Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

I was eyeing up the FP intake, but eh... Kinda ugly. Anyone know where I can get some mandrel bent 4" alum. tubing for an intake?

Ebay has some but it looks a bit spendy.

It's around, but it ain't cheap by any means. It's usually two 90's welded together.

They are located just west of Litchfield on highway 12, you can go right there and get any piping you want. You could show them on your car and they could make it for you if they don't have anything stocked. They custom make mandrel bent exhaust, but they are spendy of course.

You could copy mine if you'd like. Mine puts it right in the fender well.

I'm looking for some as well. Alum, or steel?

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

I just found a place that sells some mandrel bent 4" alum. pipe. $150.00 for a 180 degree bend, 6" circ centerline, 8" and 6" legs!! I was like omfg didn't think that expensive.

I would like to do an intake like Brandon's. I basically need 2 45's and 1 90.

What place? There aren't many who do aluminum in that size(and mandrel bent) so I'd like to keep in mind any that anyone finds.

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

I don't have any 4" alum instock right now, just some SS. I think the 90s usually go for 60-70 and the 45s for 40-50 in alum.

Kyle at MAP built mine, so you could try hitting them up as they had the 4" pipe to make mine.

I think that's where I found it in their catalog.

Dejon has a few 4" intakes in their website at reasonable prices, maybe they'd be able to make you something. I bought an aluminum CAI that put the filter where the stock SMIC was located from them many years ago, but I no longer see it listed on their site.

Yeah who needs an intake, because we all know how cool the air stays under the hood...

Especially when the air filter is directly behind the radiator and only inches from the exhaust manifold/turbine housing.

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

^hmmm, so maybe I should make a hole in my radiator then? lol

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

I'm just saying its a good idea to to get the air filter out from behind the radiator :)

Back in the day, with the red talon I normally ran with a filter/intake, until it fell off. So I then ran with no filter or intake and tested the car on the chassis dyno with and with out an intake, it made the same power either way.

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

Do you want to suck in 70 degree air from outside like Halons car, or 150 degree air off the back of the radiator.

My research back when I was looking for an intake showed the exact opposite. Everyone who was running an intake to their SMIC area was netting gains.

In the end it was simple for me. Ingest hot air from the engine bay, or cooler "outside" air. Does your car run better on a hot summer day, or a cool autumn evening?

Swifty1638 01-30-2009 12:30 PM

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

Autumn, but that's cuz the pretty leaves on trees..or maybe cuz that's the time of year i get my shit together and get tuned before winter.

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

I know it should make more power, I had a FMIC and a setup that was past the limit. I was just saying, the one time I tested it, there was no change.

Thats what I want to make a 4" fender well intake.

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

I logged cooler IATs just by using an elbow to put the intake in the fender, left the MAS where it was only change was the elbow, help IATs and keep knock away.

Re: Where to get 4" tubing for intake?

you guys using 4" ID or OD tubing? I might get call DB 'cause SS might work fine.

I've been searching the net all night for a good source, but to no avail. I have a fp intake, but want to get into the fender.

Halon: any chance you can post up a pic of yours?
