The Voy project - ridin' durtay

10 Attachment(s)
So like I put up in the other thread, I bought a GMC Envoy as my new DD. It's the SLT model which is a step above the SLE, but not as pimp as the Denali version.

Anyhow I've had it for a week and the mods have begun.

Here is the BEFORE pictures of how she looked when I bought her.

Mod #1
was to get the tail lights tinted. Perfect timing, was able to get it done at Primo as they just did a sale on it.

These are night shots, and my camera isn't that great at night photos. I'll get some daytime shots tomorrow hopefully and put them up tomorrow. I'm hoping they look a hair lighter in the daylight.

Either way, I'm real happy with them. Nice shiny gloss finish on them. Thanks a bunch Primo guys!

Ballin. Looks like a nice vehicle, should be fun to be able to tow some things if need be.

Should be a fun thread to watch

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

Thanks man, that's the whole idea, I needed something that could tow, so this is my new workhorse.

I also just picked up some custom fitted weathertech all-weather floormats that should be here in a couple days. I'll post up pics when I get them.

Next mods that are up and coming are:

- HID's
- Custom molded running boards
- Chrome grille
- Remote Start
- Resonator delete and chrome tip coming out the side.
- Air Intake
- GPS / DVD touchscreen headunit upgrade
- Other various Denali aesthetic upgrades.

That's the plan for now. Not a whole lot of performance, but more aesthetic mods. It is the DD after all, so don't want to screw with the motor too much, ha!

Lookin good! You should go with a black grill instead of chrome. Keep it lookin "durtay".

I didn't realize you were getting the tail lights tinted that dark, time for some black rimzz and black'd out headlight housings.

Looks good!

Had a question though, isn't illegal to have tinted tail lights? My Boss said he got a fix it ticket because of that... Or was he just telling me bs?

Halon 01-29-2010 09:39 AM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

Legally you need to have some sort of red reflection in the back. I've had my Talon's rear lights tinted about the same darkness as these for a couple years now, and I haven't run into issues. But I guess it really comes down to the cop, and if you run into the wrong guy on the wrong day.

They are a little darker than what I wanted, but they only did 2 coats, oh well, in the future I may get another set and have them do just 1 coat. But I'm leaving them as is for now because they still look decent. In person, they aren't "black" either, they are still quite transparent so the lights are still very bright, even in the daylight. Pictures don't show it all that well. I'll try to get some daylight shots in.

Plus keep in mind this has daytime running lights, so the rear red lights are always on when driving, which may help keep the popo from catchin me ridin durtay.

Yes the FD ones are tinted. But like I said, legally you need to have some sort of red reflection. Notice the big red reflector? That's what makes it legal.

Anyhow, here's some daytime shots. I may be getting another set eventually, and have them do just 1 coat to make them a little less gangsta tinted.

tehehodi 01-29-2010 08:13 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

i think that's perfect, not gangsta at all.

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

You need to debadge that thing! But I like the way the taillights look!

Halon 01-29-2010 10:14 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

Debadging, hmm... I'm not sure if I want to do that yet. Part of my likes the badges, but part of me thinks it'd look cleaner without them.

asshanson 01-29-2010 10:20 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

Ooh, debadge AND tint those circle reflectors in the rear bumper.

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

Andrew, I tinted the upper half of them, because the upper half was the red reflector. I left the white part untinted because that's the reverse lights, not a reflector.

The black grill, meh, I don't think I like that. I want to get more of a chrome grill. Also remove the orange turn signal reflectors. I don't want it completely blacked out, I want some contrast. I like how the bright chrome looks on the front, so I'm going to go that route. With the orange removed, and a chrome grill, I think they look real nice.

Here's some examples of other guys with various chrome grills:
(this one is one of my favorite Envoys. I'm getting running boards similar to these, but paint matched my color. This is called the Bentvoy grill)
http://gallery.trailvoy.com/data//54...rfall_pic1.jpg

This is the grill I really want, but problem is it's like $250 for the top and bottom inserts which is kinda crack money. It's the Street Scene grill

I just seen one of these nice rides yesterday and it was black with chrome 20 or 22" rims and a lowering kit so there was even wheel gap all around the wheel and it looked real real bad ass so you better drop it just a little!

Halon 01-30-2010 08:13 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

The only drop it'll be getting is the one that will be induced when the boat is hooked up to the hitch!

New Weather Tech All-Weather custom fitted floormats came in. They fit just like OEM, and should hopefully save the carpet and stock carpet mats from the nasty salt and what not!

Halon 02-03-2010 07:42 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

And apparently the Denali running boards are redonkulously expensive to buy from the dealer (I've hear around $2000), and very tough to find used or in junk yards. So I just ordered up a set of these from wingzexpress. They look very similar to the Denali ones, but 1/4 of the price, and they come painted to match the truck :)

Here's an example of what they look like on a Trailblazer

Should have got the Digital Fit !!!!

I just got mine in the WRX and I love em so far.

Halon 02-04-2010 12:44 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

I spent plenty of time considering all my options. I decided against the digitals because they don't have grooves like these do. I like the grooves because it kind of traps the water and what not down in there, keeping it captured and keeping my feet out of it. The digitals are fairly flat, so water can roll around, and your feet are still in the water.

That's why I chose the All-Weather ones. The digitals do look nice, but they weren't exactly what I wanted 'function' wise.

very nice! lovin the black on black rear lights. There's a alot of Envoy's that come in with "smoked" rear lights.

Well my new running boards came in the mail. Will be installing them later on tonight. But here's some pics of what they look like out of the box. They come already painted to match your truck. It's hard to tell, but they are painted the Charcoal Metallic color of my truck. Can't wait to get em on!!

Also, a new set of headlight housings showed up as well. And I ordered up some Projectors that should be here next week, and I will be 'retrofitting' them into the new housings. And then will be installing HID's onto in with one of the kits from Primo's group buy.

And last but not least, bought a stupid little hitch plug thing to hopefully prevent the inside of my hitch receiver from rusting out.

You should do a write up on the retro-fitting, I would like to try something like that some day with my 1gb

Halon 02-14-2010 04:17 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

This retrofit should be extremely simple because I bought projectors specifically meant for retrofitting. So it "should" be a fairly quick and easy install. I checked my tracking, and it appears the projectors are at the St. Paul post office. So probably be delivered to my doorstep tomorrow.

I got my new OEM 'style' donor housings off ebay a couple days ago. They look great. Decided to pop them open today. Removed the orange reflector. Right now I'm not completely sure yet if I'm going to leave the orange piece off completely, or just tint the orange piece and put it back in tinted. We will see.

I would say leave the orange reflector in them to give it a little color.

Halon 02-14-2010 05:23 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

If I leave it in, it will probably be tinted, not remain bright orange like it is.

b00sted_spyder 02-14-2010 05:59 PM

Re: The Voy project - ridin' durtay

That would look better than leaving them out. Can't wait to see progress.
