4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

Well, first I'll start off with my old setup. Basically it was small 16g, 272's, e85, FMIC, ect. With that I ended up putting down 363whp and 365wtq at map's dyno with a boost leak and a okay tune.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...rbolast001.jpg

Once I got out of school I figured it was time to stop maxing out 16g's and finally buy a real turbo and one with some lag to help my FWD spinning goodness. After searching the forums for a good month, I ended up buying a blown SBR G60 (60-1) with a S cover and a DNP tubular manifold for cheap.

Here it is next to a 37r

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020835.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020810.jpg

Gave the turbo to Julian (jhaan dude) and had it rebuilt. I have ran a couple of his turbo's without issues. He had the turbo done same day that I dropped it off. Couldn't be happier.

DNP manifold

After furthur inspection, I found a nice 1" crack along one of the welds..
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020896.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020892.jpg

Ended up taking my mig welder to it and welded the sh*t out of it.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020917.jpg

Next day I brought the manifold over to Jesse at Primo to get ceramic coated. Should be done by the end of this week.

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

Now I needed a wastegate off the o2 housing. I got a hold of 2bar1g (mitch) and picked up his HKS 40mm wastegate and 3" o2 housing for a good price.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020798.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020801.jpg

Painted the top of the wastegate black to go along with my "theme" of red and black.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0120001935.jpg

After some test fitting I found that I needed a lot more room for the turbo to fit. As you can see the manifold was really close to the head and the compressor housing hit the waterpipe and motor mount..
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020864.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020863.jpg

Searched the forums once again and got a 1/2 thick spacer which made everything fit perfectly!
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020918.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020912.jpg

That's about all for now. Need to get some sleep. I'll update more later.

That is a seriously clean engine bay! Does the use of a manifold spacer require a different downpipe?

Looking good man! This season was going to be my time to go with a big turbo too but I think I've been bitten by the rallyX bug.

Nice looking set-up there man! What kind of power are you looking to make? Any other mods besides those 272's?

Nice, I'm also getting out of 16g's for a big turbo this year. That should make 500hp easy

Why not cut the flange off and add runners to it. Instead of double flange. Somehow it looks like it's gonna have a sealing issue. But I guess if it works it works.
Nice project.

I've had a spacer plate like that for about 10k miles without any issues, just have to run an extra gasket thats all.

If you look closely in the one pic, it looks like it will actually be quite close! If it bolted right up, that would be badass.

Was that with the hahn ecoli/slowwhite/hort/scheides turbo? I know it had the spacer/adapter on the top of the turbine housing...yea, it did have a spacer between the manifold and the head didn't it?! Otherwise the turbine housing would hit the block, suck.

Looks good man, but why a 60-1? That's some old-skool tech man. I'm sure on E85 it'll make badass power though, should be plenty of fun and might I say....done by spring dyno day? Looks like you're close :D

looking good andy. Just to let you know that mani is not a dnp and that is why you need the spacer to clear it just hope it was really cheap for you to pick up

It will crack again..Sorry bro. I had one of those..got rid of it right away. Get yourself a FP mani..

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

^ I have a DNP sitting here at the shop that has probably been rewelded 10 different times. It was even cracking in the middle of pipe sections, not at a weld. Fixing it got old, so we switched to an SLS.

Swifty1638 01-21-2010 10:57 AM

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

My DNP t4 is just fine, but I'm selling all that off to fund another venture. I'm talking about the OP's manifold..looks more to me like the knock off ones. Even so, I hear those DNP's cracked alot cuz DNP used a different material to make them out of to keep costs down. I mean, who's going to spend 500+ on a stock replacement manifold, and sell them in great enough numbers to keep producing?

Lookin good! Hope to see it out at the track this year!

I rock an SLS mani too. Love the mani, hate the shop tho, ha.

Thanks! Well my downpipe reduces down to 2 1/2 and has a 2-bolt flange and my o2 housing is 3" with a 3-bolt flange. I already talked to mark and got a 3 bolt 3" flange from him. It still lines up pretty close so it shouldn't be that bad.

