Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
Back in elementary and middle school I always wanted a Camaro, but in high school I converted and went straight to a DSM ('93 GSX) for my first car.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I never really had a fast car till the dsm. I was more of the lifted truck/suv kind of guy. I have had a couple lifted chevy blazers ect, and actually got the dsm as a quick little econo car-haha what a flop that turned into. I wouldn't have it any other way though. It has been a hell of a learning experience for sure. Its rewarding to have something so fast that can also be docile.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I had no choice in my first car, had a 1993 ford probe gt, then a 1993 dodge stealth (sohc auto, nothing exciting). Then my buddy talked me into a 1992 Plymouth laser rs, awd, 5spd. After a brief modding spree, it was all downhill from there. 4 dsm's later, and here I am today lol.

I got smart, I'm trying to go the other way.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
The first car I ever bought was a Honda Prelude, decided that would be too much work to make it go fast, so I bought a 92 laser awd. Been stuck on dsm's ever since.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I've been diving Chevy K5's and more recently my 03 Silverado for years, I just happened upon this little 96 Tsi AWD and picked it up, hoping to fix it, sell it and make a few bucks. Honestly rollin my 5.3 V-8 Silverado I've always laughed at the guys with only "half-a-motor". Now that I've been diving this I can definatly see what people like about hese cars. A couple hundred bucks worth of mods and I've got a car that will walk all over my truck. I can't call myself "converted" yet, but I'm definatly a big fan.

A truck is no comparison.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
-First car was a 94 cavalier that I really had no choice in owning.
-Second car was a 97 Chrysler Concorde i had a bunch of audio stuff in (3 12's, amp, etc.) -Third car was a shitter 2 door 97 Grand Am GT with a 5 speed. Was good on gas is about all. -Fourth car was a 97 Dodge Avenger that I bought when I was 18 and wanted to make fast, always wanted a Hahn tubo kit for it but I ended up settling for making it nice looking it instead of spending tons of money on something that would max out at 13's. Somewhere between car #3 and #4 is when I got into DSM's, tried the whole daily driver thing and ended up getting my Subie lol here was my Avenger: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/DSC01014.jpg Forgot to mention my 1961 Mercury Comet that my grandpa gave to me when I was 13. |
Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
First car was my 91 GSX. haha owned myself...
|
Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
my first was a 91 laser rs, fwd non turbo 5spd. really didnt know about turbo's and had no clue about anything dsm. switch over to a granny car after i bent 10 valves in the laser. had a couple mini vans and a v-6 camaro till i ended up with a 98 rs eclipse. had that for a couple years when i finally found my 97 gsx. sold my rs to some stupid kid for 4 grand and bought my gsx an hour later for the same price! im a die hard dsm man for sure!

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I started off with 2 cavy's until I finally got a 95 gst. Which crankwalked on me the 2nd day I had it.. Ever since then it's been dsm's other than my daily drivers (taurus, s10, and now an audi.) I even got 3 of my friends so far to get into dsm's. I know i'm a bad friend. haha

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I was a Mustang fan, when I had my old 86' GT, but I was 17 at the time and surprise surprise, I got in trouble with it. Had an old supra after that, then got a 90 Tsi AWD while I was in college, that broke alot so I ended up having to scrap it. But my first car takes the cake an 87 Dodge omni. My dad got it for 50 dollars, but then I had to pay 300 to fix it so I could drive it.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
Started with a Gm (grand am, lame), went to dsm's (3 total), then to the stealth, now have an Audi, and will be going to GM power again most likely (ls1 powered something).

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
Started with a 1971 Impala, had about 75 cars after that before I bought my 1991 Talon AWD, then sold that and bought my current GSX. I've had a lot of Chevy's since then, 2007 Tahoe LTZ was my favorite.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I went from a real nice supercharged 2004 Chevy SS 6.0 to the Evo. I still do not know which one I like better.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
well I started with a 90 plymouth sundance cause it was free and ran, then I went to a 4cylinder 1997 mazda mx6, then to a 1994 v6 mazda mx6, then to a 1999 chev malibu, then to my 1990 talon tsi awd. I didn't want a chev cause all my friends are on the gm band wagon so I wanted to do something different

