This is a rant post.

I get PM's ALL THE TIME from people asking tech questions, or people in the shoutbox that ask about this or that. The answers are here, and there are hundreds of other users here that can help if you simply search, or just post up your question in the appropriate section. I know a lot of people know me, and feel comfortable asking me 'dumb questions' or whatever, but in all seriousness, I already give a ton of my time away keeping this site alive, getting 10 PM's a day asking about exhaust or turbos or whathave you, I just can't take it! I absolutely LOVE TO HELP YOU but I am just about past my neck in sh1t right now and need a little breathing room.

Seriously, post on the board. Less use of the shoutbox as a tech support hotline, unless its urgent.

I brought this up in the shoutbox, but I'm going to reiterate it here for all.

I think it's ridiculous to make a "no tech support in the shoutbox unless it's urgent" rule. I realize some issues that are discussed should be posted, but there's a lot of quick stuff that doesn't need its own thread.

What if I'd created a thread about how I undid two bolts on the downpipe and it wouldn't come off (true story)? I'd have one reply telling me that there's a third on the bracket, two telling me I'm blind, five calling me a dumbass, and twleve after that to say "LOL."

And you know what? That serves no other purpose than to clutter the board and make us look like a bunch of dicks to outsiders.

I do agree though that the PM thing is quite ridiculous.

It just gets redonk when people ask questions in the shoutbox before posting on the board. Yes, a minor question, fine. Ten minor questions? Thread time. The line gets crossed constantly. People ask about us going to OC or w/e in teh shoutbox before looking in the thread, that is just silly!

I'm serioulsy not trying to be a dick, just remind people that there is a whole forum to use, not just a chat window with all the answers.

This is how I see this issue.

Texting= shoutbox
Calling= posting a thread

Its easier to text than to call. But yea I agree, all the tech questions in there get kinda old. I like shootin the shiiit in there, and bs'n about other stuff.

I don't know about that, it's easier to call someone, you press three or four buttons or less, talk to them, press end and it's over, with texting, you type on your phone. I'd say its easier to call than text, but I get what you're saying.

yes but then people have to face reality and they dont have time to think over answers..texting is so impersonal but at the same time some people cant handle being personal.

Scheides, that was my favorite few minutes in the shoutbox ever. "How do I post a thread", and "I did a tbelt delete". good times

Also, I sometimes find it more convenient to ask a tech question to someone who I'm currently talking to on the shoutbox, quicker than a PM.
