"I predict probably prices of 150 to 170 dollars this summer. It (the market) will probably fall a bit towards the end of the year," said the president of OPEC, Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil.

...Sucks.

And they said we could see $200 by 2011-12 and that would be $7 a gallon gas.. I can't wait.

I really only use about 1 or 2 gallons of gas a week, I bike everywhere or ride my motorcycle.
I say bring it on, maybe it will help the obesity problem in America.

No longer 140... now 142. OPEC say $150 - $170 for much of this year so this shouldn't surprise us.

OPEC and all the other Jackass involved in pricing can suck my sweaty nut SACK. $55.00 to fill my 2g, $135.00 to fill my F-350, and $500.00 to fill my Peterbilt and thats $500.00 a DAY. Pretty F---ing sad, I'm just to the point I want to burn OPEC headquaters to the ground with those greedy assfu--s in side.

Being able to drill and add some new refineries would solve this whole problem. And a kick in the nuts to the Goreacle and the rest of the eco-terrorists wouldn't hurt either.

Re: It is now 140 dollars for one of these: What is it?

Eh, we *could* start drilling in Alaska and other places, but that would just band-aid the problem at hand.

Hybrid technology is there, or very close to it, but us Americans need 5000lb vehicles that can do all these awesome things!

At least vehicles that SHOULD sell well are finally starting to sell well.

Or maybe we could legalize hemp, and use ethanol as a main fuel source. It won't fully fix the problem, but hemp yields like 25x what corn does per acre.

Re: It is now 140 dollars for one of these: What is it?

Not to mencion it would take 10-15 years to be able to see any price drop at the pump and by that time it would only be 30 cents or so. which by then it would matter that much. Find an alternate energy source and stick it to the oil companies.

Is hemp different in any way from a pot plant?

Unless you want to smoke yourself to a huge headache, then yes, extremely.

I think this is incorrect, ethanol yield is directly related to how much sugar is in a crop, hemp isn't very sweet.

Yeah, if the liberals in congress would pull their heads out of their asses, this would help quite a bit. It won't take 10-15 years to get into production and it would cause more than a $.30 price drop. Most of the current price increase is from speculation, not actual useage.

Re: It is now 140 dollars for one of these: What is it?

I don't know if you heard about this, but China is using way more than they used to and more of it all the time, it really is caused by more usage and an incapability of current supply to keep up with demand.

I am just going off of articles that I have read. Switchgrass and hemp seem to be two of the best overall crops to make ethanol out of in most of the US.

Re: It is now 140 dollars for one of these: What is it?

Its a very common misconception that supply/demand is driving our fuel prices.

No, it is not legal to grow hemp in the US of A. Hemp = a form of cannabis. Cannabis = the devil. It *DOES* contain THC, even if it is in very low numbers.

If we want to get really technical, some states do allow industrial hemp to be grown, but it is still illegal by federal laws, kind of like the Medical Marijuana thing.
