Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

There's a group forming to do some go-karting on Feb 21st from 4-7pm at the Burnsville location.

"ProKART auto enthusiasts heats meet. $30 a head, each driver gets 2 practice rounds, and a guarantee 2 heat races. Assuming enough drivers, a last chance qualifier and main event race. Would basically take 45 min per 10 people."

Ron @ RS Motors is organizing.

Gonna be a good time! Great pricing too since renting the place for an hour is typically $50-60 a person for 10 people.

Thanks for posting this Michael.

If you guys have time, come out and join us. Right now we have the time slot from 4-7 pm. Prokart says they can handle 40 plus people for this time slot.
Group discount is normally limited to 9-10 people but I wanted to have a bigger group. Then I was told to get as many as I can.
They have a new race set up that they are gonna try with our group.
I think it'll be alot of fun.

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

Hey Folks! This is Greg from ProKART Burnsville.

First off, I want to take this chance to thank Ron from RS Motors personally for doing all the leg work on this, and getting so many people together for this event! The guys over at evomn have a lot of people coming so far.

Since we are looking like were going to have such a good turnout, I deffinatly am excited to try our new Sunday Showdown format. And since this is a test run for this format for us, I can offer you guys a discount!

So here's the scoop:

ProKART Indoors Racing
Sunday Showdown Series

Registration begins at 3:30pm
(must be registered by 4:15 to race)
Practice begins at 4:00pm
Heat races begin at 5:00 pm
Final race at 6:45 pm

only $30.00
each driver is guarenteed two practice sessions
and two or three races (depending on points)

Details of event:
At registration, all drivers will be required to weigh in. ProKART will use these weights to determine the most competitive weight for the evening. Round one of practice will not utilize the weight system on the karts, allowing ProKART staff time to calculate the appropriate weight. Round two of practice will be weighted, to give racers a chance to adjust to the ballast.

Racers will be placed into each heat randomly. Starting orders will also be random, but ProKART will ensure no driver starts last or first for both races. Points will be earned based on finishing order.

The final race will be determined by taking the top drivers in the points standings. There also may be a LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) race. The number of racers in these races depends on the total number of participants.

The final race will have a random invert, determined immediately before the final race. All points will be doubled for the final race.Overall winner will be based on the points totals for the event. Any ties in points that need to be broken throughout the night will be determined by Average Best Laptime.

Thanks in advance for everybody that is coming! This is a great chance to try this format out, and see if there are any bugs in the plan. We hope to do this on a regular basis this spring and summer, either weekly or bi-weekly.

It would be great if you'd post here if you plan on coming, just so we can try to keep a rough idea of who is coming.

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

It was awesome seeing so many people out for this. Lots of Mitsubishi and Subaru drivers plus a few regular autocrossers. In the end the usual suspects (the regular autocrossers/road racers) lead the way into the final race. Seemed like most everyone had a good time and hopefully no one is too sore today. :)

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

Yeah, I need to figure out how to handle the tight turns. Drifting and steering with the brake is fun but obviously not fast. lol.

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

I had a great time. Other than getting creemed on two starts and spun out while trying to pass Scheides. It's fun watching a big mix of drivers go at it. It didn't really matter because the top guys showed they can handle traffic just fine.

I have to get back in autocross some more. This event defenitely satisfied my thirst for some racing.

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

What a great time! Thanks Ron for putting this event together. I've never been part of a larger group at Pro-Kart before.

Hopefully this event will inspire a few peeps to give AutoX a shot! There are a lot of parallels between karting and autocross so if you handled the karts well then you will do well on the autocross course!

Dang, Another event I missed out on as I was in Duluth rc car racing yesterday, is there plans to organize another?

I never tried Karting. Brandon, if this helps my Autcross skills, I think I better get my arse out there. LOL!

Seat time is seat time. 6 of the top 10 yesterday were regular autocrossers with Ryan Gates being in the top 10 as well who races in time attack.

I ended up getting paid last night to help a buddy install a radio and speakers in his car, so that's why I didn't show. That and I wanted to take a break from doing shit in the one night between jobs.

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

I used to go to prokart all of the time, when there was one in Blaine. The people there used to let me race, even though I was like a year or 2 too young. I actually used to be pretty damn good, seeing as I am huge, I still managed to beat the skinny guys lol.

Wanted to go to this, but too far, and no money :(, plus bday crap got me caught up.

We couldve each given you a dollar for your birthday and you wouldve had enough.

That's ok. We will try this again. Hopefully next month there will be still alot of interest. It made it alot more fun because there were so many racers there. I think we had 5 female drivers. They had a really good time too.

Where did all the Subaru owners come from? I didn't see any mention of the event on mnsubaru.com.

I know Ron works on Subies. I think he also called GrimmSpeed about the event and that's their specialty.

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

I just told someone let them spread the word. They just send me a text everytime they get more people. Theres really not much more interest in other forums. Dont know why. I know Greg wanted it to be forum vs forum, car club vs. car club. I just wanted it to be fun. Most of the people who came are existing customers and friends. Then guys from MAP joined at the last minute.
I think we have the potential of getting a bigger group. Greg told me 50 would work out perfect and we had 49 total. I'm sure next time we can have other forums like mnautox, mnsubaru, mnhondas, mnsportcompacts, d town, volksport and others join in.

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

I think that was a good amount amount of people, more people would just be more work for ProKart and more time for racers to wait in between races. I hope the slower people want to keep doing something like this and want to become faster, that is my only worry that they will get frustrated and stop going.

I am not a fan of the us vs. them racing. I myself could represent multiple groups. Keep it fun and personal, this hobby doesn't need any more "your car manufacturer sucks" mentality than it already has. I'll gladly drive anyone's car and prove myself as a good driver. :)

Thanks again for getting everyone together for this, Ron.

agreed. :) 50 people! wow. When we usually go, there's only 9 of us. If I remember correctly, there are only 9 karts total that run during a race. Still, a very very fun time to have. Hey Matt D., maybe you take the Galant for a drive during an auto-x event...I'd like to have some feedback on how this car feels like.

The most they ever allow on the track is 10, and that can be a lot of traffic.

If we're both ever at the same event and they offer buck runs I think it would be a blast to swap cars for a run or two, I always like trying out different cars and letting people flog mine for a bit.

Re: Prokart Indoors 2/21/10

I keep getting asked when the next one will be so we are trying to find out which date will work for some. Right now we have the 14th or 21st in mind. 14th is 1st day of day light saving so 7 will be still sunny out. 21st is the first day of spring I think.
Let me know if there's any interest and which date will work.
We don't even have a date set and I have 10 people ready to go already.
