Well I just received orders to change commands. I will be spending the last year of my marine corps life in Okinawa, Japan. I leave between June 1 and July 1. I'm pretty excited about it, I can't wait to get out of crapy ass Yuma. I also decided that as long as i can find work, i will be moving back to the twin cities. I might also reenlist in the Marines, but ONLY if they give me orders to MN, otherwise I'm getting the heck out. Anyway, just thought I'd share, later all!!!

Pick up a GVR4 while your over there and then part it out befor you leave! Have fun man.

Enes 02-21-2004 07:59 PM

Actually if i remember right, he can pick up a car there and buy it with his own money, military SHOULD transfer it here to USA since it is his car and they are making him move! ... Check into it! you might be able to pick up a skyline r34 there and bring it back here for free :) how nice would that be!?

Not to stray off subject here, but aren't Trust products manufactured in Japan? I know that AlpineTsi from Tuners has a bunch of Trust products on his sweet white 1G and I think he brought them over from Japan.

1ViciousGSX 02-21-2004 08:46 PM

Bring back a SKYLINE :3gears:

Halon 02-21-2004 09:08 PM

i am almost certain the military will not transport a car back for me. They will transport other personal belongings, but not a damn car. I wish, or id be sportin a r32 or r33 whe ni got back. Plus i'd have to do whatever is required when you import a car to it, like new windows and all the other safety BS. Also, what is TRUST? i have not a clue about that, but id like to know. they just performance stuff or what? I'll go to Top Secret and have them build me somthin!! But when I'm over there, if there's anything i can get for cheap and you guys want it, then ill let you know and maybe i can send people some mad tyte JDM shizzit. Well I'm off to go do some drunken bowling and hit on every ugly girl in the bowlin alley. later all!

1ViciousGSX 02-21-2004 09:11 PM

My understanding is that they will ship the vehicle to where ever you are stationed, but I don't know about the safety and emissions upgrade.

OHHHH I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Halon 02-21-2004 09:20 PM

Well I'm about 95% sure the marines will not bring my car back. maybe if i was stationed there for like 3 years, but not the 1 year tour like i will have. http://mikami.image.pbase.com/u35/ad...5.Dscn0784.jpg OHH YA, AGED 15 YEARS, THE WAY I LIKE EM!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO

JET 02-21-2004 09:24 PM

They should bring your car back, I know the Army does. I am pretty sure that goes for all the services if it is 1 year or longer.

Shane@DBPerformance 02-21-2004 09:43 PM

TRUST is Greddy.

Jana 02-21-2004 09:43 PM

Wow, have fun!! :D

Halon 02-22-2004 03:20 AM

TRUST is Greddy eh? well i've never really been a big fan of greddy products, except maybe the turbo timer. plus i am trying to fab up most of the stuff i can right now by myself. I'm making my own FMIC kit right now. Just need to find me a core for cheap. I'm considering fabbing my own exhaust, but i can get one for dirt cheap from RnR so ill pollt get one from him. anyway, im drunk as shit, i really need to go. bye bye

Halon 02-22-2004 03:21 AM

JDM 02-22-2004 03:44 AM

Why? I don't get it. Trust/Greddy makes good stuff for certain cars, just not DSMs.

niterydr 02-22-2004 05:23 PM

Let us know when you are in japan, maybe we'll start a forum just for you for all the requests we will have. I have a few 'needs' myself off some gto's.
Have fun, my cousin was in the marines and stationed at that base. I guess it rocks, locals are cool, and he got to drive many 3rd gen rx7's and a supra rz. Got to ride in a skyline, and a bunch of other cool shit.

Halon 02-22-2004 05:49 PM

ya im really excited about going there. It might take a little while after I'm there to figure out where to find all the good car stuff. But once i do, ill let you guys know what i find and if i find some good stuff ill let you guys know

Super Bleeder!! 02-23-2004 12:11 AM

our supras are faster than theirs stock for stock, finally we win at something!!

IndiEP 02-23-2004 11:00 PM

One word. "Jap-Brandon"...Think about it.

1991-talon-fan 02-23-2004 11:11 PM

My brother is in South Korea right now but in 8 months he is going to be stationed in Japan. He told me to save my money but i don't know if I can wait. I want to but a dsm or should i try and give him seven thousand dollars for a car. Maybe a skyline which would be hella cool.

Halon 02-23-2004 11:22 PM

HAHAHA, Austin are you talking about that dude from ebay who always sold stuff from japan for pretty cheap, and i think his ebay name was JAP ANDY?

jimwross 02-23-2004 11:59 PM

< i already am one (topic) haha.

Anyway, don't get to excited not everything is "cheap" there. :-)

IndiEP 02-24-2004 11:04 PM

Yeah thats exactly who I'm talking about. Pretty much all he sells are bovs and small stuff that go for under 100 but shipping is around 25.00. The exchange rate isn't that outstanding either, USA $1.00 = 108.131 Yen

CopperGSX 03-08-2004 04:53 PM

Lucky man. I was stationed in NAF Atsugi Japan in the late 90's. Don't waste any time on anything other than a Skyline or Silvia. They rock! I owned a '84 R30 Skyline GT. Inline 6, 5 speed, Turbo and RWD. It was a blast! Watch out for Okinawa. It's a nice place but there have been many marines that have raped and or killed Japanese women. So the feeling towards Foreigners (Gai-jin's) is not that good. I am sure it all depends on who you surround yourself with. Most of my friends were/are Japanese. They are great people and will be your friends for life if you treat them like you want to be treated. My wife is Japanese too. Things are not necessarily cheaper in Japan. But you can get good deals. Keep you ear to the ground for any junkyards. That is were the JAP ANDY gets his parts. When I was there the rate was 141yen = 1.00 buck. Anyway, best of luck and post some pics of your Skyline or what-ever when you get there.

Thanks for serving. I appreciate it.

Howie

Halon 03-08-2004 05:47 PM

ya im in the marines, so i know about all those issues. But I'm still gunna make the best of it. I've been asking a lot of people about the policy on bringing back cars and no one knows. I guess I'll just find out when i get there.

blown_turbo_tsi 03-09-2004 11:55 AM

good luck with it..... i say you buy a car and save up to ship it back just in case.... i've heard of people bringing back skylines and such from japan so it can be done.... good luck and hope you get one! :3gears:
