Re: I hate this economy.
"I have a belly full of white dog crap, and now you lay this shit on me?"
I was supposed to lose my job 11/25. But, they weren't ready to get rid of us yet, so weekly we find out we get to keep our jobs for another couple weeks. This time I was told until the end of January. Have to get a few more paychecks to fix the transmission in my truck that just took crapped on my heart, then hit the ol' dusty trail. |

Re: I hate this economy.
Just adding to this,
My dad is getting laid off tomorrow from his job because of company cutbacks I am thinking of going back to school to become more certified in landscaping. Probably going to go for landscape architect license. It is getting hard out there with landscaping because everyone who is getting laid off figures landscaping is an easy way to make money. Just put a logo on the side of a truck and call yourself a landscape expert. Sucks for the people who know what they are doing but still getting under bidded. :deadhorse: |

Re: I hate this economy.
Here, pretty much all of Idaho's jobs are on a hiring freeze and laying off pretty well.
If worse comes to worse, we may have to be moving somewhere according to job markets |

Re: I hate this economy.
ahhhh. Funny too!
I have a college friend who is a PhD polymer chemist. And she is from a very conservative asian family. Where does she work? Adam and Eve inventing new kinds of 'jellies' for sex toys. |
Re: I hate this economy.
^Nice.
Iceminion I met a guy that works at your company, but I forgot his name. Anywho I work for Accellent Cardiology and they make medical equipment, we work 48 hours a week with extra overtime on the weekends. I also am not liking my position of waiting to hear back from radiology schools and wanting to get married but not having money and not knowing if I will be in school next fall. Good luck to you all in a tough spot. |

I actually have two jobs, one full and one part, working 13 hour days Monday - Friday. I do feel fortunate, and I have to say at least in MN there are jobs out there, just don't be picky! |
Re: I hate this economy.
They are for the most part getting rid of the night shift shipping position at my work on January 5th. Can't complain though, I hated the job and need to go back to school anyways.
6PM-6AM hours are quite possibly the worst hours I can possibly think of to work. |
Re: I hate this economy.
I hear ya. I've pretty much stopped all my major spending as I am unsure what will happen with my new job. I just transferred into this new position, and they may have to lay people off now. I know I'm not the first one on the chopping block, but it just depends on how many they decide to lay off. So I'm just trying to spend a bit more wisely now a days.

Re: I hate this economy.
Geez, sorry to hear so many people having problems. I have to say though, the slow economy is actually good for me. I've got job security coming out my nose as a dispatcher. For how shitty it is working for a government agency this is where it really pays off.

We have a terrible time finding workers:

Re: I hate this economy.
I'm down to only keeping money for gas and 1 bill every 2 weeks. The rest goes to my mom so we can keep our house. She lost her company car, and barely made any money before that, so now we have to get another car. And mine just had the timing belt tensioner go out and the belt skipped some teeth. Now I gotta see if I fucked up my valves as my car happens to be an interference engine.

Re: I hate this economy.
I'm serious about my earlier post. If anyone does not mind relocating and needs a job, drop me an e-mail (jmbolson @ gmail.com). Hagie Manufacturing Company is located in Clarion, IA, an hour SW of Mason City.

My company is always hiring.

Re: I hate this economy.
I was laid off 2 weeks ago from a small construciton company. Trying to decide whether to check into a new line of work or, wait and get hired back on come spring time. Not to mention, try to find a job which pays decently well in the area...ughhh.

Re: I hate this economy.
As some of you know I work at a Casino; I work in the Slots Department in Managment. The thing I find funny about this so called "terrible" economy is that there are still a shit ton of people going to the Casino's and spending their money. Sure buisness fell off a bit when gas was $4 per gallon but it wasn't that significant.
I remember when I first got my job at a casino 13 years ago; 4 of my buddies were going to college and eventually graduated with degrees in IT. I was jealous at the time because I figured their future would be a lot brighter than mine. Fast forward 13 years, all but one of them does not have a job in the field of their degree and none of them have had a steady job for more than a year. And the 4 of them combined don't make as much per year as I do. My point is that in my opinion the economy has just shifted; the jobs that were once thought of as for sure things are no longer the way to go and some of the jobs that were looked down upon are now some of the most secure. Shit if I were a kid graduating high school I would go to school for health care, that is about the only for sure thing their is out there IMO. |
