4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/15/e...genesis-coupe/

$19k for a 2.0 turbo RWD sports car, sounds like a good combo to me! Hopefully a lot of the aftermarket parts for the 4b11t will be cross-compatible with these other platforms!

Where in the article does it say anything about the 4B11T?

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Given that Hyundai sources a lot of their drivetrain parts from Mitsu, it's probably a safe assumption.

Looks pretty sweet. Given Hyundai's quality improvements over the last few years, I'm actually excited about this :)

sorry, I know it doesn't specifically mention the 4b11t in that article, it other sources are saying that's the case. Let me see if I can find some more specific info...

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Yes, but the sedan is a bit bigger than the coupe, like this one. I have been hearing 4b11t also for quite a while, plus the V6. With the commute I will have to work, I may get one of these. I have been looking for a new platform to get in on and really support, this may be it. It reminds me of the 1g's, cheap, easy to mod and fun.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Looks like a really nice little car. Great style and color scheme. Any word why they would do a RWD? Is there a direct competitor they are targeting? Or is it a way to get a more sleek smaller front end without having to add a power bump? haha

So far I am really liking it. The newer Hyundai's really are nice. The last company I worked for I purchased an Accent for a delivery car and it blew the Focus's away for reliability and was a lot nicer to drive. Switched the fleet over to them. How Focus stuck around is beyond me. Constant stupid problems and needed constant rotations to keep the tires from wearing odd. Hope this one delivers a easy to mod platform.

They are going against the Mustang. I think they are going to sell like hot cakes for $20k! Hopefully the weight stays down decent.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Damn; I love the thought of a Hyundai beating up on a Mustang! TCstang guys should too! lol. If the weight stays down it should be great.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

I like it. I'd buy one as a daily driver.

And then I'd mod it to the point that it's a pain in the ass and breaks all the time.

And then I'd be pissed.

And then I'd have to buy a daily driver..

So, the new hyundai should be the best/fastest delivery car ever?

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

haha, I was just adding a comment on the quality of Hyundai as I drove a few different models lately. Now if it was AWD then it Would be the best/fastest delivery car ever. Obviously.

I kinda like the RWD platform. Even though AWD is fun, I still think RWD is more fun :)

I love that the turbo-4 is going into the base model. It means they'll be plentiful, cheap and should build some real aftermarket support.

Very nice. I am impressed. I would definitely consider owning one of these.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Hmm, weight doesn't look real low. The Sedan is 3,800 lbs with a V8 and this one is smaller and they were concentrating on weight, so I would guess around 3,400 lbs.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

They sould be a solid little coupe. The Genisis sedan should be on our lots very soon (V6 model). They have been trying to shoehorn the 8cyl in the coupe but it looks like a no-go.

Hopefully they'll have one on hand when I head back to the Illinois training facility.

P.S. the sedan is one smooth motherfucker, lets just hope they dont have the same chain tensioner problems that the 3.3 and some 3.8 in the FWD platform have.

It looks like Korea is getting the V8 in the sedan, aren't they? It just got released over there. The coupe is what I am really interested in though. I could jump on the aftermarket parts for that :D

The V8 will make it into the sedan in the US also. The engineers haven't been able to squeeze it into the coupe but if Chevy can fit a 5.3L into a newer Monte Carlo I'm pretty sure they will get it done. Just might take a little massaging of the block design.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

The Hyundai guys will not say that there isn't going to be a supercharged V6 in it, so that may be in the future. That would be a ton of fun.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

3.8L+MIVEC+turbo's = less traction than a Supra!

Sure the 2.0 turbo will be easier to mod, up to the point of what the stock engine can handle (how are the 4B11T's doing in the X's?) after that the 3.8 MIGHT be a decent way to go.

Wow, at that price point it will sell like crazy.

It saddens me to think of how many douchebag kids im going to see bov-ing around town in these otherwise cool cars. Much like the srt4 phenomenon

Yeah, those cost $19.9k until the dealers realize what a hot item they have and jack the price up to $25k for a base model.

I saw a couple at SEMA.. I like it. It's a lot of car for the $. They are RWD correct? If so, 5 or 6spd/RWD/2.0 turbo/low price point = great recipe.

Ryan Gates/BlackTrack is making like 470whp (dynojet) or so on his, and he tracks the damn thing. Stock all the way through, cams and all. He was at OC a few weeks ago, I got a ride :)

yup, RWD and I believe a 6-speed. These will sell like hotcakes, and the insurance will be through the roof when people start playing with RWD on the road :)

Sound a lot like the new AE86 that Toyota is rumored to have with a subaru turbo platform, somewhat likely to be the EJ20T and also rumored to cost well under $20k.
