so i get to work today at ultimate electronics, and after about a half an hour into my shift there is a guy looking at radar detectors, the other trainee is trying to field some of his questions and i was listening in because i know some stuff about radar detectors and such. well the guy starts inquireing about this $900 radar detector with custom install (really sweet setup) that has the ability to connect with the Laser Shifer ZX-3 which basically is a laser jammer (extra $300) and i jump in and give some more info. the other trainee leaves and i take over telling him all about the detector and jammer. and the guy i was showing this to hands me a business card that says hes a state trooper, my stomach drops and he says go get my manager immediatly... so i go and get him and he gets into this looong sphile about how hes warning us that having possesion of these radar jamming equipment and selling them is illegal and if it continues they will get a warrent and sieze our divices, it was soooo fucking gay. like us as sales reps and managers decide what we sell. fucking ass.
soo one of my other senior reps comes up to the guy and says "ya know what sir, im gonna ask you to leave and stop bothering out reps, we are gonna try to sell and intall everything that we sell and dont sell" the trooper replies this some bs comment like "well if i see you sell one of these im gonna arrest you" fucking pig,
i dunno, cops are getting to be (IMO have always been) real fucking assholes about everthing. fuck them
sorry just venting, time for bed now, sorry im kinda drunk.
Tom

Matt D. 02-28-2004 03:37 AM

You were just doing your job, but if it is in fact illegal it's rediculous that they'd be making you do such a thing. If you were the one to install an illegal device while at work it wouldn't be your ass in a sling so don't worry about it.

AJ 02-28-2004 04:23 AM

I have a feeling Tom likes Pork. We know you hate every form of law enforcement on the planet Tom, but can you get a grip on some shit already? I am not defending him, as his time could be better spent finding the crack dealers selling to kids and shit, but it's not like he picks his orders either.

Kracka 02-28-2004 09:25 AM

I will say it loud and proud, "FUCK COPS!" I never used to say that, but I have witnessed first-hand far too many power trips as of late. I have many examples that I could go in to, but I am eating a bagel and don't want to spoil the moment.

FattyBoomBatty 02-28-2004 12:18 PM

I love my car cause most cops don't know what it is. so if I'm just pulled over for something simple, i can almost screw with them.

some people are wayyy too scared of cops, like, say my parents: They got totally freaked when i got pulled over at the airport, the cop walks up and asks for my stuff, and was like, "We're doing random screenings, you can go, just keep the speed down."

And last spring i got pulled over for doing 70 on 394 (?????) and this miata or something pulls over in front of me, like he's getting a ticket too! lol, He stayed there for the WHOLE ticket. lol, what a dummy.

The speed limit is 55 on 394, regardless of what the traffic around you is doing.

Jakey 02-28-2004 01:06 PM

Been pulled over 4 times: 1st was for a stop sign violation which I deserved 100%, 2nd was for BS careless driving that I took to court and won with a hands-down unanimous jury decision, 3rd was for driving on a side-street w/o my headlights on at night- no ticket, 4th was for pulling 37 in a 25- checked my license and told me to have a nice evening

.....Overall I have learned that IMHO Deputy Sheriffs are 500% nicer and easier to get along with than urban police officers, like Hughes said, too many cops get on power trips, and I believe that the majority of those cops on power trips are urban cops

Shane@DBPerformance 02-28-2004 01:08 PM

Um, even I know that laser jammers are illegal in this state. It's your company's fault. I find it strange that none of the managers or employees knew that they were illegal either and brought it to someones attention.

JiN 02-28-2004 01:12 PM

It's not illegal. I used to work at Best Buy, and never heard of it being illegal for you to sell it. And I've only heard of them being illegal in the car if theyre an obstruction of view.

Shane@DBPerformance 02-28-2004 01:38 PM

From Minnesota Statute 169.14

" Subd. 12. Radar jammer. For purposes of this
section, "radar jammer" means any instrument, device, or
equipment designed or intended for use with a vehicle or
otherwise to jam or interfere in any manner with a
speed-measuring device operated by a peace officer.

