WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Hey guys, I finally sold my srt-4 and now im on the hunt for a new car. Im looking at 02-04 Wrx, Evo 8, and 2gb gsx...Anyone have anything they are trying to get rid of? I have cash in hand!
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
How much you wanna spend?
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Looks like the WRXs are going around 14 at dealers. Same sort of thing I'd like to buy later this year.
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Um I have 12k in cash but I don't want to spend it all.... I have been seeing 02-03 WRX for around 7500 on craigslist.
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
If you dont want to spend it all, your not going to get close to an evo. I high mileage one goes for at least 13k. You could get a 02-03 wrx for under 10, maybe an 04-05 even.
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
If you bought a high mileage 2g, or even a 1g and put the rest in to mods you'd have yourself a pretty bad ass car.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
heres a nice 2ga. Def worth the money, if its not sold.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
^^^ yeah taht car is very nice and a good guy, buy that one if anyone :)
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
If I was buying, I would buy the one Jim (talonfiero) is selling
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
You're not getting an Evo for that price, and honestly you're going to need to spend most of that $12k to get a nice WRX that doesn't have a ton of miles and issues.
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
+1 ^^^^ Jims car is really nice also!
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Yeah that was the other car i was going to link to. Both are very nice cars for the money and you would still have money left over. Evo is going to be hard to find. and WRX is well... a WRX.
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
WRX=$$$$$ to mod and $$$$$ to repair.
It's like the Japanese version of Audi and BMW. |

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
A while ago there was a maroon 02 that had ~100k on it. I think it was priced at like $7500. But it had black varnish all over the rear seats and door panel.
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
I had an 03 evo before my srt-4 that I picked up in California for $9800, it had 99k miles on it. Great car but I ended up selling it a few months later to pay tuition. I have seen a few evos in my price range...I'm pretty much a craigslist whore, im on there everyday. As far as an eclipse/talon goes I would like to get one as close to stock as possible. I'm not saying that some of these cars arn't nice but I would rather do all the work by myself so I know it is done right! I'm sure alot of you are the same way*
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
The wrx has 102k miles on it and its even at a dealer...I checked it out, pretty much a flawless car, I talked him down to 7k but im having second thoughts.. The car is in Cambridge if any of you are interested.

I traded in my `01 BMW 325xi in on my Evo for only $6k. It only had 85k miles on it but it cost me an easy $6k in that previous year in repairs. The $14k (asking price) WRXs that I was talking about averaged 48k miles. |
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Damn, where were you when I was selling my car for $10k?

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
I'll sell you my DSM for 10k. Just tossing it out there. You could look at it, but no driving it til spring since it is in storage and there is salt on the roads.
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
I will have an evo 8 for sale after the snow season.
But it will be a little more than $12 k. Currently has 70k on the chassis. About 20-30k on a completely stock motor/trans. I bought it drive for winter and plan to sell it in the spring. I've had the car since 2005. Then sold it last march then bought it back. |

My point stands: You're going to need to spend most of that $12k to get a decent WRX. |
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Definitely wasn't the car I looked at, this one was maroon, no fart can, no dent in the fender...Let me know when you want to part with that evo, I will most likely be interested!

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
lol, got a feeling someone wants to go fast in an awd.
This thread = joke. $7k for a wrx with 100k that you are gonna beat the piss out of, not a good move. Either get something older and cheaper or something newer that might be able to take the beating you will give it. I'll build a 2.4 and sell you my car for 10k |

As for the OP. In my opinion, If you want something AWD turbo but don't wanna shell out all of your money for a WRX or EVO I'd say get a DSM. You could pick up a nice one and still have money left over to buy a DD or second DSM  |

The 04 - early 06 STi's were probably the best cars they made for the US market. The 6-speed tranny is very strong and it was one of their better motors. You don't see rod bearing failures on those motors much at all, but you do sometimes see ringland failures on the back cylinders. The 07+ STi motors stock are junk, junk, junk. Bad factory tune and low grade bad pistons. They spin rod bearings and have piston failures stock, modded, stock with a fixed tune, whatever. Subaru stopped selling some some of the models for a bit to try to fix problems, but the motor failures have continued. There are guys with stock 08 STi's on their third motor and some of the big national Subaru tuners have complained about extremely high failure rates out of the box on new OEM replacement motors that they have got. The 2.5l WRXs seemed like they were better, but now I see people having problems with them too. You can search NASIOC and find motor failure lists like this http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1695936 for different years/models of turbo Subarus from the last few years when the motors got really sketchy. These are probably the same people who say Evos are unreliable |
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
That's some good info. I never knew that about the WRX/STi.
Gotta love being on a forum with people who know their stuff! |
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Im not really looking to go fast right now, when I registered for this forum I had a 2g gsx that I installed a 20g in with supporting mods. Now i'm in a senior in college at the university of Minnesota in Duluth in there software engineering program. I am looking for a car that will be a good base to build off of as soon as I start working and making BANK!

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
LOL @ the hopes, dreams, and expectations of a college student...I remember my senior year at UMD :)
My advice is to keep saving until you can afford a nice WRX, STI, or Evo. Also, keep researching everything and test-drive a few examples of each until you really get a feel for exactly what you want in a car. My wife has a modded '07 WRX and although it has a completely different feel than my Evo, it is still a very fun car to bomb around in. With a few mods she's making more power than stock Evo's and with Shane's (ecoli) custom dyno tune on it I have no reservations regarding its reliability. The Evo is a great choice if you're willing to give up some of that comfort and smoothness for raw performance. The Evo is much harsher and the interior has no where near as many creature-comforts, but when I get on the gas, hammer the brakes, or turn the wheels hard I forget all about that and immediately start grinning. I feel the STI falls somewhere between the WRX and Evo and is almost a compromise of the two; some of the WRX niceties and 80% of the Evo's raw performance characteristics. |
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
So no turbotalon1g this thread is not another I want to go fast story...Like I said I don't trust other peoples builds, I do everything myself.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
What did you go for?
|
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
How are you graduating college with $12k cash! IM graduating with $15k debt

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
haha, I went on a paid internship for axiomtek, I made enough money to pay off all my college loans, and have some left over....software engineering is a terribly hard major but the pay out is well worth it.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
BANK? LOL good luck man :) I say save your money, buy a cheap car (even if it is a DSM) and start looking for a job like yesterday. Otherwise you'll wind up roaming europe and finding yourself, blowing all your money and paying for rent with a credit card until you get a part-time gig to start paying the bills.
Reality: its tough, but a good thing to deal with. |
Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Thanks for the Advice Kracka, I just might do that! I live close enough to school that I don't need a car, or I could take out a loan....Sounds like you love your evo though!
