asks you what is torque and what is HP. What does this do(points to engine) its like WOW how am i gonna explain this. I just told her what i thought about what torque was and the imaginary number we call Horse Power.

I love the ever-so-common "Why is your car still running?"
I always try to sound shocked that they think my car is still running. I've got loud exhaust and like others you can hear me comming from a few blocks away. That usually takes peoples minds off the main question though so it's all good. |
I get asked what is the whosssh nose (RFL turboxs).. Best to say it normal..
Actually i think i get more of the "OMG your car is sexy as hell wanna mess around in it?" |
I always get the glazed over look when someone has no idea what you're talking about when it comes to explaining anything about cars. I've learned to dumb it down to the preschool level, it keeps people more interested.
Nothing bores a girl more than a mathematical explanation of the relationship of horsepower and torque. Just tell them they are always equal at 5252 rpms, that'll keep them happy for a while. |
Everyone keeps wondering why my car turns itself off. I say because it is smart and walk away.

I like messing around with the people that think they know some stuff about cars....for instance theres this kid in my college class thats just dumber then a box of rocks....(im in the deisel tech class at centery college rebuild engines and turbo's and stuff...) so one day were all standing around one of the motors we have been working on and turbo's come into the convo. so we start acting dumb....lol this one kid that is standing next to us is thinking he knows a lot about them hahaha. well we told him that a t/4 turbo replaces the muffler on a car and that the t/3 only replaces the cat. well he bought the whole thing.... I couldnt believe that he thought that was the truth we rag on him everyday now haha. :stick: I also have loud exhaust....but people can hear me coming i guess i've been told a few miles away.... its just and open 3inch manderal bent d/p..... :jammin:

some people try to make you think they know a lot. Last weekend (or the week before) Iceman, 92tsiawd84 and I were at shepard and a kid was trying to tell us that his friend has 490 whp on his 2g with a stock motor and some stage 3 FP turbo. :liar: I called his BS and he still tryied to convice me that he was telling the truth.
|
It was 499 wheel horsepower, stock engine, and a 12.3 quarter mile time. BTW, the gut was driving a piece of shit old minivan. He had a 97 gsax at home :slap: .

The other day I got someone yelling at me saying... "are you stupid, they never made a 4wd (meaning awd) eclipse"..... it was from a guy yelling at me when he know that I knew more about cars than any other person in the class... I had to TRY to keep from roleing on the floor wile I was lmao at him.
|
The never did make a 4WD eclipse foo...
4WD = no limited slip AWD= limited slip in the back Atleast thats how i think it is... |
AWD, 4WD... Who cares! Either way all 4 wheel have power.

From what I am told 4WD vehicles don't put power to all four wheels at the same time. Typically it is only like your front driver and rear passenger wheels getting force. Only when the car senses that either of those two wheels are slipping, then power goes to all four to pull it out. Now another common misconception is that 4WD will save your ass, not always true. Most 4WD vehicles can't fully operate that system over 45 mph and will only continue to be a diagonally driven 2WD vehicle, even under a slipping conditions. Now new Silverados and such have made their systems capable of this at any speed.
So in reality you want an AWD system over 4WD, and this is why I see a bunch of housewives in their pre '03 Tahoes and Expeditions in the ditch during winter.. Ha serves them right... Now this is just what I have been told and kind of know, don't quote me... |
Sounds good to me...that's why I have AWD!! :D
All Wheels Driving All the time lol |
90-91's didn't have limited slip.
|
You sure about that?

Also with ours we technically have 3WD. Both rears and one of the fronts have the power. Eventually all four get the power but not right away.
I love the "Do you know your car is still running" question from people that are not in the "know". I always tell them "it'll shut itself off when it runs out of gas." They get a blank look in their face for a few seconds. Some ask "Really?" while some just laugh it off. Then I explain why it's still running. |
AWD DSM's use the viscous (not vicious) coupler to keep power going to both the front and rear wheels at the same time. The rear LSD keeps power at both rear wheels, the front diff is open and could allow one of the front wheels to spin unless you install a LSD or other type of locking diff at the front.
We do get power to all 4 wheels under power as long as one of the front wheels doesn't start breaking traction. |

Although Chevy and Ford did make some trucks in the late 70's-early 80's that were fulltime four wheel drive. You could switch between 4-LO and 4-HI but not 2WD. Most new trucks now have shift-on-the-fly 4wd. Beats the hell out of stopping, getting out and locking in the front hubs and then moving along. And then to take it back out having to unlock the hubs, shift into 2wd, backup until you heard a "click" and then proceeding forward. |