No person shall sell, offer for sale, use, or possess any
radar jammer in this state. "

Under that description, selling a laser jammer would be illegal.

tpunx99GSX 02-28-2004 07:43 PM

thats the law he quoted.
radar jammers are illegal that i knew, but radar detectors are NOT illegal, he even agreed with me saying that it was "fair game".

ACRucrazy 02-28-2004 10:07 PM

Jammers ARE illegal to sell and use in the state of MN. Radar detecters are not.
The Escort ZX3 is a bad ass unit, sweet as hell, and was thinking of getting it my self, now the "SHIFTER" they do sell IS infact illegal for sale in the State of MN and use in the state of MN....

Just the way the cookie crumbles I guess...
I think its funny how Escort calls it the SHIFTER cuz it shifts the signal. LOL

They rule, I love my 8500s

Jana 02-28-2004 11:28 PM

So if they are illegal, how the hell is a large company like Ultimate Electronics buying and selling them???

Alpine TSi 02-29-2004 12:17 AM

I work at Circuit City and we sell the Beltronics Laserpro. I have indeed sold a many of them, especially recently.

On a bad note my assistant manager just got pulled over in Maplewood and the officer said the reason she pulled him over was that she clocked him 7 times with her laser and not once did she get a reading back on it(illegal). They then ticketed him for having it(legal), ticketed him for basic speeding(illegal), and impounded his vehicle until the court date(illegal). So out of four things the cop did, three were legal. Needless to say he already has a lawsuit started and they still have his car.

The worst part about it is when he asked if he could use his only vehicle for transportation from his home(Maplewood) to his work(Bloomington) which no bus route nor taxi driver would go they said that they had to keep it as "evidence" so the judge on an unspecified date in the future could look at it and the jammer so he could understand its operation and obstruction of justice. Then he offered to remove the unit and they said that wasn't allowed. The bastards didn't even offer him a ride home at 2 in morning.

Fucking bastards...

tpunx99GSX 02-29-2004 06:35 PM

yeah the cop must have been talking about you then, he said something about a circuit city employee haveing been busted and got his car taken. but what i dont get and hate them for doing this is that WHY go into the store and harass people doing there job. Talk to fucking corperate, us as employees have no control over what we carry, we do our job and sell anything we can because that is why we have our jobs.

Kracka 02-29-2004 06:39 PM

Next time it happens, scream "Don't touch me there!" and smack the fuck across the face with the jammer.

NoNameSteaks 02-29-2004 07:11 PM

see I have a problem with speeding on Plymouth Rd. It is just to easy and now cops seem to be everywhere around there. I have not yet been pulled over but I have had a cop on my ass.

I was doing 45 in a 35 and he was on my ass I am guessing the lady in the passenger seat was checking my plates, I cant believe he was close enough to me that I could tell you the women had short brownish blondeish hair.

Then I came to a stop sign went down to like 4mph and then turn left. MAN I WAS STUPID! but he stoped at the sign and stayed there for a little bit and that is all I know. He didn't come after me so I am happy. :bounce:

Jacek 02-29-2004 07:44 PM

would be nice of you could just say its for offroad use only..

how do u know this was like a while ago

like a few months I wasw near Oakland Rd. by Best Buy

Goat Blower 03-01-2004 01:24 PM

It's illegal, so what's the problem? It is the fault of Ultimate corporate for selling it in this state, so you really shouldn't be harassed, but it is illegal so get over it.

The reason cops can be pricks is because they have to deal with pricks. Stupid little kids that break the law then get mad at the cops for giving them a ticket. Rules are there for your protection, but when you're 18, you're probably not going to realize that yet. They have a job to do just like everyone else, treat them with respect, and they'll usually return the favor.

Hard to treat someone with respect when you give it and they immediately give you shit.

I had a lady take a hammer to my GS-T. She then broke my upstairs window after I locked her out. cops came as my neighbors called the police on her cause they thought she was breaking in or something was wrong.

The cop tells me that there is nothing he can do about the car or the window (even after she admits it to him) But says I have to let her in the house to get her stuff even though she'd moved out.

Cops regardless will never get MY RESPECT. IN every situation that I've ever needed them. They've told be to basically FUCK OFF.

