Spyder Project 2008
Everyone else is making project thread so I thought Id start a new one.
This is my old thread for people that dont know what I have done. http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14001 My cars current condition is BROKEN :( Last fall my car made a loud noise on the dyno and Shane thinks its the flywheel bolts coming loose. In the next few weeks I will be taking it out of the garage and taking the tranny off and replacing the flywheel bolts, assuming thats what I find to be wrong. I purchased a flywheel spacer out of an auto from mitsu, and a set of ARP flywheel bolts. When the trans is out Im going to paint it so it wont look so ugly. That is all Im planning right now just incase something big went wrong. Here is a pic of my car as its been since the fall. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da.../In_Garage.JPG My Sisters garage. 3 car garage, 3rd stall is extra deep and about 2 storys tall. I wish it was mine! I will keep updating as parts come in and the car gets fixed. |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Let's fix it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
You can bring that tranny over and blast it at my house if ya want.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
He needs too, its really the only ugly thing under his hood.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
And the water neck area!
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008

|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Im not doing it this weekend. I have to work and I havent even asked my sister is its cool if I work on it at her house.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008

Re: Spyder Project 2008
Its not that easy...
BUT I got a new FMIC the other day along with some other parts on the way. |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
your thread doesnt have enough pics. isnt your car non-turbo right now? 4g64 FTL.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Yes, I actually took out the original non turbo 2.4 and fabricated in a 420A. Its pretty bad ass
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
I'm transplanting a Geo 3-cylinder into mine. I've heard good things.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Well I got a good deal on the 420A. It already has worn rings and they said they had a custom valve job done, I believe they called it a bent valve job. pretty badass IMO!
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
I've actually been looking into swapping an NSX v6 into my Laser just so I can have Vtec and 2 extra cylinders.
Shouldn't be hard, custom axles, wiring, new mounts, etc. |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
I am taking out my motor and putting in an avenger motor because it has more cylinders and that means more power.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Alright here is my update:
Today I went to work on my car. I got the upper and lower IC pipes, intake, starter and slave cylinder out. I reached in the starter hole and wiggled the flywheel and its loose. So the good news is its probably just the Flywheel!!! There is a big puddle under my car of oil. Looked around under the car and the oil return was leaking. The AN fitting came loose, and also my wastegate dump was loose. I dont know whats going on with my car but everything is loose :(. Anyways, I got a few new parts. Here are some pics... http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1925.jpg SSAC FMIC, Accell wire, FP3575, FP manifold, Greddy cam gears, Clear timing cover, and some Tein Flex Coilovers. http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1927.jpg http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1926.jpg Im going to get the FP manifold coated and cleaned so it will look brand new. Thats all I have for now. |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Alright, Here is the update that people are waiting for...
The flywheel was loose. Why? Well 2 bolts broke and 2 were loose. Why? On the crankshaft there is a piece in the middle for automatic cars, Well noone told me I have never even heard about this til today. So I left it in thinking it was part of the crankshaft. So the flywheel wasnt even seated on the crankshaft. So it acted like a spacer, and that is what snapped the bolts. Notice in the pics below the bolt have a section that looks nice, that was sitting inbetween the cank and the flywheel. the flywheel looked damaged but it was just chunks of the "ring" on the flywheel. Ground it down and now its all good! I got the broken off bolt out! THANK GOD!!! So now all I have to do is get that "ring' out of the crankshaft and its all good. Thank you to Chris and Kyle at MAP for helping me with my problem! I was all pissed until they told me I didnt need that "ring" on the crankshaft! |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
What I saw when I took the clutch off
http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1928.jpg The "Ring" and 2 broken bolts http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1932.jpg My nice flywheel bolts http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1933.jpg Before grinding http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1934.jpg After grinding http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1936.jpg |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
You are lucky! Now get that tranny back in there and drive that thing.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Everything is all back together! Took it for a short ride. I CANT WAIT!
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
I switched out the gas filler neck today.
My 98 one had a billion hoses coming off of it and the tank only had 2 because lack of emissions in 95. Got a 95 filler neck with only 2 hoses. So now I can pump gas without holding the trigger and hoping the gas doesnt come spilling out! http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...FillerNeck.jpg Now I just have to figure out why my front blinker doesnt work! |

Re: Spyder Project 2008
The rear one works, and blinks fast. He ohm checked the wires, everything under the hood is OK. So its inside the car somewhere.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Blinker fixed.
Suspension installed! http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...e/CIMG1937.jpg (Thats tire shine on the tires) MMM Sexy! :) |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
wow car looks great! I wouldn't have been surprised if you said that white stuff is where some kid blew his load when he saw it...
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
It looks like someone jizzed on your tires. Haha
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
What ever what the problem with the blinker? Can we have an update with the car as well?
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
yeah whats the deal with the car?
so whats this giant turbo you have on the shelf? pics? wtf dude. what happened to the o2 housing? |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
The blinker was a 2 part problem. Here is a little story
Last year this was happening so I got another bulb and replaced it and it still didnt work so I assumed it was something I rewired wrong. After about 3 hrs of searching I discovered that the problem was the connection at the bulb socket. and the bulb was bad too. so I must have swapped back bulbs after the new one didnt work either. I bought a new pigtail for the blinker but I have yet to put it on. Update on the car: I have a nice little parts pile sitting here. Whats in it you may ask... FP3575 turbo FP manifold Bare 6bolt head FP3x cams Tial 44mm wastegate Custom O2 housing New FMIC COP Greddy Cam Gears Evo Brembo Calipers Axis ultimate brake pads SS Brake lines Black door panels Black rear panels Different AEM Boost gauge Clear Timing cover As for whats going on this winter. I have no Idea. I hope all of it plus alot more. |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Very nice list of parts there. You should start a new thread with your new build/setup once you start the tear down/install/fabrication.
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
No new parts! Save them for winter, DRIVE the thing! :D
|
Re: Spyder Project 2008
I am saving them for winter. Im gonna drive it til it brakes or the snow comes(whatever comes first) :)

Re: Spyder Project 2008
ha, this thing is gonna be all done up, start to make some good power, then his clutch will slip or the tranny will explode... aka more down time! booo!
Can't wait to ride in it with the 3575 :) |
Re: Spyder Project 2008
Got a new item in the mail today. A new Tial 44mm Wastegate!
Now all I need is to get some flanges and piping and finish my o2 housing/downpipe. |
