Well this weekend I went out to Gueningsman Auto, in Winsted MN, they have a inground dynojet, to dyno my 90 talon. This shop deals with truck pulling, NA 540 big blocks and make 750 at the rear wheels with only one carb. But my talon has the Galant shortblock in it, and stock head minus crower retainers, and HKS 272 cams. Same turbo as the galant, garrett T3/T4 60trim stg 3 .82A/R 4 bolt turbine housing. 3" dp with exaust cut out(hooks up to stock cat back for a quite ride), proper fuel, GM maft and 3" maf, AFC, big IC, 2.5" IC piping, 2g TB elbo, stock intake manifold, jidum GVR4 tranny. and my base timing set to 5deg. cams at 0. And my intake pipe fell off heading out there, so some one has a nice K&N air filer.
Pump gas made 415hp 366trq. A/F were good 11.2-11.5 range, no logger so I dont know if 24psi was to much, I think 22-23 would be better. C-16 made 526hp 464 trq. I dont know A/F because there wideband would not read leaded gas that well, or atleast thats what they said. So I made no AFC setting changes I just turned the boost up, first pull blew the coupler off at the MAF holding 34psi, then I re-tighted all claps and at 35psi made the power above. Also I spun the tires on the dyno just befor it made peek power, a little smoke and rubber dust. There is a dip in the HP line right when this happend. I dont know what if any corrections were made. So now I get to go to Elite and tune the A/F on race gas and I hope to make a little more power with 34psi and a little more timing and less fuel. ~John |
wow, nice numbers
|
Excellent numbers! Why did you go there first vs Elite? Just curious....
|
Well it was only 100 for an hour, and I did not know there wideband did not work with heavy leaded gas(ie VP c-16). So I dont think I will go back unless it just for pump gas, or sunaco 114 unleaded.

Nice numbers John and good luck at the track!
|
I will need it, I did find a nice set of rims and tires to barrow, for the track. I dont think walmart tires will take 530hp to well.
~John |
Congratulations. Your really pushing that turbo. What headgasket are you running? Whats up with the stock intake manifold? Didn't you have a sheetmetal one last year?
Sunoco makes a 114 unleaded? |
John those are some nice numbers. It will be interesting to see what the A/F looks like on elite's dyno on c16. Those are some pretty big numbers for the MAFT, looks like the 3" GM MAF is fine for me.
How was the shop you dyno'ed at? What did they think of your car? I too would like to know what headgasket you are running? Again, good job! Jim |
Damn it and here I felt all special cause I knew what you'd put down. And I was impressed with my self that I was actually keeping my mouth shut. (something that I've been trying to work on after that whole mod list ordeal) hey but at least something good came out of that ordeal. (mn 1/4 mayhem)

I believe John is just running a stock Mitsu headgasket. But not sure if it's the metal one or not?
Yes John will be big balling with the rims he's barrowing for the track.... Yep he wants to barrow my Chrome Duby Dubssss....... :liar: J/k...you can if you really want to. Might help slow down the wheel spin since they are so heavy... :bounce: -brian |
Damn, nice numbers. So let's see that dyno sheet.
|
He showed me all 3 sheets yesterday while he was helping me put Jenny's car back together.
Hopefully I didn't get them to dirty...... (where the hell is that Monkey spanking it smiley when you need it?) |
Nice numbers. Ever gonna upgrade turbos? if so PM me ;)
|
I think John set the bar up pretty high.... Can't wait to see it in person when ever the opener gets organized.
-brian |
He is using a copper sprayed stock composite head gasket. And a lot of torque on the ARP’s. The sheet metal intake manifold stayed on the shelf cause he wants to build a better one I think. And yes he is pushing the hell out of that turbo, the compressor map ends at a 2.8 PR, 35 PSI is a 3.38 PR, assuming we are getting a full 14.7psia, which we are probably a bit short of.
|
Nice job, John! You are making it rough for me and Nash! I am glad to see some good competition, it makes me work that much harder. I am curious to see what you make once you get that thing tuned!
|
Congrats on the great numbers. Maybe now i can get a ride agian with the C16 ;).
|
wow, uber awesome numbers dude. now put it all back in the galant!!!!
|
Wow that is pretty awesome! Cant wait to see it at the track.
|
you are almost ready for a peice of the 3g, nash was to scared on friday and turned down the chance.
|
HOLY SHIT!!!
Nice numbers!!! |
Well the shop was 3 sections, two small and one big. 20'x40' with the small ones and 40x100 for the big. The dyno is in the end small one, its been there a while so it looked a little durty but a nice shop to work in for sure. And my head gasket is a stock one, copper sprayed, and ARPs trq to 110ft/lbs with moly lube. And the sheetmetal is on the shelf due to leaks, and I do want to make a better one, with a bigger TB and what not. But I think I will wait untill I get my ported head back on there. Also I desided to post numbers on dsm style because I know most everyone that reads on here, and it would get out at some point. I figured I should tell. I will work on the dyno graph and see if I can get it on here. Thanks for the support, and see you at the track.
~John |
Definately nice John, keep it up. It will no doubt be a fun year.
|
110ft/lbs on molylube is a bit excessive. Hopefully you didn't stretch them.
|
I will have to look into that when I put the ported head back on. But it did not seem to push any coolent, so I hope it makes it down the track. I do have a used set of ARPs, a spare block and head, I could go trq them untill they break or stretch to much.
~John |
nice numbers.
Lets see 600whp next. |
45psi?

Last year he ran 42psi because thats all the turbo would make. The wastegate wasn't even opening. The stupid large turbo that he is trying to run this year should be able to keep up with the little 2.0, make over 42psi and hopefully not drop power in the upper RPMs like the maxed out turbo last year.

Very nice dyno numbers, that thing is gonna be crazy !
|
I know this turbo will not make 600 with out help. But I want to try for 550 after the ported head and intake manifold are on there. Then I was thinking of a 75-100 shot, or a bigger turbo.

I want one  [/b][/quote] I am giving this my best guess, but that is probably when Rau asked you to leave? Josh that's insane, and can't wait to see how you do when everything is set up the way you want it. |
Well I am going to redyno my car, friday 3-26-04 some time after 4pm. I will let you know when ither tomorrow or friday when I get off work. I am hoping to only make 3 pulls, but a few people wanted to watch last time but could not make it. 34psi agian I just want the A/F right, and by the opener/dyno event see if my cam timing, ignition timing, etc will help make more power.
~John |
I can be up at Elite at 4pm sharp. and hopefully I'll either have my camcorder back by then or Tyler will still have it, and hopefully up at the shop.
|
Damn you really want a peice of the 3g
|
take a vid of the 3g race!! :bounce:
:3gears: |
umm...allen, im josh, he is john
if I were making 526whp, you'd know it, because i'd stop losing to the almighty 1.8...but alas, my lowly >300whp makes me a loser :(. I might have to swing by elite friday to see this john :). |
It looks like 6pm will work for me and elite, sound good to the people that want to see it? I guess the only problem is I might be pushing coolent. I noticed my coolent resivour was a little more full then befor I went to the dyno, I dont know if thats just because there was only 1 small fan infront of my car, or what. So I might have to put in a new headgasket soon.
