E85 Blends
I thought I would post this link for anybody running e85 regarding winter/summer blends
http://www.e85mustangs.com/regions123.html |
Re: E85 Blends
Good info! I'm moving to arizona or florida below 29 latitude!
|
Re: E85 Blends
Can anyone tell me if the good blend is out yet, and where to find it?? Im trying to get my car tuned on monday, but i would like to do it on the good blend. Unless it doesnt make a difference??
|
Re: E85 Blends
I'm guessing it's still e70 here, but that's all I've ever been tuned on, it's still awesome. I wouldn't worry about getting a specific e85 tune vs e70, at least for a daily driver.
|
Re: E85 Blends
The easiest way to do it is to tune it with the best blend, then let it run rich when it goes back to the crappy blend.
|
Re: E85 Blends
It'll be more prone to knock with the winter blend though if you get it tuned on the summer blend. It seems like the few gas stations I've asked don't always follow a calendar or a timeline. If they don't sell a ton of e85 in the summer/spring, they aren't going to swap it out/order more until most of its gone. I would assume the same goes for winter blend.
|
Re: E85 Blends
You might knock on the worse blend though, it you are tuned to the edge on the best blend. It runs richer, because they are adding in more crap gas, so it's going to be lower octane than the good blend.
Most of the stations around here were E70 until the end of May, I can test the ethanol content, if you bring in some samples. |

Re: E85 Blends
Someone was telling me about some place south of town that sells Actual E85, E98 and other race fuels, by the barrel too. Might be worth checking into if your looking for it, Otherwise unless your running over 30psi I doubt you would have knock issues even with E70 anywase.

Re: E85 Blends
I was going to look into it, but I don't have a place to keep it. My friend might though.
Please let us know if you find out where. I figured some co-op. |

Re: E85 Blends
Ive been testing ethanol content with this,
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/QFT-36-E85/ Anybody else test e85 ethanol content? Ive been reading 60% everywhere with this tool! |
Re: E85 Blends
60%? Shit, I better write to the state about this, the pumps say minimum 70% ethanol!
I should have found out what % alcohol I was running when tuned in April. |
Re: E85 Blends
I used one of those the whole time I ran e85. I've been hearing of lots of people reading super low as well...
|
Re: E85 Blends
Man that's garbage. At what percent does E85 because equivalent or similar to 93 octane pump gas?

I'll have to get a clean sample of E98 from John to validate the tester. |
Re: E85 Blends
If anyone wants to bring some samples to the dyno day, I have a digital tester we can test them with.
|
Re: E85 Blends
I will bring a sample.. I need to get my Zentronix ECA hooked up!
|
Re: E85 Blends
FFS 62%?
|
Re: E85 Blends
I will try to bring one as well.
|
Re: E85 Blends
62% doesn't meet the EPA's requirements for E85 so my initial thoughts are to verify the accuracy of the testers since they could face huge fines, plus it just doesn't make sense economically to blend at that level.

Re: E85 Blends
I have heard of multiple people having low readings from all over the place, I don't think its the testers. Weren't there a lit of low ass numbers at b4b too? Maybe this crappy e85 could be why? E70 to e85 made like a 15-20 HP difference on my Evo.
|
Re: E85 Blends
maybe this is why mine only put down 407 and 355 a few weeks after my initial tune, same boost, same timing who knows
|
Re: E85 Blends
I tested e85 at the Kwik Trip in Shakopee (Near Walmart), Holiday at 169 and 41, and at my hometown Kwik Trip in Belle Plaine, they were all at low 60%.
I also tested the e85 at the local Cenex in Belle Plaine and found its was about 50%! |
Re: E85 Blends
Looks like this isn't being regulated well. Gas is cheaper than ethanol, so the lower percentage there is in the gas, the more money someone is making. Just have to figure out who the "someone" is that is messing things up!

Re: E85 Blends
Yea, the 10% ethanol blend is actually cheaper than the non E10 gas here in Iowa. E85 is still under $3.00 as well. I'll have to get one of those testers to see what Kum & Go has for a percentage right now (main chain that sells E85 here).

Re: E85 Blends
Corborns Belle Plaine e85 ethanol content, 70% woohoo!

Re: E85 Blends
So does everyone constantly change their tunes for the mixed blend?
Or is everyone's numbers changing purely because the mix changes and in turn the AFRs? |
Re: E85 Blends
Just the mix and AFR's mostly. With my Evo the car was tuned on E70 for around 11.2-11.3 AFR, but when the full blend got to the pumps, it would lean itself out to about 12.2-12.3. On my car it was about a 20 HP/TQ difference

Re: E85 Blends
Shane tested fuel from my rail yesterday on the dyno - 72%. Came from the Holiday downtown minneapolis by the twins stadium.
|
Re: E85 Blends
Where do you get these testers?
Since '06 i've never tested it, just tune rich on the shitty stuff or tune good on the E85 and let it get rich as the blend gets weaker. Would it make tuning easier? |
Re: E85 Blends
Well, you would know what you're dealing with at least I guess. Buschnuts has them on his website for like $15. Seems to be about the going rate. I have one also, but its packed away with all my shit in the storage unit I think.

Re: E85 Blends
no locals sell it?
