Damned Burglars
A would be burglar just attempted to rob my house. He crawled through the basement windows and crawled back out. Everyone is ok, nothing was stolen or damaged (as far as I know, I received the phone call at work). My kids are now dramatized, I'm dramatized. Too man scenarios are running through my head; good and bad. Time to implement better security measures. What is the best deterent for basement level windows?

Re: Damned Burglars
a glock...... and i think you ment traumatized not dramatized
|
Re: Damned Burglars
And I think you meant, meant not ment...haha. I would look into some security agencies if you're trying to protect your family to the fullest. They're professionals, prob help ya sleep better at night.

Where do you live?

Re: Damned Burglars
yep, da STP ghetto. Yes, i meant 'tramatized!'
I can't believe he had the nerve to attempt this when he could obviously hear people on the main floor. A glock... that is one scenario I ran through my head. It didn't turn up well, with the end result in me being in prison for manslaughter. |
Re: Damned Burglars
Yeah, sounds like moving somewhere safer wouldn't be a terrible idea.

Re: Damned Burglars
Moving elsewhere has always been the heated family debate. Long story short, my parents live with ME and they are stubborn and indifferent to locational change. Anything 5 minutes out of da ghetto, I'll get 101 reasons why they won't go. I'll have to wait and see when I get home from work, have a serious family discussion. I'm just thankful that everyone is ok. I'm just p'd off!

A lot of the time you don't need to use it. Mostly scare the shit out of those idiots who think they're fuckin raw. |
Re: Damned Burglars
besides if they are in your house its not manslaughter :)

Re: Damned Burglars
You could get bars for all of your windows. Family wouldn't fare to well in a fire but it would probably deter many. Of course the best thing to do would be move out of the ghetto, but can be hard to do for some considering the differences in home values.

Re: Damned Burglars
dammit why can MN be a state that has castle laws
|
Re: Damned Burglars
I wouldn't mind having a nice Kimber 1911 around, hrm, I should pick up a shotty or two for fall/winter hunting seasons, or so the excuse would be. But that wouldn't help when this stuff happens when there's only gramps/grandma watching during the day.

Re: Damned Burglars
I 2nd the notion of a dog. Someone came into my house when I was sleeping about a year ago. The dog scared them off and woke me up. He's only like 12lbs, but he did the trick. Most burglars aren't willing to fuck with a dog of any size, it's just not worth the noise and the hassle, they'll pick a different house.
*edit* I should mention that I'm also strongly in favor of a shotgun :) |
Re: Damned Burglars
Move to Texas and get a gun. Or, at least get out of the ghetto.
|
Re: Damned Burglars
Dog or move.

QFMFT! About 3 years ago somebody (probably more than one) broke into my truck. Stole my deck and then decided to open my garage door. My dog woke me up and scared them off before I could really put the fear of god in them. |

I would also say get a dog even a little one cuz if it doesn't scare them away the high pitch bark will haha

Re: Damned Burglars
You live in MN right? Scared of burglars and people robbing you? Get your permit to carry like I did. And whoever said you would get a manslaughter charge is wrong, if somebody breaks into your house and you shoot them, you wouldn't get in trouble.
In Texas if somebody even comes on your lawn you can shoot them, if you did that in MN you would get in trouble for sure. But in the end a dog would be your best bet, and a gun somewhere easily accesible if something should happen. |
Re: Damned Burglars
If you have to shoot someone in your home just make sure you establish 2 things, first that they are dead, and second that you make it clear in the police report that you thought your life was in danger (ie you didn't just shoot them 4 times in the back as they were running away with your TV-that's not going to fly).
Do those 2 things and you should be just fine. You might still find yourself sued for wrongful death, but you have a good chance of winning. The bigger the gun the better, you only want to shoot once. The last thing you want to do is try to explain to the police or a jury why the guy you just killed was shot eight times. |

And there isn't any handgun that is going to be better for home protection than a shotty, keep that in mind. |

Re: Damned Burglars
Another one here recommending a shotty. They are cheap guns and as soon as you hear the sound of a shotty being pumped, that is good enough reason for a would-be burgler to get the f out asap.
|
Re: Damned Burglars
I am in favor of the gun idea. I have my shotty and I also have a .40 cal glock just in case anything should happen. Nothing has yet but you never know.

Dog. I love my dog, If someone broke in he would probebly attempt to lick them or whip them with his tail, but pit bulls have their upsides to the stereotype of them being vicious.

Re: Damned Burglars
put bars in the window, like a jail cell.
|
Re: Damned Burglars
Gun. Not only do you protect your family, you also get rid of one more scumbag and save taxpayers millions. Personally, I've got a nice aluminum bat by the bed, they wouldn't be leaving the house.
