Alright, alright...time for MY project thread

Been doing a bit of work on the car lately. Just trying to take care of some minor 'would be nice to have' kind of mods over the winter instead of adding anything that makes power (well, except for the front mount...).

First up: stealth Perrin intercooler. I don't have any pics with the bumper on yet since it got late and I needed to attend to the rill after installing.

http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/DSCN1304.jpg

Unfortunatly, timing was not on my side and my Nisei polished upper intercooler pipe showed up the Monday following...

http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/DSCN1306.jpg

I also picked up some new headlights for the car. Got some silverstar ultra's for low beams and some PIAA 2500K yellow bulbs for the high beams. So far I only have the high beams installed and I really, really like them. I'm not sure if the wattage is slightly higher (55W) of if the colour provides better contrast or something but they seem to light up the road and the side of the road a lot better than whatever came stock. The only issue I had with the install was the gasket included was huge and wouldn't let the bulb seat all the way so I pulled them off and put the gasket from the stock lights on.

Stock low beam:

I remember reading somewhere that the human eye sees yellow light better than blue light. Something about the blue kind of "over exposes" the eye or something like that, resulting in not being able to see into the shadows as well. I'll look for more info on that.

Nice, so did yours not come with HID's from the factory?

I believe that all 03's came with hid's from the factory and then in 04-06 it was a option.

Kracka 12-16-2008 09:37 PM

Re: Alright, alright...time for MY project thread

RS and GSR's do not come with HID's (post '03). To get HID's you either need the SSL package, MR, or SE.

Re: Alright, alright...time for MY project thread

I understand all of that, but none of that answers the question.

Only reason I asked is because if they aren't, those Halogen projectors have quite a nice cut-off on them, and aftermarket PNP HID kits would probably work work out real nice on that.

Kracka 12-16-2008 09:51 PM

Re: Alright, alright...time for MY project thread

Those are the regular GSR projectors designed for use with halogen bulbs.

Added something new today. Probably the most bad-ass mod there is!

Haha thats awesome!

Looking good so far! Id say, throw a nice aftermarket HID kit in there and the lighting will be even more amazing. :D

I'm trying to decide between getting some JDM HID housings, paying $500 to have my stockers upgraded to Acura TL HID projectors, or just throwing in some HID bulbs and hoping the cut-offs work well enough.

Got the license plate frame installed today. Thanks to Kracka for an awesome christmas gift!!!

I also snapped a few pics of the FMIC with the bumper on. Had to see it, haha, but that's the point. As much as I like the look of a nice shiny FMIC crammed under a bumper I am really liking the look of the stealth on the silver car.

Yet another Beatrush product I'm impressed with! Thanks for the stock undertray piece and the jalapeno burgers rocked!

Awesome man! That plate holder a nice piece, too bad the IX's don't come with the small underframe that the VIII's do. Nice FMIC and seat too!

I looked at those Recaro babyseats as well, they aren't cheap.

I thought I seen a mini Sparco a while back and it was something like 400 bucks I thought. I don't have kids yet so I guess I don't have to worry about car seats though

Re: Alright, alright...time for MY project thread

I asked Zac today and he said it was around $250 which I didn't think was too bad considering its definitely a top quality product and the box says it can be used until they are 70 pounds/8 years old.

hellomynameis 01-12-2009 07:40 AM

Re: Alright, alright...time for MY project thread

The car seat cost me $245 shipped from Amazon. I could have gone for an ugly colour for like $212 plus shipping though. In doing some research it looks like Recaro and Britax car seats are the best. Britax is more expensive and they don't match the Evo.

I figured $245 wasn't a big expense so long as I can get 5-8 years out of it. I think it's roughly twice the price of some of the cheaper ones you can get at target.

Well...then that ain't too bad at all, actually sounds like a pretty good deal considering the money you could be saving by not having to keep buying bigger seats for the kid as they grow up.

ok so at costco they have a recaro baby seat for like $40. What's the difference?

The kid's life :D

A quick look at Recaro's site makes me think you were looking at a low-end booster seat though since those are the only sub-$100 seats they make.

Ya I guess, but I mean it was name brand recaro....I mean I would not have the first clue what to look at other than the fact that it has a noose, handcuffs, and a gag so the kid will stay put and STFU!

Back window.

That is a kick ass baby seat though. Do they make helmets and suits for babies too?

So, I decided that I'm done with power for the year and was going to focus on suspension upgrades. As Chris mentioned, got the swift springs in a few weeks ago. We got the Carbing lower control arm brace in over the weekend. I'm quite happy with it, the car feels more stable and planted giving me more confidence in the corners.

I'm thinking about doing a MAP downpipe since the bottom of the hangers on my eBay downpipe sits so close to the bar. I eventually want that and a Perrin stealth catback. Otherwise I think I'll be doing some Perrin swaybar end links to replace the pencil thin stock ones.

Ever since I got tuned I've been having idle issues, and I have had a hunch that it was my HKS intake. I decided to pick up a Samco intake hose to replace the HKS. So far, I really like it, i was able to switch back to closed loop idle and it is ideling perfect. My low fuel trims are a bit out of wack, but we'll see how that evens out over time. Anyway, on to the pics! I'll be getting an Amsoil air filter to replace the Apex'i soon as well.

The only complaint I have is that the BOV sits a tad high and hits the bottom of the upper radiator hose...

Drop looks good man, how about a wide angle shot w/ the whole car!

The intake hose looks like it necks down in the middle (between maf and bov recirc), is that just the angle?

Also on the one of the stock crossbars/braces there is a middle/third bolt. Does the carbing brace delete that? Looks pretty trick man!

New helmet arrived in the mail today. Got a great deal on a nice and light SA2005 Pyrotect helmet. Should be prefect for AutoX!

I'm going to design up some stuff to cover it with and have neighbor who does stickers print them up for me...
