4 Bar MAP

Goal is 400AWHP on MAP's dyno. Hughes and I have high expectations of this car, only because we've put so much work into it and he knows I'll go on a killing spree if it doesn't perform well. It's beaten DB9's, Ferrari 430's, Porsche GT3s, etc. I'm just tired of losing to Vipers so hopefully this will get me to where I want to be, if not... it's time for a BBK Lite (or most likely an FP White) and a 9000 RPM redline.

I like the list!

400HP with E85? or do you wanna stick to 91-92-93 octane pump gas?

Nice mod list too

3 bar MAP? 3 bar is only 43psi... Weak, son.

scheides 05-28-2009 12:44 AM

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

I'm guessing pump gas, a well setup evo can hit 360-ish whp on MAP's dynojet pretty easily.

goodhart 05-28-2009 12:55 AM

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

^^OK, but an even better set-up pump gas Evo can hit about 394-ish on DB's dyno!! Not with a stock turbo though...

Why go with the lite when you can just get the full.

a 3bar will actually only read 2 bar worth of positive pressure. the 3rd bar is for vac measurements.

I knew it read some amount of vacuum but was giving him benefit of the doubt. ;)

BBK Lite because I want great throttle response with a bit more power, 3 Bar MAP mostly for logging, Youporn FTW!

And yeah to clarify 400AWHP on MAP's dyno with a stock turbo/pump gas is my goal. I'm shooting for the stars gentlemen!

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

We can do it! 400whp on a Dynojet is a large goal on pump, but my fingers are crossed that we'll hit it and we'll definitely do everything possible to get in there. In about a month this car will pretty much be a fully prepped maxed out stock turbo Evo; only thing left untouched will be the short block. If we don't hit 400whp with the stock turbo, the BBK Lite will definitely be the little extra nudge you need. BBK Lite is a good choice b/c it flows more air up top than the stock turbo while maintaining the stock spool and response characteristics. This car will be one hell of a beast and I'm really looking forward to having it done. I expect nice fat 4k RPM wide powerband from 3k to 7k RPM's with a rev-limit set in the range of 8k or so.

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

Polished/de-badged the FMIC, relocated some stuff, made a nice bracket for the carputer monitor, cleaned up some wiring for the gauges and polished the block for the new head gasket today.

Picking up parts from mitsu tomorrow and then waiting patiently for MAP to get my stuff ported.

Stuff still to do:
Full detail of engine bay
Move EGT gauge wire
Weld front struts from Mitsu's fuckup
Fix battery tray
Install wiring for radar detector
Seal Grommet so the same thing that happened to Scheides doesn't happen to me.

I have a busy week coming up.

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

You should spend less money on things like porting, valve jobs, throttle bodies and cams (seeing as how the stock mivec cams rock)

A new turbo would be a better hp/dollar investment.

I think that will prolly be next on his list; he had to rip the head apart for a valve-job anyways. Nothing terribly wrong with going through everything in the head, he'll have T25-like spool/transient response, wide-ass powerband, and decent peak whp. We'll see 'how much' its all worth when all is said and done I guess, but remember dyno charts do not tell all with some of this stuff (IM/TB specifically).

edit, shawn post pics of the block, let's see how clean you got it!

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

Well after a LOT of hard work and waiting we got it all put back together. Hughes stayed in town a day later to help me out. Bob worked to get my stuff done last Monday and on Thursday we fired it up. Everything in the engine bay is cleaned, I spent quite a while on it, all wires are tidied up and I'm VERY happy with the results. MAP's porting job as always was stellar, just took a LONG time :) and the car runs great.

First time ever doing anything like this, but as soon as the fuel pressure built again everything worked perfectly. We broke in the cams, drained the oil and put in new oil/filter and it was on it's way.

I did a compression test today and it's 130 or so all away across the board, so it was obviously the head that was causing it. All I can say is I'm a VERY VERY VERY happy man and I love my Evo again and I'm proud of my friends and I's effort and hard work.

