Left Lane Campers - Be Gone!

An interesting article about people hanging out in the left lane on the highway.

Agreed. That, and a minimum speed limit enforcement. I did not appreciate having to go 30 on the freeway this morning, when conditions warranted at least the speed limit. Fuck, I was even in the FWD Acura.

Amen. This is my first winter in the twin cities and the sheer lack of speed on the roads was abysmal! It took me over 2 hours to travel 36 miles on I-35 I expected people to diving way too fast for the conditions but instead the opposite was true! GAH!!! :madashell:

Last night around 10 PM on 100 through Edina there was a chick in the left lane doing about 25 in her new Acord 4 door. Plows had been through, road about 2/3 cleaned off. Lots of peeps driving 40 or 45.

25 in the left lane.

Re: Left Lane Campers - Be Gone!

It took me an hour to get to class today because people were going 15-20mph on 35w South. The freeways were probably the safest and most cleaned up roads this morning, but I guess since people heard of the 3-6" of snow last night they thought there was still 3-6" of snow that morning on the freeway. Not sure what they saw, but I didnt see any snow on the freeways this morning.
On top of that, I ran into a left lane camper for 2miles right after I got away from the 35w South slowness. (hate it when they drive side by side so all you can do is follow)
We need that law asap.

it's good to know, but i am not suprised at this, especially when most of those who stick on the left lane isnt even going at a fast speed. People just need to pay attention. i've been telling every one of my friends that we are the 1% that actually knows how to drive, the other 99% does not give a fuck, thats why they crash. ;)

I think the reason some people do it is because they somehow think it's their duty to slow down other drivers. Last August I was on Hwy 23 going into St. Cloud and got behind one of these fuckers in about a 1990 Dodge Caravan, once I finally got around them, it was some fat old bastard actually holding a sign that said "slow down" written on a napkin or something while he was pointing down with his index finger, I think I was only doing about 70 in a 65 So I just gave him the finger and went on my way.

Yep, I agree. Im sure we've all ran into someone like that atleast once in our driving lifetime.
They should worry more about themselves and not others. If they care so much, stay off the roads. It'll make them feel safe and make the roads actually safe.

Re: Left Lane Campers - Be Gone!

I was driving to Duluth last summer in the 2g at a very brisk rate of speed (traveling with a random group of crotch rockets that decided to keep pace with me). Just north of Hinckley I came upon a small group of cars (I was slowing down and was only doing about 85 as I approached them).

One of the misguided civilians decided to go vigilante on me and swerved into the left lane just as I was approaching. I had to lock up all 4 and swerve into the shoulder just to keep from rear-ending her. After I got back on the road, she drove side by side with another car at 68 MPH totally intentionally while occasionally turning around to give me dirty looks. After about 15 miles of this I had had enough so I dropped back about 500 feet and dropped down to 3rd. I built up a tremendous speed differential on her as I quickly approached her rear bumper.

At the last instant I swerved left and went around her on the shoulder. The disturbing thing was as I went around her she tried to move over and block both the left lane and the shoulder but I was going faster then she could react. The real justice was after I did that, the 6 bikes that were using me as cop bait flew by on both sides of her! That made my day.

yeah those vigilante bitches like that are what kill people. I seen a guy lock his brakes up on some crotch rockets forcing him up on one wheel because apparently he thought they were too close? They werent doing anything wrong in my book.

Re: Left Lane Campers - Be Gone!

People that step on their brakes when they think someone is following too close are just as bad as laft lane campers in my opinion :angryfire:

Tach, that's why you keep a few 1/4" steel ball bearings in the car. Just let 'em fly out the sunroof when you blow past.

Re: Left Lane Campers - Be Gone!

I have never done a full brake check to anyone, but the partial ones I've done have only been to snobby looking people driving expensive cars because TV told them to.

I used to do pennies, but I don't anymore. Something about not wanting retaliation against the Talon.

I've done a full brake check once, after I finally got around some guy doing 5 under on dry roads who wouldn't let me pass, he flashed his brights at me for tailgating him, so I just let let the brake lights and tire smoke tell him how unhappy with him I was.

Most people on the road these days don't have the balls to brake check people, so they just sit there and tap the pedal so the brake lights flash at you. Unfortunately for them, I don't react to lights, I react to weight shifts and speed changes, so they can tap that pedal all they want, but I'll stay 3 feet off their tail until they get over.

I've only done a full brake check to one person, but that was cuz after a quick stab at the brakes, he continued to ride my bumper with his high beams on. I usually do just a quick stab at the brakes when I feel like someone has been following me too closely for too long, even when there is no other traffic on the road and I'm already speeding.

I have also only done one full brake check, the douche and his friends (i knew him from school) was in front of me throwing shit at my 2g, so i then proceded to pass with an immediate double footed stomp on the brakes.

Suck Ditch!

I hate people who do this because they think they're helping you learn a lesson about speeding. I hope they do that to someone and learn their own lesson about how dangerous that is when someone rear ends them and gives them a whiplash to remember for the rest of their life.

Swerving back and forth quickly in the lane is the best way I've found to get people off your ass. I had some guy about 3 feet off my back bumper on hwy 30 in Iowa (two lane, little traffic) and I was already going 15 over, so I swerved a bunch and he backed way the fuck off. 100ft at the very least.
