Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

I know everyone's still pissed about the proving grounds. But I cant afford to drive to Iowa right now. Im planning on going to the fun day on the 22nd. We should get a good group together for this event.

My birthday is the day before. If I get this revving issue sorted out with my car, i'd love to go.

I might, same deal with not having the $$ for Iowa, but I have to tighten the FUCKING GOD DAMN flywheel bolts again!! I am so sick of pulling trannies in the damn thing every 150 miles.

Re: Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

Sweet!! If Swifty Jet and I all show up and run the times our cars are capable of mabey rock falls will see what DSM are really about.

Jet are you using the shorter 7bolt or Supra/ARP flywheel bolts bolts? I know the stock DSM's are to long fot the twin disks. Ive heard its a good idea to run the auto flywheel spacer with the twindisks too

Where have you seen anything about that? On NABR they are recommending using the auto spacer and LONGER auto bolts, but the head has to be shaved down. That is probably what I am going to be trying this time.

Anyone work at a machine shop with a surface grinder or kinow of someone that does? I could do it myself, but I don't have access to one.

I don't remember what I did with mine, but I haven't had any problems, at least not with the clutch or flywheel bolts. Which flywheel do you have?

Shane@DBPerformance 09-06-2007 05:48 PM

Re: Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

I used an ARP head bolt washer under the head of each of my flywheel bolts with my twin disc. It didn't come lose even after reving to 11,800, but I never put too many miles on the car, just some trips to Midway and 700whp fun around Elite and on 94.

Aluminum and steel do not weld together well. We had to shave some bolt heads down on a SRT I just used the lathe. I would just take a thin metal ring that would sit just inside or outside of the bolt head and weld all 6 bolts to it.

Re: Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

Actually the twin disks aren't aluminum flywheels. I have the Devo one Steve, so it should be a PTT flywheel. I was thinking the same thing John, if they loosen up one more time I will tack weld the bolts to the spacer from the auto, then I can grind the tacks off and not damage the flywheel itself.

you'll need a Helmet (snel 2000 or better) they'll check your car. Usually just check that the battery is secured and thet you have a coolent overflow.

If I get tires before then I'll tag along but no racing, haven't been to a track once this year.

Welcome to the club! It isn't looking good for me either. I think the car's aborted until next year, once the SMIM, fuel system etc goes in.

Dude, you were my tire hookup though, RAHHH!!! This sounds kinda fun though. I'd need to find a helmet if I went. Is there still some sorta rule about not being allowed to have any sort of electronics (IE laptop) while you run, making it impossible to log?

JET 09-07-2007 09:12 PM

Re: Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

I have never had an issue with having the laptop in the passenger's seat.

Have you gone this year though? I thought it was something new they were bringing up this year.

Re: Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

I've seen a few pics of cars having a shelf under the pass seat with a slide bar or something that locks in the laptop. Works pretty slick and seems like it would be easy enough to make.

Re: Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

you can use my helmet, my two brothers still work there, and chris is paid hourly which is better than 8.50/hr with a minimum 55 hours a week.

computer stuff they don't care unless its a special race, just turn on the log before you go thru the water box and you will be fine.

Halon 09-08-2007 02:34 AM

Re: Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

Shit, no water box for me. You working tomorrow? I'll finish powdering your shit tomorrow. And if you come get it, bring your helmet so I can try it on for fit.

I'm about 90% mine is, I'll have to look at the pictures.

Was your crank turned by chance?

JET 09-08-2007 06:08 PM

Re: Rock Falls Sat. Sept 22

Nope, stock crank. I don't there is a surface plate bolted on like a fidanza, is there? I am almost positive it is chromoly. Here is a pic and I don't see anything bolted on.

Jet do you have the Alignment pin in the end of the crank? most 2.4 cranks came out of auto car without the alignment pin. Just another thought.
