Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
-Battery Relocation,
-Throttle cable under manifold, -Coil on plug or move coil pack down, -Injector harness under manifold, -If thats an oil pressure or temperature sensor on the head, maybe you can move that down to the oil filter housing, -Maybe move your power steering hose under the motor mount (it fits) -Remove firewall padding, -Lower main wireharness on firewall -Move to MBC that isnt in the cabin -Move firewall components to lower places. -Remove tabs holding lines and wires |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Loop throttle cable below intake manifold. Drop battery down on the cross member. Injector wire and thermostat housing harness could be ran under the intake manifold. Lower coil pack and anything on top of the firewall could be moved down. There are plenty of other holes for mounting. You didn't say anything about power steering but I'm gonna guess you wanna keep that..
Here is the link to my tuck I did from beginning to end. http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showth...ight=wire+tuck Annndd here is the pic of my bay to give you some idea's. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...rbolast001.jpg |

Depends on how much you want done.

Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
fuse box relocation..cleaning up of other wires..
-A. Swift |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Fuse box was tough man.. I don't know if I wanna do that again. haha. The other stuff though isn't all that hard. If you follow the thread I made it should be pretty simple.

Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Turn the pipe with the BOV upside down so you don't see it.
|
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Do you have some kind of wing nut claps holding your intercooler pipes together..... hows that going for ya
|
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Lol yeah they were on it when i got it. Tried to tighten one the other day and one of the "wings" snapped off. They will be removed.

Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
What fan are you running Crazy?
|
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Lol. I made the fan from a newer galant that was thin and had 5 fan blades. Then cut up the shrouding from my stock fan and made it fit. Pretty ghetto but I didn't have the money for a slim fan at the time. Sometime soon I'll be getting a slim fan though.
|
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
dude..slim fans at autozone are like 46 bucks..
-A. Swift |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Dude! All I got is change in my wallet and I think 25 bucks in my checking account.. The day will come when I'll just get an aluminum radiator and 2 slim fans. Til then, I remain a poor man. :(

Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
did you paint your red while the engine was still in it? how did you do it? I wanna bondo up the holes not being used, and clean it all up, spray primer, paint, clear..but i'm NOT pulling it out! and if i wait till spring to paint, then the intake will all be back on it too..
-A. Swift |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
All that red is original my man.. Click on the link I posted above and it's got everything I've done in it from start to where it is now. For the holes I just taped around them, bondo'd, sanded, and then painted. Could have been done better but I wasn't really patient when I did it.
|
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
what did you use to clean it up then? I think mine's jsut got some thick grease or dirt or something on it.
-A. Swift |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Honestly it was just that clean.. All I've done to clean it was some wipe on wax stuff. But I did clean my other talon since that was NASTY and I used simple green, water/bleach, and a tooth brush. Worked pretty damn good!
|
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
you should show me how to do that..perhaps i don't need to paint the bay afterall.
-A. Swift |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Show you how to clean? haha. Just spray simple green everywhere, let it sit for a little bit. Start scrubing with the tooth brush in every hard place to get to. Then spray it down with water/bleech and scrub again and then spray it all off. Should be nice and shiny when your done!

Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Here is a before and after pic. Kinda crappy but you get the idea..

Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
how long did you let the simple green sit for? And, did it matter if you got it into any electronic connections or anything?
-A. Swift |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
I let it sit for like 5-10mins.. and I wasn't around any electrical connectors and even if I was I don't think it woulda mattered. If you're worried about it just wrap them with electrical tape before you spray in that area.

Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Hey 4g63tcrazy, Seriously every time i see your red engine bay, my jaw drops. That was a seriously good job you did. mad props.
|
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
Haha thanks! I put alot hard work into it..
|
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
I just got done looking over the link that you posted. Good work!
Now I should go look at my project. I don't even have the MAS sensor to worry about. How do you like the wrap around the exhaust manifold? I kind of want to do that because my heat shield looks like crap, and I don't think it will fit around my Evo 3 manifold. I am with you on not having too much money to stick into the car. Thats why cleaning up the engine bay sounds like a good project for a budget. |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
I jsut tried spraying some simple green on some areas, and let it sit, then wiped/scrubbed with a towl..didn't notice a real difference..maybe I'm doing it wrong?
-A. Swift |
Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
The wrap took me a good hour or so. It's pretty hard but it wasn't bad. All I did was use 1 50ft role and used about 3/4 of it. You just gotta keep working it through the little holes in between runners.

Re: Cleaning up the Engine Bay
^ Try using a low grade acid, we use it all the time on dumptrucks and tractors in the engine bay. You can pick it up at Northern in a 5 gallon pale, never had any problems electrical wise. Its called Monster oxidizer. I believe the price is $40.00 but it will last.
