Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

http://kstp.com/kstpImages/statepatrol_newcruiser90.jpg

The Minnesota State Patrol is putting new wheels on the road designed to stop and catch aggressive drivers.
The state patrol is using five new Dodge Chargers that are only marked with a small state patrol logo on the passengers side.

The patrol says the goal of the new vehicles is to allow its troopers to blend in with traffic. The state patrol released dash cam video of how the vehicles work. The video showed one unlucky driver who made the mistake of darting in and out of traffic, tailgating, and excessively speeding without noticing the trooper's vehicle. "He didn't know it was a squad car," said Capt. Matt Langer. "In fact, at one time he thought the trooper was trying to race with him." The new cruisers cost the same as the highly-visible state patrol vehicles.

That's retarded imo but I usually tend to be careful if it's any kind of american car in case it's an unmarked car.

Exactly. It's always a V8 American car...

I must say, "FINALLY!!!" The tailgaters here drive me fucking insane. Seriously, when im driving 70 down the highway and the guy is on my ass and i have my son in the car, i get sooo pissed.

So then get the hell outta the left lane and I'll get off your ass :P

I don't like it, but I understand the idea. I just don't like it because I don't want to get caught, ha. I like it in Europe where the cop cars are dinky, they ALWAYS have the light bar lit up letting you know it's them, and they have fixed radar stations, but they warn you a half mile in advance that they are coming up.

LOL. If a DSM ever did it and I found out who they were, they would get pay banned for a month.

Yep, they're not as sneaky as they think they are.

True, I've been seeing unmarked Chargers for a year or so now. This is nothing new lol.

St. Paul Police department has been using cars they seize as unmarked. I've seen a few 2000-ish Malibu's a few mid-90's Tahoes. I even saw a Lexus ES300 with the interior police get-up.

But either way, if you know what to look for visually, it's pretty easy to call them out before they can do any harm to your wallet or driving record.

Ha yeah i think that was north carolina.. had a svt mustang and a 350Z....

I know its nothing new, just thought id inform everyone they were adding to the force....As a rule I also generally just dont trust any charger i see on the road...

There is a completely unmarked charger in fridley, dark grey, tinted windows, alloy wheels... what a bastard....I see him on east river road north of 694 alot!

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

just to let you guys know they have told you about them because they have new undercover cars out there that you can not even tell they are cops. When Aly still worked for Plymouth they had some nice looking cars there.

suv's on 22's+
mini van's
magnum on big chrome
jeep's
ect
they have no extra lights
no extra ant.'s on them

maple grove also has the same things going on also. So it is most likely T.C. wide now

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

The local 5-0 has been rocking the chargers undercover for a while. I know here in BC they had saturns, all kinds of suvs and whatever miserable late 90's sedans GM made. The only give away with them is that the windows are murdered out. The darkest tint I have seen.

The worst undercover 5-0 I have ever seen was in Ohio. A bright red Z28 camaro. Flew by me with the lights and sirens on and I was so confused. 5 miles down the road he had a big body BMW pulled over.

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

Yeah, these guys are easy to spot.

You can see the lights hidden behind the headrests in the back seat. You just have to know what to look for. When I pull up next to them on the highway, I usually wave. :D

Brooklyn Center has a couple vans and SUVs, those are the ones you have to watch out for.

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

I remember clearly on highway 52N seeing a Charger WITH black stripes pulling over a car. Pretty crazy because at first you wouldn't even know until you see the small "christmas" lights hidden in the back window.

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

During Back to the 50s this summer there was a 300C on 22s with chrome everywhere complete with red and blue strobes hidden all over directing traffic in Shoreview/Arden Hills where a lot of those people stay at one of the hotels.

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

I've seen the charger with black stripes pulling people over on US-10 numerous times. I know by my buddies house in saint paul, there's an early 2000's bonneville ssei (supercharged one). And we saw a golf gti the one day speeding past us in a group of cops.

I've seen the Z28 "interceptors" before as well. Saw one for sale a while back too, almost bought it haha.

Brooklyn Park's chargers are out right now. The black one likes sitting on Noble in between the elementary school and kellys bar and grill. BC and BP have random sorts of vehicles.

I got a speeding ticket from the silver/black stripes charger. Court date is February 19th because I plead not guilty.

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

I don't know if anyone knows this but lately it seems like the state troopers have cameras on their cars looking at license plates, processing numbers and pulling them over if anythings checks out wrong.

Seen in action and was glad all my parking tickets were paid...

Defensive driving. It was rush hour traffic here in Rochester on HWY 14, everyone was going about 62mph.. The highway turns into a 1 lane which alot of people don't know about (I have been cut off there before and have rolled my truck because people don't yield, just merge)

So I was slowly scooting by everyone because I didn't want to get cut off again, and this is my only possible route to take. I was going about 67mph, in a 55 zone. Last car I passed was the state patrol officer. He said "I was going approximately 65mph when you passed me." He didn't get a mph of how fast I was going, but I asked him why he was in the yielding lane and why he was speeding, and he said "Because I am above the law"

Sweet, officers are indeed assholes.

Not really though, because now every time you see a black charger you'll think it might be a cop!

The more cars that could potentially be cop cars, the more cars you have to drive cautiously around.

That's brand new. I was just talking to a cop at the auction(real cool guy btw, said he's never given a ticket for not having a front plate, nor do any of his buddies) and he mentioned they have a new sensor that reads license plates ALL OF THE TIME WHILE DRIVING and uploads them into the database. It immediately tells the cop if the driver has a warrant or any problems they could pull them over for. I guess my days of running cars to the auction with expired plates is all but done.

That will be day when people get pull over for tailgating in this state. This state does not enforce tail gating even if it is illegal. I seen people tail gate cops and troopers all the time in St. Paul and nothing happens.

As for undercover Chargers they been out for about 2 years now. I see them all the time by 694 and 494. If you pay attention to the car you will notice they have wider tires than stock chargers and sit lower too. Another thing that gives them away is that they are always the cleanest car (exterior wise) on the road even after a snow storm.:)

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

haha man in rochester i've had some prick tailgaiting my for like a mile and a half on 14, i was goin above the speed limit just barely, he wouldn't go around or get off me ass so i said screw this and started messing with him tryin to get him to back off. he still didn't tryed flying around me and following me, and he was trying to pull me over? he tried taking a left after he saw me do it so i just pulled a u turn and lost him in the backroads behind my house :p he seemed a little retarded.

mlomker 01-21-2010 08:35 PM

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

I use to despise tailgaters when I rode bike. I once did 110mph down 35E just north of DT St Paul trying to get this woman off my back tire...she sped up! I ended up raising my left hand and slowing to 45.

mitsukid124 01-21-2010 08:38 PM

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

haha i would just kept slowing down. i hate retarded drivers, like im fine if someone will make a mistake, like if i tap the brakes and they get that i want them to back of im cool with it, but its the ppl that wont do anything different that piss me off. so i decide to have some fun with them. and then they hate me haha.

Re: FYI: Speeders beware: MN State Patrol sports new wheels

There's this section of Hwy 5 going from Stillwater through Lake Elmo that eventually runs to Oakdale/694. It's a 2 lane hwy from my house to about Oakdale then splits to a 4 lane until 694.If someone's on my ass I'll run it down to about 30mph and when it gets to the 4 lane i'll speed up so they can't pass. No excuse for tailgating in my opinion. Violaters should be punished!
