Brainerd this weekend

Anyone plan on going up there this weekend to watch Rau? Sounded like a few of the Winona people, Swifty and some of the MAP crew planned on going. There will be a few of us on the road course as well. If anyone that is coming up would like to go for a ride around the track in the blue viper, come find us. I don't think we will get the 5 cars needed for the discount so John and I will probably both use his car. Probabaly won't be able to have passangers in the morning due to the instructors riding along, but they do allow passangers to ride along. We will probably take a few breaks in the day to check out the strip also.

Early enough to get there. It is about a 2hr drive from my brother's house. It starts at 7:30 am. They will have some introductions, go over a few things and take everyone for a quick tour of the track. After that, they will have about 1hr of classroom training discussing techniques and safety. When that is done, you will get to drive with an instructor. He will give you tips on the "line" and different areas about the track. The instructor will be available to help you all day. When you are comfortable on your own, you can drive as you please for the rest of the day. Breakfast, lunch, and all the pop/water you can drink are included so you won't need to bring food.

Also, before you go, remove your floor mats and anything out of your car that could possibly move around. Last time I went, I had a pile of crap sitting in the garage area of things that I needed to remove from my car. Won't happen this time :)

Nice to see you are volunteering my car for joy rides ;) I will probably tape up my lights so I don't have to worry about rock chips if I end up going off roading again.

Haven't really had a chance to test this car, hope all is well in the alignment and suspension area.

Should be fun.

Winona people? Who is that? Starting to get interested. Brainerd is 5hrs away for me but if more people from here are going, I'd possibly go!

We're leaving tomorrow night so we can be there all day Saturday and Sunday. We are racing in the outlaw class and Rau is racing in the Pro Outlaw class, should be some decent 4 cylinder representation at the Muscle Car Shootout ;)

I guess I read the swifty thread wrong. Rau said swifty would be helping him this weekend and it looks like Nightjoker7 on here (winona) planned on going as well. I though he said he will have a few Winona people going.

Come check out the drags. Motor is pulled yesterday to check it over, and make sure things are still good. Car is back together. And, Rau/etc is on their way right now to the track. I'll be up there tomorrow evening to get settled/sorted out, and begin the weekend fun/drinking. Hope to see you MAP guys there!

Are they pretty picky for tech inspection for street cars at BIR? I would expect to run a 12.0 at the very slowest. I'm mainly asking because I have my battery in the trunk, but I don't have a shutoff switch on it. It is mounted good with 2 3/8" bolts, and it is covered -- I have it under where the spare tire goes (right in front of the washer fluid bottle) and it's covered with a diamond plate aluminum sheet.

You plan on camping there or getting a hotel? How much does it cost? If we decide to do the road course Saturday and Sunday, we might consider staying the night so we don't need to leave at 5am to get there on time. We will probably take John's viper and my honda so we can brings some crap. Might decide to bring my viper also if I can get it ready.

Re: Brainerd this weekend

I'm camping in Brent's pit area with him, his dad, beth, his kid, my gf, and his other crew chief.

As for tech, I was told it is like 3 1/2 hours to pass through it, but then again I also tihnk that depends on how "serious" of a car it is, times you expect to run, etc. However, given the weekend that it is, I'd say tech won't be lenient on rules. I suggest you get a NHRA sealed batt box, and a cut off switch. I'm still sorting out things, like that on my car, so we will see if I run the talon or not. I can't decide if I'll be too busy helping out to worry about running my car.

What was wrong with the way the battery and cutoff switch were done before? I thought they were done right. They were done the way we were told to before. Rules change?

Re: Brainerd this weekend

Well, I got a new NHRA battery box in place of that marine box you guys had. And, the switch is ok, but I'm trying to do a more push-pull type setup, as removing the plate and trying to get that handle on the switch is hard, since the switch isn't too terribly secure. But, I most likely won't be running the car, nor will I worry about that switch yet.

slowbubblecar 09-03-2009 01:31 PM

Re: Brainerd this weekend

All of that stuff including the box was from Summitt. Should of been a racing compatible box unless they sent the wrong box to us or something.

john 09-03-2009 05:01 PM

Re: Brainerd this weekend

That box and setup was legal when I installed it, wouldn't suprise me if someone had an issue in the past and the made the rules tighter. The switch is not fun putting the handle on but not a ton of places to mount the switch which isn't visible in everyday driving. Did't car to put a decent hole in the car to make it work.

Can any car run? I plan on road racing but maybe I could take it down the strip a time or two. I was suprised in the 4cy classes in the muscle car event. Should be fun.

Re: Brainerd this weekend

I dunno about any car. I'd look into the rules about that. Brent suggested I run and get a base time in, since I have yet to do so, but then again, I might be busy with other things, and there is still a ton to complete on the car in my eyes to make it "track worthy"

I would be going but last year was dead! Im guessing it will be worse this year?? Show and Go was dead this year too. Its not what it use to be anymore sucks!

Re: Brainerd this weekend

I thought the show and go was pretty good this year. I was at the road course but I thought there were quite a few people at the strip. Couldn't ever imagine either event keeping up with the NHRA as far as attendance.

I also think the show and go was pretty busy. I guess the problem with drag racing is that it is fun to watch for a little bit then just gets boring. If you know someone it is more entertaining but watching one car after another can get boring.