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
Started racing GM powered stuff when I was 14 and continue to do it to this day. I always like the ease and simplicity of the cars and engines. Our current 24 hours of LeMons car is a 87 Regal with a chevy small block in it.
I drove an 86 GMC 3/4 ton truck after high school. It had a 406 small block with a cam, headers, carb and a 3 1/2" exhaust I made. It had the 4 speed tranny with the granny gear so it never went above 75mph. I got the Galant after getting interested in turbos. I like the 4 door functionality, rarity, and sleeper status of the car. I do plan to go back to GM cars though. I'll be purchasing a CTS-V when I have to refinance my house in 6 years. Wife gets a kitchen and I get a badass ride. |

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I started out with an '87 Chevy Blazer that had a 2.8 v6 and a 4 speed. That thing topped out at about 80 mph, but it was so much fun to beat the hell out of.
Then I moved to a '95 S-10 4x4 that had the 4.3 v6. Some fuel line in the intake manifold (brilliant design GM...) ruptured and hydro-locked the engine less than 24 hours after I drove it off the lot and Friendly Chevrolet wouldn't do anything to help me, so it ended up costing me about $1200 to fix that. I had it for about 2 years and spent more on repairs over the two years than I paid for it, so I sold that and picked up a '93 Toyota Celica. The Celica was a fun little car until some girl not paying attention made a left turn at a stop light in front of me when I had the green light, so I ended up T-boning her in the passenger rear door. After the Celica, I bought a '95 Nissan 240sx. Probably the most fun car I've had aside from my DSM, and that's only cuz my DSM has more power. I ended up totaling that out because I hit a patch of black ice and rear-ended a minivan going about 40 mph. At the same time I had the 240, I bought my first DSM, a '91 Talon that locked up the front balance shaft, stopped the oil pump and blew up about 3 weeks after I bought it. By the time I had it put back together, I already had my '92 gsx, so I just sold the Talon. |
Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
Started with a Cavalier, then went to Honda civic with B18 swap, then bought Toyota. Loved it. I still have it and then I bought Toyota Corolla for daily driver. NEVER had a problem with the thing. put god knows how many miles on it. Toyota was the best cars I have had. Now just recently bought an Evo 8 and I love it, but I haven't had it long enough to have my faith it in yet. (Don't really like the gas mileage) But it is extremely fun :D
Can I ask why everyone says they love GM so much? I don't really understand it. |
Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I had a 75 monte carlo with a 383 stroker. I sold it, part of it went to my business the rest to my first dsm project.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I started with what ever my dad bought for the flavor of the year, week or month...its a long list but it started with a eagle vision then went to a 84 pontiac sunbrid convertible, mazda 929, 84 chevy cavalier convertible, 84 firenza hatchback, then back to a cavalier z24 convertible, then grand am pos, my grnadmas shitty ford taurus then finally a dodge stratus rt coupe aka 3g eclipse, then my subaru and now hoping a evo this spring.

Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
My 1st car was my Chevelle, and I still have it.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...g?t=1257262670 I never converted, just found even more to love. |
Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
first car was a 92 eagle talon tsi, 2nd car was a 2gnt, 3rd car was a 2002 oldsmobile bravada, 4th car was a 92 honda civic dx, 5th car back to a 95 eagle talon tsi...yay...couldn't get away from them
i would settle for a saab 9-7x or a Trailblazer SS though |
Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
I've been lucky enough to never own a GM!
Oh wait, I do now, my Grand Prix. :( |
Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
My first car was a Buick Century then after a couple of months i got an Eagle Premier. I have had a few Integras, a 2gnt and now my 91 TSI.
|
Re: how many of us converted to dsms from chevys..
My first car was a 84 Mustang 5.0, then a 88 Ford Escort GT, 91 Eclipse GS, 91 GMC Jimmy 2.8L with 36s + 6" Lift, 89 Chevy Berreta GT, 88 Mitsu Starion, 96 Hyundai Accent, then I got sick of the Duluth winters and bought a 95 Talon TSi AWD, then a 90 Laser Turbo, 1992 Talon TSi, now I have a 01 Grand Prix GTP that runs 12s, and a 2005 Tahoe.
I would have to say the funnest car in the mix was the Starion, whipping shittys was cool when I was younger, and in my opinion nothing whips them better than a Starion/Conquest. |
