New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Well I traded in my 1997 Avenger for a new daily driver last week, a 2004 WRX. Here's some pics. :)

It's all bone stock right now except for an SPT cat back exhaust and an STi strut tower bar.

Definitely a step in the right direction from the Avenger! Post a picture of the exhaust and I can help you figure out which it is. i like how the earlier WRX's came with MOMO steering wheels. Looks like you also have the optional MOMO shift knob/lever.

Looks nice! Why did you choose to get an auto?

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

The price was right, and I figured it would be nice for a daily driver, plus I won't have to be worried to let other people drive it. It's my 6th car and the first auto out of all of em.

I am in the same boat. My gf doesn't drive a stick and I am looking to get something that is 1)hard to find in a manual, and 2)I drive in traffic 30+miles a day, want something "plush" and easy to drive.

Well, haven't gotten that picture of the exhaust, but after looking at some pitures online, it looks like its an SPT catback, oh I forgot to mention its also got an STi front strut tower bar too.

Check out this thread for SPT catback pics (among other things):

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Thats actually the pics I used!! Thats a good WRX thread, but I think I'm going to do a downpipe and Cobb Accessport stage 2 when I get the money. Then later down the road do either an SPT intake or the Cobb with the heat shield box.

For now I just need to find where to tap into this thing for my Prosport Mechanical boost gauge.

Kracka 02-23-2009 07:01 PM

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Skip the Accessport and use OpenECU/ECUFlash like most of us Evo guys do. Janelle's WRX will actually be ECUFlash dyno-tuned once we get her new downpipe on.

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Keep it stock and convert the DSM to E85 and maybe get a bigger turbo. :)

YES! And speaking of that, can I get a ride in my old car sometime? I miss it....

Shane@DBPerformance 02-24-2009 10:09 AM

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Or maybe a Shep stage 5 tranny.

goodhart 02-24-2009 11:56 AM

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Well, this is the setup I was thinking of for the DSM:

fp 3076HTA
fp Cast race manifold
fp 4" intake tube
Tial xxmm Ext wastegate
E85 tune
some kind of 02 housing, probably custom
shep stage 4+

Yes, scheides, you can get a ride in it, I just don't know when It'll be on the road again!

I was actually thinking of finding a used downpipe on MNSubaru, and also maybe an used unmarried v2 accessport, just so I could do it all myself.

All this shit is only going to happen if I have the money though. Hopefully the G.I Bill will go up some more for fall semester.

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Well, I did my first free mods to the WRX.

1. Took out the intake silencer, aka "snorkus"

I can really hear the turbo spool real loud now, as well as made the catback a little louder it seems.

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/DSC01273.JPG

2. Deleted the Subaru badge/pillar in the grille

I really like the way this looks compared to stock.

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...ill_delete.JPG

I want to clear out the headlight housings next and paint them black, as well as bebadge the trunk lid.

Kracka 03-03-2009 10:40 PM

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

To remove the snorkus did you have to remove the wheel well lining? When we installed Janelle's SPT intake we left it in the fender for simplicity sake, but I'd like to eventually remove it for a cleaner install.

goodhart 03-04-2009 07:53 AM

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Ya, I just took the passenger wheel off, then took out a few clips for the fender lining, unbolted the snorkus, and shimmied it out of there. I didn't even take the fender lining completely off, just about halfway off. Whole thing took about maybe 20-30 mins.

Debadged the trunk the other day:

Looks good! We wanted to debadge Janelle's trunk but the '06-07 rear emblem has pins that go through the lid.

That bezel looks nice, I will have to show that to Janelle. How much was it?

I like that gauge bezel.

Shane@DBPerformance 03-11-2009 06:09 PM

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

I had one like that for my 2G, but you couldn't actually put any normal gauges in it without them hitting the factory cluster. I think I tried to give it to Janna to try in her 2G auto, but it might not have worked with hers either.

Re: New daily driver: 2004 WRX

Well thanks to 95tsi, we got the boost gauge all wrapped up and it works great!

Fitment on the bezel wasn't exactly perfect, but its still darn nice.

Lights on its green, lights off its white.

Well I put my summer wheels on the WRX yesterday...

Also picked this SPT intake up for pretty cheap from a friend in St. Cloud too... I haven't put the heat shield on yet, it was missing some nuts and washers. Please excuse the dirty ass engine bay as well, it got pretty nasty after that rain on friday.

Took this picture today after I tossed in the fog covers.
I hated the way the stock fog lights looked.
