I love the front-mount turbo you can see in the bumper instead of an intercooler.

Albert (dv/dt) makes them for Magnus. I have a ton of respect for the guy. He's got a MechEng degree from the Univ of Chicago and his dad owns a machine shop, so he's got a ton of machining experience too.

I think one might be actually a wastegate for launching purposes. Kinda like how Rau's setup is. A wastegate on the charge tube. Maybe not though after looking at the other pictures.

Yup a mechanical fuel pump like the big boys use :)

That billet front cover is.....a work of art.

Re: Insane tube evo

Why is a machinined front cover even needed though? I can see a solution for the balance shaft hole,..... Oh. This is a dry sump setup, they got rid of the oil pump and all the balance shafts....

JET 10-09-2008 12:31 PM

Re: Insane tube evo

No, the oil pump seems to be there. It is at 4 o'clock. I would like to see the engine out of the car but fully assembled!

Trivia question: What university did he start his ME degree at?

No, that's just the mount hole an empty pulley for the timing belt. It looks like most of the use of the billet front plate is for a real secure mount for the dry sump pump.

Huh, it just says it uses a modified Magnus oil pump, not dry sump. If you look in the picture of the engine installed in the car it also has the stock oil pump gear on it. Are they just using that for the timing belt?

Super Bleeder!! 10-10-2008 04:00 AM

Re: Insane tube evo

Jet, what do you think that object is to the right of the front cover in the last pic.

I think it looks like a dry sump pump. Or maybe a vac pump?

JET 10-11-2008 02:37 AM

Re: Insane tube evo

That pump is not actually installed in the Evo. Look at the harmonic balancer, there isn't another belt running in front of it and there also isn't room for it, there is a piece of the frame there. I do agree that is a dry sump pump. Maybe that is for a different car?

Perhaps something like rwd application

Shep has/had the same damper pulley and what looked like the same 3 stage scavenge pump (dry I would assume), if that helps at all. Now I know what I need to look for used when my car runs again.
