Help!!!
ok so i was on the highway and i watched my oil pressure gauge drop and the motor sputtered and died. it still cranks over and everything but wont start there was a wire unhooked from the oil filter housing not sure where it connects to but any ideas please let me know im guessing bent valves?

Re: Help!!!
If the motor dies so will your oil pressure. Check for fuel and spark, do a compression test, etc.
|
Re: Help!!!
lost oil pressure and drove off the highway so like 3 mins of no oil pressure before it died
|
Re: Help!!!
No oil press will toast the bottom end really fast
|
Re: Help!!!
planned on doin a comp test tonight but i cant find my comp tester so gotta wait till tomorrow
|
Re: Help!!!
You lost oil pressure and continued driving for 3 mins? When oil pressure drops you need to shut off the engine immediately if you want any chance of it surviving.
|
Re: Help!!!
If the wire that goes to the filter housing, is the one that actually reads oil pressure, then it will say it doesn't have any if not connected....could be a coincidence that it won't start, or your motor could be toast.

Re: Help!!!
I assumed you were using an aftermarket gauge. The stock gauge is pretty much worthless, the low oil pressure warning light is generally pretty trusty though.
|
Re: Help!!!
last i saw the car it didnt have an aftermarket gauge
|
Re: Help!!!
its a stock gauge and the gauge always bounced around and was never accurate so i didnt really pay attention to it when it just dropped completely but then the actual oil light came on then it crapped out.
|
Re: Help!!!
I don't know what you're expecting us to tell you. You KNEW there was a problem with the car, no oil pressure, yet you continued to drive it. Good luck.
|
Re: Help!!!
i really didnt know cuz the gauge was effed up so i really didnt know it was a problem i just assumed the gauge was acting up so i just need to get some aftermarket gauges after its fixed

Re: Help!!!
Uhh, yeah... If you drove for 3 mins with the oil light on, your bottom end is toast. Any loud rattling, clanging or banging when the motor sputtered out and died?

im inclined to agree with matt here, just assuming its a faulty guage is a bad idea, cause what if your wrong? and in this case it appears you were. although i do with you the best of luck in getting whatever the issue bmay be resolved |
Re: Help!!!
the best way for me to describe how it died would be the exact noise a car makes when your trying to teach someone how to drive a stick and they just pop the clutch and it dies it still turns over and everything nothing is knocking or clicking when it turns over
|
Re: Help!!!
Do your cam gears move when turning it over?

Re: Help!!!
This is your piston

Re: Help!!!
If your oil pressure light came on, you have issues. Save yourself the trouble of a compression test.
Drain the oil. Metal chunks=your engine is done. No metal chunks, change the oil, as the oil light comes on when its very low oil pressure. Then proceed to try to turn the engine over for a compression test. Anything else disconnected? Does the engine crank over strongly? Any noises when cranking? Very good chance you destroyed the lower end, reason it doesn't start is a munched crankshaft sensor. |
Re: Help!!!
ok so oil was clean but when i crank it over the cam gears dont move. the harmonic balancer does though

Re: Help!!!
goodbye timing belt
|
Re: Help!!!
x2 ^ and if that went then yes your valves are probably toast
|
Re: Help!!!
Prob take a look at your timing marks. Might have slipped.
