Lookey what I got in the mail this morning, just in time for an evo modfest...

I ended up working from home a bit this morning and was graced with a knock from the FedEx man, with a package from Speed Element!

BLOX front motor mount! These things look AWESOME, looks like CNC'd aluminum and a nice beefy poly mount with a solid piece of metal for the bolt to slide through.

And like the title said, just in time for an Evo Modfest at my place this weekend! We're installing these on my car and Kracka's IX tomorrow night, after he arrives back from an 9-hour round-trip to pick up an IX with someone else (Zac, think he just registered here as 'hellomynameis'). Also hoping for a few other Evo guys to stop by for some NLTS and basic street-tuning action! Stay tuned for updates!

I'm excited to get mine installed!

Tomorrow I'm heading to WI with Zac, an old college/DSM buddy of mine, so he can get a silver IX GSR and we're going to tear into it right away when we get it home. I'll actually probably start the ECU reflashes/mods while we're still in WI :)

That is one beefy motor mount!

Is that mount supposed to help with the rear end clunk under hard shifting?

Kracka 01-24-2008 04:24 PM

Re: Lookey what I got in the mail this morning, just in time for an evo modfest...

Probably not, its just to keep engine movement down which leads to more power to the ground and smoother shifts since the tranny isn't flopping around.

Is it wrong that I still prefer solid mounts by means of injection? :)

THose do look nice though!

It also means hang onto your fillings at idle.

No, it is meant to keep the engine/transmission from flexing back and forth, improving shifting. The rearend thump you hear is your rear diff bouncing around. Buschur makes replacement bushings to help with this; they are cheap but they are a PITA to install. BR also makes a replacement rear 'mustache bar' (leave the BR jokes out of this one please ;) ) that includes smaller, stiffer bushings. Apparently this also helps put power down too, as most people with it say that the power put down to the ground feels more solid, more precise. Also saves 10 pounds or so.

Well that's the idea with doing *just* the front mount. I had poly mounts on my 2G and with the balance shaft gone and stock cams the car did rattle quite a lot at idle. Doing just the front one I'm hoping to keep the motor from flexing as much when shifting and whatnot, and yet keep my sanity at idle. Then again, I do have 280's in the car so idle is not exactly smooth anyways :D I'm really hoping for a happy medium here. If it is too harsh, it will come back out.

I had full poly mounts all around on my 1G...never again.

my talon was not that bad at idle (1k) with all poly mounts and hks 272s

Yea, but you are a stone-cold bad-ass, while we are merely little mossy fluffers, really only along for the ride but kinda want in on the action...

Nice :) I can come over and help out as well if you want. Then after we get done with that, we could do another boost leak test on mine?

haha! You don't need a back yard, so you could just build it right up to the back of your house!

Jesus, the rear end thumps stock? that's aweful. the quest diff thumps when the bushings break and separate from the metal. How do you get it to clunk? hard shifting or hard launches or what?

Sounds like you had your hands full though!

Re: Lookey what I got in the mail this morning, just in time for an evo modfest...

Ok, just woke up, what a party! I had in total about half of a beer because I had wrenches in both hands most of the night. Let's get a run-down of what we accomplished. Not a ton, but for a Friday night and bunch of desk jockeys, not bad :)

Hughes and Zac (hellomynameis, just registered) drove to BFE wisconson yesterday to pick up Zac's new Silver Evo IX GSR. Very sexy car, I just didn't manage to grab any pics of it. It got its clutch restrictor's cherry popped by craig, who somehow managed to pull the whole slave cyl off the car before anyone could say, 'no you don't need to do that!' then promptly left. :P Turbo timer install, MBC, and EGT probe tap.

My car, I wasted SO much time on installing that blox mount, I stripped the rear-most crossmember bolt and drove all over hell to find a 12x1.25 tap. We found one at fleet farm in a $56 set, 5 stops later. Car feels awesome and amazingly sounds different with this weird, great, cheap mod. Review to follow.

Stryderlis (evomn) came and not only drove Mark and I all over the place to find that tap, but once we got my car buttoned up and had that half-beer, we took his car apart for the insane project of: installing a MBC! Simple enough, but his car is mostly stock w/ Exhaust, VII tails, and a nice front lip. Had to pull off part of the undertray (I HATE this thing), the whole stock air box assembly, UICP, and intake pipe. Once done, we managed a nice clean install. I wish I had a pic of it completed, the MBC is stealthy and just sticks out right below/beside the stock intake snorkel.

http://www.scheides.com/albums/evo8/IMG_0141.sized.jpg

Tee (stryderlis) then had this crazed, happy smile on his face for the next hour as we set the MBC at ~22psi peak and did a little street tuning. The car picked up great power and great responsiveness. Tee has had the car for 41k miles and 2.5 years, has kids that ride in the back, etc. so while a MBC sounds like a simple mod, yes it is but yes it's 100% worth it, look at this guy!

http://www.scheides.com/albums/evo8/IMG_0143.sized.jpg

Rosey (rose0529) also showed up with his virgin black IX. He had just picked up an AMS catback, but he also now has a testpipe, and downpipe on order, so rather than take the car apart twice in a week, we're just going to wait until he gets the other stuff and we'll do boost gauge and tweak his factory BCS for a little more boost while we're at it. Rosey, you were a good sport last night, good to have you around!

Mean face:
http://www.scheides.com/albums/evo8/IMG_0142.sized.jpg

Hughes, tapped his exhaust mani for EGT, his $7,200 defi gauge now works, it was just the EGT probe all along, even though it was tested to work fine before he bought the car....yeash! Oh, and the BLOX mount that took me forever to install? Took this a-hole 5 minutes. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it actually took 10, but I wasn't there, and Mark(TKR) was helping, so it could be true :)

Kevin, I am 100% in crack, ignore me. For some reason I thought we talked about you stopping by to do a boost leak test? Well I'm here all weekend if you still want to come!

I also came to the firm realization yesterday that I need to clean up my garage and get rid of some of the plethora of spare evo parts I have sitting around:

http://www.scheides.com/albums/evo8/IMG_0149.sized.jpg

You hang onto this and that thinking you'll totally use it later, but now it's like yeow! Need to sell some stuff! Anyways, we had a FREAKING BLAST last night, hope we can do another one soon! Thanks to all that helped!

Re: Lookey what I got in the mail this morning, just in time for an evo modfest...

I didn't tell you to take it off! LOL Eitherway, we got it all put back together and everything worked perfectly after bleeding the clutch a few times :)

Thanks for everyone's help as always, especially thanks for hosting Scheides!

Schiedes, we did talk about doing the boost leak test on my car, but I just didn't realise you had all this going on Friday night, otherwise I would have stopped by.