I'd have respect if they actually where to fallow "to protect and to serve". My personal opinion of "Most" cops are that they were the kids that got picked on in School and are now getting there revenge on everyone. At least that seems like the additude.

I'll admit there are "some" nice ones. But they are way to far and few to off set the bad ones. Hell why do you think you read about all the cops of late getting into trouble.

In the last year:

didn't a maple grove cop get busted for getting a credit card under some Football players name and spending his money?

-wasn't it a female police officer that killed a person this year will driving someone to a hockey game.

-what about the 3 that were just put on suspension for killing a fellow officer or something (ie: they shot him)

-There was also a write up that I read not to long ago where a local sherifee deputy left a threatening message stating he's going to break this guys nose/legs.
Which was in response to this guy calling in that his wife (who owned a company) was illegally disposing of cemicals or something?

Now I obviously don't read the newspapers so my facts might not be 100% straight but that's basically the jist of the things I've skimmed over, etc.

I guess growing up in N.Y. I just have a hatred for police. (personally now adays I think the NY police are actually nice then the MN cops)

I personally hate BS tickets as well. Wasn't it that someone got a ticket for oversized wing on an EVO even though it was stock? Reason I hate things like this are because you have to spend the time fighting them. And you never get paid for the time you have to take off work to get it cleared.

I know I've gotten 3 tickets that I got dismissed that I shouldn't have ever gotten in the first place. But still had to fight. just like that stock wing etc. (long time ago so I can't remember specifics in details but)

And what ever happened to fix it tickets? Shit half those tickets cost double the price of what it cost to fix the problem. Like a burnt out head light. Well shit you have 2 Fog lights as well as another head light so how are you supposed to know unless each time before you drive you go out and check your car over. Would be nice if they would let you know.

I got pulled over in my parents boat for not having the 360 degree light on. Well it was on. But I had the camper up so you can't see the light. Well through hitting waves it lost it's connection. When I got pulled over he informed me that my red/green lights were working but the back one wasn't he then wrote me a ticket for $110 said I had to get off the water. And while he was writing the ticket I went back and pushed it back in place and the light came on. He still wrote me the ticket and said sorry I already started writing it out. WTF.

Kracka 03-01-2004 03:22 PM

I agree with Steve's post only to a certain extent. When pulled over I am always nice, but that only seems to matter some of the time. I don't feel like getting into it. I respect what they do, just not them.

A//// Guy 03-01-2004 03:29 PM

So far since I have started driving (16) until now (19) I have never been pulled over or have even had any experiences with a cop.

I dont really like how most act just because they are cops though. I disagree how they can do whatever they want... speed and do other illegal shit that no one else can get away with.

Everyone that has gotten pulled over for any reason has to be doing something suspicous or maybe Im just really lucky.

Loud exhaust, low car.

JiN 03-01-2004 03:52 PM

Ive been pulled over for jack shit before. Quite a few times actually where the fucker had no reason to pull me over, but then had to find one...or to just be a dickhead. So it aint always that "its suspicious" and shit.

A//// Guy 03-01-2004 03:56 PM

Yea but suspicous could mean stickers and an import with exhaust and stuff... My exhaust is louder than most other cars Ive driven with and that still didnt seem to matter... although I do put it in nuetral when I see a cop nearby.

I see a difference in wheels/ 2G vs 1G ...etc

Kracka 03-01-2004 03:58 PM

Yup, got me some bling-bling wheels....or wait, they are stock from a 2G :)

2003eclipse 03-01-2004 06:45 PM

The Judicial system works both ways 95 percent of the time for the good of things. cops do way way more then just traffic stops and so on. How many of you take shit from your boss and then are pissed off the entire rest of the day??? how often does that happen? well cops get it from civilians all day long.

My cousin is a cop and has busted 15 meth labs since october in a town that has a population of about 2000 Somerset Wisconsin. Chased one meth cooker from minneapolis one night caught him in some guys house with a weapon the guy was in possesion of about 6 stolen guns and had about 4 felonies against him a few for bringing much pain and suffering on others such as stabbing and what not. that guy was in someones house with a gun. whose to say what the guy was going to do. Personally Traffic stops are just a routine thing and the least of a cops duties 99 percent of the time. Think about it!

