e85 FAQ?

Anyone know where I can find a FAQ on E85 conversion for an Evo? I did a search and I don't wanna ask redundant question :D

I found one on Evolutionm.net but that was for an Evo X. Anyone know where I can find information for an Evo VIII?

Re: e85 FAQ?

Have you joined evomn.net yet? If not you really should. Thats where you will get alot more info on evo stuff from all the local evo owners.

Re: e85 FAQ?

All you need is more fuel. Bigger injectors and a walbro 255HP for stock to medium sized turbos. Huge injectors and more fuel pump for big turbos.

Re: e85 FAQ?

It's pretty simple actually: Walbro 255, larger injectors, and a reflash ;)

Edit: Whoa triple post! lol

Re: e85 FAQ?

And for tuning pretty much ignore your knock sensor because you can usually add way too much timing before seeing knock. Knock just isn't very useful for tuning E85 unlike pump gas; yes you still log it just in case of an issue. You need to either dyno or log and estimate hp (road dyno) to get your timing just right.

To get the fueling right, I just divide the injector comp by 1.4 to change it to E85 and it works out pretty well.

Re: e85 FAQ?

isnt e85 corrosive?

if so, the walbro is can withstand the corrosives?

What would larger injectors be considered? 1000cc?

e85 screw with a wideband? aem ugeo?

Re: e85 FAQ?

E85 is not corrosive.

Re: e85 FAQ?

1000s would good for stock turbos. E85 is not very corrosive, methanol is very corrosive. I haven't seen any Walbro failures from E85. E85 is easy on O2 sensors, unlike leaded race gas.

Re: e85 FAQ?

I have 1000cc's and I have made 458 wheel at RS motors at 90% IDC. I have been running e85 for about 20k and have no problems with my fuel pump or and fuel lines.

Re: e85 FAQ?

Oh sweet! Alright so lets say i change my gas, and injectors, Do i need to do something before I limp it to Shane for a tune?

Or is there a way i can tune it a little before i bring it there just so it is safe when driving for about 20 miles?

Re: e85 FAQ?

Just drive to db with no under a 1/4, bring some e85 in a container and have shane put the injectors in.

Re: e85 FAQ?

If you have a reflash cable, I can send you a basemap to get you up and running.

This. Then make sure you run a few tanks through the car before the tune and you'll be good to go :D

I say get PTE 1000's if you plan on staying on the stock turbo, or FIC1250's if you ever plan on upgrading. There are quite a few people running E85 for years on end around here with great results. Just stay on top of the tune, scout out E85 locations near you, and consider the change in seasons, you'll be good to go.

Re: e85 FAQ?

Well, I plan on upgrading to Evo 9 turbo sooner or later. When I get back from Florida, I am going to do timing belt and I have GSC S1 cams so maybe I should get a reflash cable, throw some new injectors in and get it decent before I bring it there?

PTE injectors a good injector? I noticed in the "modding your evo 100$ at a time" thread, you guys mentioned FIC being a good fit?

Kracka 02-17-2010 12:44 PM

Re: e85 FAQ?

With the stock turbo why not run a bit smaller like the 850's?

I personally like FIC injectors; they're reasonably priced and have never given me any problems.

Shane@DBPerformance 02-17-2010 12:48 PM

Re: e85 FAQ?

850s running E85 on my dyno will be maxed around 340awhp.

Most of the E85 cars I tune either have the PTE 1000s or the FIC 1250s.

Kracka 02-17-2010 12:50 PM

Re: e85 FAQ?

Ahh ok, looking at my IDC's on pump gas I would have figured they had more in them.

Re: e85 FAQ?

Im on pte 1000's. But might be sellin them because of my bigger turbo.

Re: e85 FAQ?

Does e85 need a lot of tuning and screwing with? I think I might pick up a tactrix cable later tonight.

What is this Tactrix OpenPort 2.0? Do I need that?

That's the interface between your laptop and the ECU. It works out of the box with the Evo X and you plug in the Mitsu adapter for any of the older Evos. If you buy the kit then it comes with everything, including Subie adapters.

Save yourself some money and buy the 1.3 cable for $130 from EvoScan or $70 from Keydiver (if he has any in stock yet).

Are these people or are these companies with websites?

Does MAP have these same products/prices?

Check on evom, they might have a used cable for sale. I bought one for 50 last year from a local guy.

Re: e85 FAQ?

I'm at 370hp at DB, 414 at Modern on 750's; I then turned up the boost a bunch more with no fuel issues. My cousin is about 90hp less than me with 680's.

How do the e85 folks deal with the changing fuel for different seasons?

I have been considering an e85 conversion..

Wideband gauge is my basic tool. If I start noticing my WOT wideband readings are changing, then time for some tweaking!!

I still have one of those ethanol gauges sitting in a cabinet. I should install that thing someday.

It's not really a big difference. I don't thing I even notice an AFR difference, and I run full open loop.

Re: e85 FAQ?

I also don't change the tune. I believe have always been tuned with the E70 stuff, so it just leans out a tiny bit in the summer, no big deal because it's even higher octane.

TalonFiero 02-19-2010 10:39 PM

Re: e85 FAQ?

I also don't change my tune for the season. Runs richer in the winter leans out for a bit more power in the summer. Leave it at 31-34psi all year round, I'm so lazy and my Evo has been so good to me.

3500+ gallons of E85 so far and 3 straight years 55000 miles on the good stuff