A BIG fucking thanks to Hughes for all of his hard work and dedication, the man had my car running with one tune and he also helped me with most of the labor and choosing of parts/services and thanks to Scheides for all of his help with the block and timing belt stuff! Also without Mark's tensioner tool my car would have probably blown up, so thanks for letting me borrow that too man!

scheides 07-05-2009 06:19 PM

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

Woohoo! Glad you got it running man, now get it on the dyno and let it be all it can be :D Talk about a freaking maxed out stock turbo setup on pump gas, this thing should kick ass.

Definitely a successful project! Car feels good and has a nice fat powerband; a great street/autocross setup.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's my tensioner tool, and I've been wondering where that's been. Haha It's all good though, not like I need it. Congrats on getting it all up and running again!

Yeah it's really really hard to not drive it, I put about 350 miles on this weekend! The powerband is AMAZING I effin' love the car!

Haha, I'm not sure if it's your tool Kevin, I think Mark made it, he said something about making it at his job. I have no clue, all I know is it did the job!

Been a while since I've updated this thread as I've just been enjoying the car's awesomeness for the past year.

But in the upcoming months I'll be figuring out the broken tranny situation. I was going to have MAP store it and work on it, but they didn't have room and Shep doesn't do 6 speed fixes so for now it's sitting in my garage :(

I'm tossing around a lot of options right now, but http://teamrip.com/ seems to be a good option for rebuilding my tranny, I'm also thinking about pulling it myself but may pay MAP or someone to do it still. I know it's a PITA but there's noway it's any worse than what I just endured.

Any ideas/options people have would be great. A 5 speed swap would be sweet too, but that's looking like it'll cost a LOT more and be a lot more of a PITA than just rebuilding the 6 speed to be strong.

You know my vote; keep the 6!

I thought shep was only a few months out on the new 6-speed gearset/ final drive?

t-revzr 11-03-2010 08:54 PM

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

Pull the tranny yourself and save money! I know you can do it!

GG_9_SE 11-03-2010 09:11 PM

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

It is rather easy to pull an evo tranny, now that I've done it once on my IX, once on scheides X, an about to be a second time on my IX this winter. Just make sure you have a slide hammer to pull the input shaft once you pull the driver side axle and after that its like 9 bolts. If you want help I'm down :D

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

I would go through TRE again in a heartbeat, even though I have driven my TRE trans a grand total of 4.3 miles so far, after talking to him, and the other tranny re-builders in the biz (Shep, Jack, and Jon @ TRE) Jon seemed the most knowledgeable to me. Plus he shot peens all his stuff standard, which none of the other guys do. I don't think Jack even does 6 speeds. How bout Buschur? Does he still do his Bushwacker trannies, or does he do 6 speeds? AFAIK, Shep only does stock rebuilds on 6 speeds also, or he can convert it to a 5 speed for $450 extra. Good luck man.

turbotalon1g 11-04-2010 11:00 AM

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

I'd say jacks transmission they seem to be one of the best on their customer service and builds, they are also trying to invent new things for the transmissions in these cars which makes me think they want to stay around a while.

TRE was good when I wanted to buy something from him, but after I had the trans in my hand he was impossible to get a hold of again.

Re: Project P00n (Exotic Killer)

Time to bump this. Not because of something awesome or good. A few things went down which most of you already know the first which I'll touch now.

Back in Fall my shift fork broke and I had to limp it back to MAP. They couldn't touch it due to it not being a serviceable item, which is definitely a good reason not to touch something. Shane @ DB says it should be doable so I was planning on getting it towed there early next week which brings me to topic two... read on.

Thursday night my roommate (Shane a lot you know him), left the garage door open... for about a day. Needless to say people ransacked my car and stole a lot of stuff, just a few days too late I guess. In doing so, they also destroyed a lot of the car. I would assume they're young because they didn't think to look for a trunk release!? So they tore up my rear seat and also the keyhole on my trunk looks like someone shot with a shotgun point blank and they also managed to break my spoiler in half. Good times. I'm sure there's more damage but my garage is dark and well, I can't move the car.

The items they stole was my p600.2 rockford amp, my computer screen, I'm sure my computer however I forgot to look, my custom enclosure and my sub. A little over $1200 in stuff, excluding my deductible for the damage to the car.

$MD just can't win can he.