NoNameSteaks 03-02-2004 11:21 AM

yeah, but if I am speeding I don't want to see them.lol

I know I am in the wrong but still I don't feel like seeing them, I understand this is what they do and I don't hate them for it I just hate the situation when a cop is on my ASS like riding me. I felt I was in a NASCAR race.

SlowWhite 03-02-2004 11:38 AM

Just remembered 2 incidents the first 4 months I'd been living here.

My car at the time was a 89 Olds cutlass touring sedan (my fathers) completely stock except 16K stereo. With NY Plates

it was summer time and my brother and I had just moved here (my parents moved a year before us)

And we were working for RGIS inventory specialists. Comeing home from work at 2am. on 77 south coming up on Cliff.

We got pulled over. And I politely asked why am I being pulled over. He replied Liscense and registration. I gave him my license, etc. he ran the license came back and said the reason I pulled you over was for the Graduation tasle you have hangin in on your rear view. Now I didn't get a ticket but 2am tastle was dark Green, only about 6"s long, in a car with stock tint doing 60mph passing a cop that's sitting on the side of the road. with 2 people in the front seat of the car blocking the front windows. Right (NY Plates got me pulled over)

2nd - Apple Valley same car a month later this time I have a friend up from Boston College. I get pulled over at arond 3pm. Again I ask why am I being pulled over. No response other then Please exit the vehicle. I look at my friend like WTF?

He tells us to go site on the curb. So we do and he then proceeds to got through the entire car. When he's done he's like Nice stereo. hands me my license and says have a nice day and leaves. (again NY Plates all the way I'm guessing)

I don't know it I would totally have a different view point if when I actually needed the law to be on my side they actually would do something about it.

But all I've ever been told was that I'm basically S.OL. or this isn't the movies we don't do that. bla, bla, bla.

I don't know personally I think they are just lazy. they'd rather get paid (via: tickets) vs spending money helping people. it's all political IMO.

-Brian

A//// Guy 03-02-2004 12:03 PM

Can they search your car without permission? I dont they can do that, but Im not sure.

Kracka 03-02-2004 12:29 PM

Whether they can or not, they did to me.

JiN 03-02-2004 12:35 PM

They can ask. If you tell them no, then they have to get a warrant. So they can just hold you there till they get approval. So if you'd like things to work a little smoother, just say yes. Besides, if youve got nothing to hide who cares whether they search.

I think thats bullshit. Just cuz I have stickers, and chrome rims dont mean Im doing something wrong, and should be pulled over. Fuck that shit. When you see me speeding, or racing, or god knows what, that is ACTUALLY ILLEGAL, pull me over. I'll have dick to say then.

SlowWhite 03-02-2004 12:54 PM

I didn't have a say in it. He just told us to get out of the car.

And that car was completely stock looking family sedan, the only thing would be plates and the fact that I wear a baseball cap all the time.

-Brian

SlowWhite 03-02-2004 12:58 PM

Thinking of Stereo typing.

I was at elite one day when a guy with a turbo'd SI got done dynoing and went to the holiday station on the otherside of the building. (he drove there)

on his way back a police car fallowed him in. Blocked him in and then proceded to have the driver vacate the car, then searched it, making him pop the hood, and the trunk. While his partner frisked the driver.

I got some of it on video tape. when I was noticed pointing the camera at the police of the ongoing. the lady searching the guy said something to the other officer and they stopped what they were doing and left. After talkinging with the owner of the car he said they gave the reason of "you look suspisious" as justification of the search.

-brian

NoNameSteaks 03-02-2004 01:49 PM

they can look in ur car but may not search it like if the window is open they can look around but may not SEARCH IT. like check around the car that is legal but actually start searching is not legal. watch a cop next time u are pulled over they do a quick check in ur car to see if they cfan get a reason to search

if you are not pulled over fr speeding or anything illegal ask him/her find anything intersting?

LOL that would be funny as hell

A//// Guy 03-02-2004 02:26 PM

Do everytime they scan the plates do previous stops get put on their computer so they know what went on with each stop? Or just the "Illegal" situations get put on there?

Becuase then maybe they scan plates look at your whole record and if youve been pulled over alot they would keep on doing it? I dunno.
