Obama is an idiot and is already making changes that will hurt this country. Allowing CA (and other states) to run rampant with emissions regulations will just drive up the cost to produce cars; great thing to do when we're currently giving them money so they can get their businesses back in order. I also love how he wants to give stimulus money to non-taxpayers!

I think we should start thinking about an initiative to cap/shut down or put filters on active volcanoes. We could use some kind of carbon fee to fund it, or put a really high tax on any corporations that benefit from pollution. It would create millions of jobs, and it would really help offset the carbon generated by humans. Give millions of people a good wage, put a big dent in global warming - win/win amirite?

Lets just go back to domestic cars that get 10 mpg. I have had my eye on a near mint 1979 Lincoln Mark V that can get upwards of 7 mpg on the freeway. If they still made cars like that, I am sure the domestic automakers would be doing much better nowdays.

yes i know. but the visual inspections are done by the police. dont forget i am living in CA, where modified cars get pulled over and get their car inspected for CARB stickers.

yes there are things that produce more carbon emmissions then cars. But cars are something that we can actually fix to produce less. Perhaps there is a different curing process for concrete they could look at. For the cows it could be something in their food. There are a lot of ways we can reduce the amount of Carbon emmissions. We just have to figure out how to do it, Catalytic converters are just an easy first baby step.
I totally agree it hurts performance of our cars, but if you have ever flown into california in the daylight you will understand how much smog we actually have. It almost made me sick when we were getting ready to land and you look out and see LITERALLY a layer of brown air. It looked like seperated liquids. NASTY. And this is the air we breathe on a daily basis. I would hate it if i flew into MN and it was the same way.

First off, He started the closing of GitMo and other CIA secret camps. Which was applauded by almost every nation.
He is working toward helping us get out of this mess that was caused by a retarded administration over the past 8 years. Now we can actually start passing items that will benefit our country. The mess we are in was not caused by him, he actually inherited this mess from YES A REPUBLICAN! As opposed to Bush who claims to have inherited 9/11, the first AND second Recession, and every horrible thing that happened while he was in office. Whats next, is he going to say he inherited Katrina? Because obviously the federal responce was great during that tradgedy. I want to hear it from you, not Obama's notebook of plans, his website, or some other left wing media nutswinger. I want to know why YOU think closing Gitmo is a great idea and what we are suppose to do with the 250+ detainees.

I hope with a democratic congress and president things "change", it is a perfect alignment of the stars. I am just glad that in 4 years (or 8) I can look at the mess and say "YOU OWN IT".

Are you kidding? Prisoners of war, especially high-positioned figures in Al Qaeda do not get tried in the American judicial system. They are not US citizens, they are the enemy that planned the deaths of 3000 Americans. This has always been this way for good reason. In most countries on earth, a war prisoner is tortured or killed, here we give them three squares a day and a few drips of water on the face.

Of course the world is happy we're closing Gitmo, especially Al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah, nobody else would really care because it has nothing to do with them. Funny how quickly we forget what happened 7.5 years ago, but I think Biden is right, that will change soon. We're sending the world a message that we'll gladly fall on our sword, and we're ready to lower our defenses. It won't be good.

My main reason for not eating meat. The average diet results in the equivalent environmental effect of both driving and powering (electricity, heating, cooling, etc...) of a home combined. A vegan diet is ~1/10 of that. If people wish to escape regulation they will need to step up with the personal responsibility and do something substantial. If people can't, by and large, make effective choices themselves they will be regulated. Personally I'd rather have a choice in the matter.

Me too, but you can't have your cake and eat it too (ummm, no pun intended). If a society cannot regulate itself someone will step up to do it for them. You cannot refuse to do anything yourself, but then whine when someone else does it for you.

As for big environmental choices there are really three main areas you can have a substantial effect. Home: Go all custom super green energy efficient building hippie style. Car: Ditch it for a bike or public transportation or most substantially Diet: Stop eating meat.

Of course someone who likes all of those things may choose to make more moderate changes within all three. Eat less meat, increase efficiency in the home, and drive less or use a fuel efficient vehicle.

By increasing efficiency standards, CAFE(!!!!, not Obama) will make 'merican car companies more competitive worldwide, where everyone else likes less pollution. I don't know why you guys like pollution so much.

Are you guys really worried that increasing the average fuel economy of the national fleet of automobiles will really affect your sports car? I highly doubt it. Just remember, any changes would only affect the average, and it will not affect your evos or m3s or what have you.

I think they should bring back emissions in MN. Most people on here would be paying fines and making required repairs which would help boost our economy ;)

It is also nice sitting behind an old dsm smelling the fumes as they have removed the cat and the valve seals are leaking.

Not to try and start a new argument, but other than your opinion about how Obama treated the guantanamo bay thing, what do you have as proof that he has done anything wrong so far? You are so sure that he has messed everything up, but he's following through on what he said he would do. That is honorable. Bush couldn't do that; so far Obama is.

And you must not watch a whole lot of news if you think he's on his phone all day. The guy probably gets about 5 hours of sleep a night.
