Brake Pad Suggestions!!!

I want a better than OEM type pad for good highspeed stopping, aggressive driving, and good street manors. I've been reading on Tuners other people's experiences, and I've narrowed it down to these: Axxis Ultimates, Porterfield R4-S, Hawk HPS or HP Plus (Don't know which would be better, worried the HPS would have too poor cold performance for a DD). Any suggestions?

Why are you driving at high speeds? Isn't that dangerous and illegal?

I use the Axxis Ultimates and I really like them. Not much dust either, so that is nice. The price is good too.

I've got hawk hp plus and I have no complaints. I'm not doing and auto x or street racing, but they work great for my dd.

Porterfields R4-S is my suggestion for a good performance street brake pad.

I really recommend getting something low dust. I went with the EBC Greens which were supposedly low dust. I was always cleaning the wheels trying to keep up with it.

I just put on the Hawk HP Plus pads and I love them so far. I'm also just using them on a DD, but they work great!

I know there's a thread on this from a while back when I was thinking about which pads to get and where.

I used to have some metal masters on my first DSM... those worked pretty well, but I haven't really tried anything else.

I went with kracka's suggestion about a year ago and got the Porterfields. I like them way better my previous ones (cheapos), but I think they dust a bit.

Should have shopped one of the local shops, probably could have saved a few bucks even.

I buy most stuff local that I can! JEEZ I just gave MAP a chunk of change. I didn't see axxis listed on their website, and with 2nd Day Air shipping it will be here probably sooner lol!

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions!!!

I've run Axis Ultimates on my GVR4. Also had R4-S's. I liked the R4-S more, but they dusted red on my black rims. I had warped rotors with the Ultimates and didn't have them that long, not a ton of feed back there.

Ran R4-E's on the Quest. Really good when hot, but they are a track only pad. Made tons of noise and dust when cold.

EBC Yellows on the Stealth, good street manners even though they are a "track only" pad. Defiantly work better hot but work ok cold too. Dusting... Never cleaned my rims to notice. Boat loads better than the auto parts store replacements the car came with.

I figured since this thread is three years old it could use an update. Anything new out there that people find better than the original suggestions? Also, what are you using for rear pads, having trouble finding performance rears.

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions!!!

i've been running axxis ULTs and they work great on the streets, bite hard cold or decently warm (doubt that they do terribly well on the track though)

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions!!!

I ran axxis ultimates on my 1G and loved them on the stock calipers. My 2G had EBC Reds and they sucked, not really sure why and I never took the time to swap parts to figure out why. This is in 2005 and IIRC they've changed their pad material since then.

On both of my evos I've been running Ferrodo DS2500's and I absolutely love them to death. They are not cheap, and they dust quite a bit, but they stop like a mofo.

Do you think you could get away with these on a weekend fun street car? My Hawk HPS's have massive fade after just one hard braking. I also use my brakes to turn as well, so I'm looking for a pad that could sustain 30 minutes of intense heat.

s1ngletracker 07-07-2011 11:33 PM

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions!!!

Well t here are obviously a lot of factors to consider, like how the heck are you braking that hard on the street? LFB, are you drifting around the street? :D I have never felt HT-10s fade, and we have used them for a full 24 hour race at speeds north of 100 mph.

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions!!!

I want to go with the hawk hp plus. But it seems like they dont make rear pads, am I wrong? If not, what pads are comparable for the rears?
