LingLing's Project Thread
Okay, so I guess here's the start of a long project thread.
As of tonight, I have the Symborski bushing kit and the Speed Source shift cable bushing set on the way. The next order of business is the wheels. Most of you know I bought those Lexus rims off of Kevin when I bought the car. I like them because they're just a simple 5 spoke design. I'm also looking in to getting a center cap that sits flush with the face of the rim. I have been going back and forth about whether to paint them or leave them chrome. If I were to paint them (Or powdercoat), I'd do them in flat black or a darker gunmetal. I cleaned one up them up and snapped a few photos. http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/a...7/100_1481.jpg http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/a...7/100_1482.jpg The only thing that's changed on the car so far is the exhaust, which is the 3" APEX'i N1 http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/a...7/PICT0067.jpg Nothing serious yet as I don't exactly know what route I want to take yet. It'll for sure be on e85 with a bigger turbo. Just haven't figured out the details yet. |
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Love the rims! Will you put them on the car first before you decide to paint them? If so I wanna see the pics! :)

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
very nice!

I gotta get new tires, extended studs, wheel spacers and open ended lug nuts but hopefully they'll be on in a few weeks. |
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
put it on E85 first then worry about a bigger turbo, u will shit your pants on E85

I think you'll like the chrome. Black rims are everywhere now. :)

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Well I can't say I like the exhaust. IMO, you should have kept the Thermal on there. As I've said before, there's already solid bushings on the trans end of the cables, and I still have the bushings for the base if you still want them. I agree with getting it tuned on E-85. That thing would be a beast with that turbo and about 30 psi.
|
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
What turbo is on it? Do you have enough fuel system to even support a big turbo on E85? Big turbos aren't always what they are cracked up to be, unless you have a drag car or can rev the motor really high.
|
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
You've been hanging around Swifty too much. That car has plenty left in it, put E85 in there with beg enough injectors and fuel pump then decide if you want a bigger turbo. Like Shane said, big turbos aren't everything.

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
here is the list of what kevin and I did to his old car. this is what was in it when it was sold
DSM Link V2 FIC 950cc injectors EvoIII 16g with a ported exhaust housing Ported 2g exhaust manifold Custom Tial 38mm external wastegate setup routed back into o2 housing Magnus sheet metal intake manifold Aeromotive A1000 fuel pressure regulator HKS 272 cams 8.5:1 JE pistons Eagle H-beam connecting rods arp head studs mitsu composite HG ACL Race bearings (mains and rods) balance shaft delete wally 255 |
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Well, I was going to use the extra cash I have for an e85 tune from Shane, but the transmission decided to take a dump on me in the taco bell drive-thru, so I'll be using what cash I have left to get a new transmission swapped in. Not how I wanted to spend the money, but shit happens.
Just have to wait for Uncle Sam to get me my tax return. |
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
gheey,
E85 then big turbo but with a built motor and E85 and a sheetmetal it should be all u need |

Since the transmission and transfer case will be out and getting new fluid I'll be changing the rear diff fluid as well. Hopefully I get my tax return and track a transmission down in the next week or two. Hoping to have it back up and running in a few weeks. |

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Those are some good numbers! Was that on e85?
|
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Sucks about the tranny. What happened?
|
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
of course pump numbers were 210/192ish
|
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Id say your injectors are good for around 320hp with e85. A rough estimate in my head says you will be around 80% duty cycle with 950's at 290hp. Max they could pump is around 350-360 at 100% duty cycle. This is at base fuel presure of 37.5. Id say you have plenty of room with your injectors.

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Wait you have 950s?
Then WTF are u worrying about thats what I have and I am not even close, you have nothing to worry about. Black is right, i say let er buck you will have more fun trying to get more boost than worrying about fuel with a 16G and 950s. |

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
And that's weird about the tranny popping out of 5th, then blowing it out of the cover. I can't say I've heard of that happening before and it never popped out of 5th for me.

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Yeah, Shitty timing on it happening for you, but I'm glad you're getting it sorted out.
|
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
if you want to fix the tranny I still have alot of parts from the parts tranny on the shelf. also have the case
|
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
The nut that holds 5th gear on can work its way loose, and then worse case scenario fall off or something. I guess a symptom is popping out of fifth.
What route are you going with the tranny? |
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Hes picking up another this weekend and Im going to inspect it and swap thru shafts for the t-case if needed.

I guarantee that's what happened Ling Ling. Here is a pic of that same nut from my 1st tranny. Except in mine, the nut actually sheared right off with a piece of the shaft still in it. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0279.jpg |
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Also, if you have 950cc injectors and a Walbro 255HP, you have plenty of injector and fuel pump. Here is a video of a buddy of mine's setup (95tsi on here) And he has quite a few more mods than you on an E316G and E-85. He is on 880cc injectors and made 347HP and 361TQ.

When the transmission is out I'll be be doing the fuel pump rewire and addressing some of the small stuff. There's still a hefty exhaust leak from between the manifold and turbo, so a gasket is definitely in store. Also, the VC gasket is starting to seep a little, and it seems pretty wet by the oil pan too. Overall it'll be a good time to get a lot things done. |
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
Figured while I have some time I'd actually try to get something done on the car. So I relocated my wideband to a more visible spot. I didn't like how I had to physically look down to see it when I'm driving.

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
^That spot is way worse IMO, I like looking at the gauge cluster in one glance see everything I need, but whatever u like.
I can't believe you are underestimating E85. |

I no longer underestimate the power of e85. I've been doing some serious reading and now I know I was short changing the potential of it. No further mods until I max out the e316g! Thanks to everyone who opened my naive eyes to power of e85! |
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
I told you so Ling Ling! 16G FTW! Untill you get use to it again :(
|
Re: LingLing's Project Thread
yeah, e85 is no joke...it will seriously make you laugh because of the gains :D. My cousin with a 2000 WRX RS w/ the ver.7 sti swap went from, IIRC, 280 awhp to around 340awhp from just switching to e316g+e85+tune. that car seriously goes. did i mention he did that with the e316g?!! i want a ride when you go ethanol!

Re: LingLing's Project Thread
ITS GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AS WELL! Dont listen to those ppl that whine about fuel economy :) Youll Be Kickn it Green N Sidewayz Yoo ;) Mad Powwwaa!

If you think that, you are either seriously retarded, or haven't read anything about the process in which it takes to make E-85 |