I'm looking for 500whp maybe a little more. Internal wise I have BC 272's, MLS 4-layer headgasket and ARP headstuds. Everything else is stock/original with 71k miles.

Nice project.

That would be way more work than its worth. The manifold spacer was only 30 shipped. I already got 2 new gaskets and longer studs to bolt it up.

I actually only have a couple more things to get done. Just been busy and haven't had time to make this thread yet. I could have it running in less than a week, but I'm working on the little details. Spring dyno day is looking promising!

I went with a 60-1 cause it will spool around 4000-4300 which should help with some traction and I got a really good deal on the setup.

I figured it wasnt since it didn't have the DNP stamp on it and the collector didn't look very clean. I talked to the guy I bought it from about it and he sent me back some of my money. I have been thinking of either just running it for this year and selling it. Or just sell it right away and buy a FP manifold.

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

Next I got a COP setup from Stephan (greasemonkey) He ended up selling it to me for $39 bucks!

Here it is the night I picked it up.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020771.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020772.jpg

Then I cleaned it up and prepped it for some wrinkle black paint and this is what I came up with.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020785.jpg

Installed
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020797.jpg

While I took out my old spark plug wires and coil pack. I decided to take advantage of it and clean up the wiring some more.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020865.jpg

I also prepped and painted the fuel rail semi-gloss black
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020906.jpg

Now I'm waiting for my 1600's to get here and the fuel rail will go back in.

COP? You have any sort of Ignition amp to go with that?

4g63tcrazy 01-21-2010 01:32 PM

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

No I don't. But I'm holding onto my magnacore wires and coil pack cause I know I'll probably have to swap it out once I start upping the boost.. We'll see.

4g63tcrazy 01-21-2010 08:34 PM

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

Well with the way the new turbo is setup and for the fact that I always wanted to get a new intercooler. I jumped on the one that Nick (munchgsx) was selling. It's a SBR 8" street kit. A little smaller than what I wanted but it will do the trick for now.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020669.jpg

First thing I did was strip all the paint off
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020666.jpg

Then sprayed it wrinkle black
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020671.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020674.jpg

Then it was time to mount it up. It was fairly easy. Just had to make a bracket to bolt to the hood latch. Then 2 brackets on the bottom.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020721.jpg

With this kit slowboy says it will fit with stock foglights with "minor" tweaking of the brackets. Well of course you can't trust slowboy and the foglights were 1-2 inches off.

I came up with a fairly easy solution..
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...1230091935.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...1230091939.jpg

Piping fitment was pretty good
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020715.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1020718.jpg

I'm probably just gonna stick with the 1g bov for now. But the plan is to get a Greddy type S or RS.

Here is a photoshop of what the finished product will look like. I will probably keep the plate off until the cops harrass me about it. I got a new front bumper from Stephan that I'll be using. Just gotta prep it and figure out what I'm gonna do for paint.

It has been in the back of my mind to ceramic coat all the parts. But I've already spent a ton of money and the GF isnt too happy! :) I did give a call to primo about powdercoating the piping also but decided against it since I knew I could paint it and it would still hold up decent. And you can't say anything about my tuck compared to yours.. I guess we'll just continue to go back and forth about it!

For the compressor housing I'm not too sure. I was thinking of painting it wrinkle black to match the bay but that might be "too much." What do you guys think?

I was thinking of powdercoating my compressor housing on my scm. My engine bay is gonna be all black and white, thought a black compressor housing would look sweet.

You gonna do something about that crushed 1g bov or are you just gonna crush it more (til it doesn't open) and holds high boost? haha.

Your stock ignition should be more than fine for that turbo's power capability.

The plan is to run if for now. Munchgsx ran it on his 16g spiking to 35psi without issues so we'll see. I do want to get a Greddy type S or RS.

That is the plan. That's why I said I'm keeping them. If I start getting ignition issues with the COP then I'll just swap it out.

Good to hear! I know it's going to be nothing but a smoke show but maybe I'll invest in some nice slicks. I already got the rims for them. Although I do have a rear subframe from an AWD sitting in the garage. :)

Thanks for the compliments so far guys.
